Tiger Woods is a great athlete, an excellent role model and a refreshing
change from the criminals and thugs from professional athletics that
usually make headlines for all the wrong reasons. No one knows what
happened for sure but it looks like he got in an argument with his wife,
stormed out of the house and ran his car in to a fire hydrant. The police
have already said there was no drugs or alcohol involved, the fire hydrant
was on Tiger's property and he was the only one injured. And those were
only very minor injuries and he was treated and released. With all the
real problems, suffering and tragedies happening in this country every
day, I can't believe what an obsession this story has become for the
media, and for so many on this newsgroup. Enough already - give the man a
break.

For one thing, the police didn't say that no alcohol or drug consumption
was involved. They didn't even check it out, even though the Police
stated that Tiger Woods appeared to be "out of it."

The hydrant is public property, not Tiger Woods personal property. And
the tree is public property. This is property damage.

He flattened the hydrant and drove onto a neighbors lawn and hit the
tree.

This is all property damage.

For an ordinary citizen, the police would be all over that person
testing for alcohol, etc.

Domestic violence is an issue. His wife used a wedge on the SUV; Tiger
Woods had cuts on his face.

All at around 2am with a 911 call, where the caller stated that Tiger
Woods was lying still and may not be breathing, (this is from the actual
911 call recording replayed in the media).

Any high profile figure who makes gigantic money off the public from
endorsements due to his outstanding citizen image is highly noticeable
in a situation like this. Why should Tiger Woods get special treatment
in this regard. "Cheating on his wife" as the possible motivation of the
wife's golf club attack on the SUV is somthing that can hardly be
exepcted to be ignored by the media and paying fans.

What if this was Jack Nicklaus? (which Jack had never done anything of
the kind thoughout his career as gentleman and true role model of
behavior) Do you think the media and general public attention would be
all over this story if it was a white Christian-German Jack Nicklaus?

However, this incident doesn't particularly indicate that Tiger Woods
isn't an otherwise responsibe and exemplary citizen. It may very well
come under: "shit happens". The fooling around may be reckless with
regard to his marriage and "optional"behavior, but from all
appearances he did try to keep it somewhat discreet , (if the mistress
thing is true in the first place).

But, no, Tiger Woods hasn't been treated unfairly against a backdrop of
the attention that's usually given to the personal lives of high profile
celebrities in general.
