Personally I think their assumptions are wrong, and punters won't just
double their weekly lotto spending.

I know they'll lose custom - myself, for one.

I think the price is going up because the Ontario Teachers Pension
Plan(OTTP) needs more money. Its all about the shareholders.

They are just following what happened in Canada, where the price went
from $1 to $2. But wait, this September Canadian 649 is going up to $3 a
play ! So, don't be surprised to see the UK649 go to 3 in the next 5 years.

I wouldn't be surprised if OTTP is itching to buy Ontario Lottery and
Gaming (OLG).

I don't play Can649 specifically because of the price increase from $1 to $2

Quite a few people already stopped playing the main lotto and this was very obvious with the reduction of Jackpot prizes since they announced the planned increase.

They were probably banking on people to buy the same number of tickets but this is not going to be the case as most people ( I assume) only play 1 ticket regularly and just buy the rest just in case.

Our lottery syndicate http://www.uk-lotterysyndicate.com , will also not double up the contribution amount just to keep up with them.

To look at it in a practical perspective, only 50 pence per £1 paid to them will be allocated to prizes whether we pay £2 or £1 a ticket.

Want to know the real reason?

They, Camelot, Global Camelot that is to be, is planning aWORLD lottery
And this increase in 6/49 is first step toward a 50 or so country world
Lottery.

Something like a Canadian MAximiiion set up is envisaged, one selected
Combination and "gift" of two lucky dips given. This is in itself a possible
grand "fiddle", gifted lucky dip idea that is.

Keep in mind tha UK population is nearly exact 1 per cent of World population
and they may be possible hundreds of jackpots in prospect, weekly!

BUt first step is to inrcrease the 6/49 to double and make way for the World
Lottery price of £3 per 3 combination entry.

Our syndicate and myself for certain will not double the amount we spend. I don't see winning bigger consolation prizes is good motivation enough to buy more tickets. We want the jackpot but also rational with the odds in our lottery syndicate at http://www.uk-lottersyndicate.com

As widely predicted here it didn't work.

Saturday jackpots, unless rollovers, are now down to their pre-increase
size of about Ł4.3M, and Wednesday's jackpot, at Ł1.67M was way below
the pre-increase size of about Ł2.2M.

Schadenfreude!

It's worth noting that means fewer players are buying tickets.

As cigarette manufacturers know, the more people you rope in the more
their family assume the practice to be normal and eventually join in
themselves. So by their ill-considered short-term grab, Camelot have
throttled back the pool of potential future players too.

More schadenfreude!
