Those of us who are darksiders deserve a fair random roll. With the
bar 12 we are already, in my opinion, getting screwed out of our money
to begin with. Let's please stop those trying to fix the dice in
favor of the rightside better by allowing them to *ever* have a roll
where both dice are not striking that back wall of pips.

It is illegal for you to sit idle while these guys merely drop the
dice on the table in a manner that avoids our, the darksiders, most
beloved number--the roll ending seven.

Make them roll in a manner where the dice *clearly and with certainty"
strike those backwall pips.

Craps is based on a fair random roll. Whenever, every time, the dice
don't both hit that backwall full of pips then just say "No Roll."
The next time you have to warn them, then ask them politely to pass
the dice. If they argue, then call security.

Darksiders want a fair gamble. Darksiders want a fair gamble.

Redleathers,

A prior discussion has been had on this NG about the shooter, as long as
they satisfy the casino rules, trying to win. If they are shooting from the
"do" they try to roll a comeout natural or repeat their number when a point
is established.

I have seen people who believe they can control the dice shoot from the
darkside and try to roll a seven after a point is established.

I know about 2 years ago I posted about one of the Golden Touch groups who
was at the table I was at who shot from the dark side, and repeated his
point number rather than rolling the seven he was trying to. Second time he
did succeed in getting the seven out he wanted.

My darkside favored rolling would look like trolling at the craps table, were it
not for the (ahem) fact that I was betting "do". If I just bet darkside lay bets
on the come-outs and rolled 7's, that would be far preferable to trying to roll
a point-7; but the casino wants a line bet too.

Any stack odf chips can prevent a die from hitting the back wall too.
Dealers would lose patience & call the "no roll" tactics a "delay of game".

Urps, my sink is gurgling; it must be backing up! Gotta roll!

The big problem with this is that if they can really do it they will usually
only get to make one bet, and then they will have to wait for an hour or so for
the dice to come back to them. If they are on the pass side and succeed they
can make more money.

I think that many roulette players, including but not limited to those seeking a
mathematical advantage, are looking for dealer bias. Something similar happens
with the big-6 wheel. The dealers have some steps they are supposed to take to
combat any possible bias, but I think it happens.

For the record, I do not claim to have ever seen or known first hand of an
advantage gained in this way, but that's the not the point. Part of the image
the house is selling is that there is some hidden advantage that could be
exploited. The same is true for craps.

Concur with Mason-

As any professional ball player will tell you, it's all about ball
control and that's why customer's are nor allowed to spin the ball.
The sector aiming croupier is the adversary that the player has to
overcome. And if the player actually wins over table odds with some
methodology then all he has left to do is to defeat the casino's
countermeaures :-)

I missed some of the discussion about croupiers being able to target sectors of
the roulette wheel, but allow me to tell you -- it has been done, and can be
done.

I was first told about this by a colleague who is an avid roulette player. I
personally have NEVER played it. Frankly, I have no interest.

My friend told me that there are croupiers who can time the release of the
ball, the spin, etc and can target a 9-slot span on the wheel.

About two years ago I played in a Craps Tournament. It was exclusive. Just 30
invited players. The tournament was held in an exclusive high roller parlor at
a major casino. I dont want to mention the casino but let me say this about
the parlor: they had one roulette wheel, european style (single zero), and
minimum bet was $25.

The parlor had three craps tables in a "private room." I had never seen these
tables before, nor did I know they were there.

Frankly, I had never been in this parlor before because I dont belong there.

Anyway-- while we waited for the 8am craps tournament to start, and while we
enjoyed breakfast in the parlor, I asked the croupier at the roulette wheel (no
one was playing then) if it were possible to target a section of the wheel if
the croupier had control?

Well, with NO BETS on the layout, he showed me.

He asked me to pick a number on the wheel, and then for the next five or so
spins he hit a slot within four slots of that chosen number every time.

It was an intersting demonstration.

I've seen that same demonstration, Money. Ditto a pit critter pal of
mine who told me about two (former) dealers at his casino who could
consistently hit a five number sector - and frequently hit a specific
number. It works in reverse as well - I've also seen a dealer
deliberately steer the ball away from a sector bet by a customer he
didn't like.

How about "Cue Lady Shooter: 'Howcum it's a scam and a cheat for
roulette dealers to use 'ball influence' but not a scam and a cheat
for precision shooters to use 'dice influence'?"

Who sez a roulette dealer who influences where the ball drops is
scamming and cheating? Why, none other than The Spindoctor...aka
Sharpshooter (nee Chris Pawlicki).

Read this excerpt:

Scams and Cheats, Part 2
by Christopher Pawlicki, published on Wednesday, October 3 2001

Ball Control

Although no casino will admit to its existence and very few dealers
will nod in acknowledgement, this method is very powerful and easy to
disguise. One cannot deny that a roulette event is heavily influenced
by a human dealer. After all, it is the dealer who kicks up the rotor
speed and launches the little white ball isn't it? These actions
definitely affect where the ball will land. And after years of
repeatedly spinning, the dealer develops what athletes call "muscle
memory" or a consistent delivery system. I will admit it to you right
here, as someone who has dealt the game of roulette, SOME DEALERS CAN
CONSCIOUSLY INFLUENCE THE RESULT OF THE GAME. There, I said it! I know
that deflectors may knock a ball off its original course or the ball
may spatter when it crosses onto the rotor and hits a pocket fret, but
even if a skilled dealer could navigate around the heavily bet sectors
on the wheel only 10% of the time, the casino's edge would be 100% for
those spins! The house's edge would then be [(9) x 5.26% + (1) x
100.00%] all divided by 10. This averages out to a whooping 14.73 %
edge! To further add to this dilemma, there is no way to prove that
the dealer is trying to CHEAT [emphasis added] you, unless you can
read minds! My general observations have led me to believe that "male"
roulette dealers are more territorial. If you begin to win steadily at
their tables, they feel challenged and may spin against you… that is
unless you're a shapely female wearing a low-cut dress. I've also seen
first-generation immigrants working as dealers, who are staunchly
loyal to their new employers. If the issue of ball control troubles
you, you can simply wait for the dealer to spin before placing your
bets. You might actually turn this technique in your favor. If you
recognize a skillful dealer and can build a rapport with him or her,
you may be able to exploit their ability. One way to induce a dealer
into hitting your number is to bet a sector or continuous section on
the rotor of say, five pockets. Place a toke out for the dealer on the
number situated at the sector's center. The dealers seem to appreciate
a crack at collecting 35 times their original toke if they exhibit
some control. If they miss your center number by one or two pockets,
then you still win on the neighbors contained in that sector.

************

So, Steve, maybe you'd like to venture a guess as to why your "pal",
Chris, calls it scamming and cheating when a dealer "influences" the
ball, but won't tell the people who pay for his dice "influencing"
instruction that they're also scamming and cheating.

Take your time.

I guess it all depends on your perspective. I recall being at the
table with an Asian couple . . . they were losing like crazy. They
always waited until the ball had been released, then rushed to place
their numbers. With a little casual observation I detected that they
were always betting the same sector of the wheel - despite waiting
until the last few seconds to place "their" numbers. They lost every
spin - and I observed that the ball was landing directly opposite the
sector they were playing. I started betting that sector and winning.
Eventually the Asian couple left the game - at which point I colored
up a nice win, toked the dealer and headed back to the craps pit.

My pit pal told me the two showboating dealers were terminated - not
because they were cheating - but because they were so good that there
was the POTENTIAL for collusion (cheating) with players. They simply
were not willing to risk having dealers that good running the wheel.

Far be it from me to try to get in SS's head - but IMHO - since the
house already has a 5% plus edge on that game (which holds around 26%
of the drop) they shouldn't feel the need to cheat to help out the
house.

It might be interesting to go down the line and look at the hold on
various table games and see how it relates to the house edge. We've
been chatting about that over on the Axis Power Craps site
(http://axispower.proboards12.com)for a couple of days not.

Example - I think most of you would agree that blackjack, when played
properly, is a better game for players than craps. Yet currently in
the great state of Mississippi the table games hold on blackjack is
higher than on craps.

In the South river region (Natachez, Vicksburg) it shakes out like
this:

Roulette - 30.34%
Blackjack - 22.24%
Craps - 12.57%

In the Coastal region (Biloxi, Gulfport, Bay St. Louis) here are the
numbers:

Roulette - 25.46
Blackjack - 17.322%
Craps - 17.0%

In the North river region (Tunica/Robinsonville/Lula) it looks like
this:

Roulette - 26.57
Blackjack - 15.47%
Craps - 14.5%

Obviously these number can be impacted somewhat when a player "walks
with the chips." Nevertheless - in May the craps hold in Mississippi
casinos was consistently less than blackjack - which is supposedly a
better game for players.

Differenece between influencing dice and influencing the roulette ball:

dice: It has already been confirmed with Nevada gaming enforcement officials
that all shooters want to influence the dice to win their bets, and as long as
the casino's rules about hitting back wall, etc, are met such dice influencing,
control, setting, etc are legal

roulette ball: out of the players' control and if casino personnel can alter
the outcome of the game, I would think this would be a bit shady -- as would be
stacking the cards in a blackjack shoe

An interesting question, albeit a rhetorical one.

There really is no difference between the two.

With roultette, the croupier is cheating the players by controlling
where the roulette ball lands, and if in collusion with a player,
could also cheat the house.

With craps, a bona fide, real world, actual precision shooter would be
cheating both the house and other players if he / she could in fact
control the dice, as the random element required for a fair craps game
would be skewed in favor of bets favored by the precision shooter.

Of course, there is little if any demand for seminars and personal
instruction by desperate and deluded roulette croupiers seeking to
reverse their tide of losses by somehow gaining an edge against the
house...but you already know that's the bottom line.

The fine line is that I believe there is also what I call "dealer bias" whereby
the dealer unconsciously controls where the ball lands. If the player can
discover that, then s/he can take advantage of it to the player's advantage.
Two of my own playing methods for roulette (free on my web site) attempt to
take advantage of this. Unfortunately, the last time that I tried it I believe
that the dealer scammed me so that I missed out on several winning rolls and
lost when I had my bets up. I was making $5 bets on single numbers, which
would have paid $175 for each win. I lost $40 in an attempt to win $175 when I
thought the "dealer bias" was in my favor... it still seems like a good bet to
me.

Surely the whole point of leaving "random number generation" in the
hands of the players is to encourage them to regard it as a game of
skill, where the shooter might possibly influence the outcome. Otherwise
the dice might just as well be thrown by casino staff then they wouldn't
have any arguments about what constitutes a fair roll eg if one die
doesn't hit the back wall because it collides with the other one on the
rebound.

(Actually that's a rather cold-hearted logical view, ignoring the fun
element of throwing the dice)

These are interesting numbers. I have two possible theories.

1. I don't know what the rules for BJ and craps are in MS, but the
pass or DP line in craps with favorable rules (such as 5x odds or
better) has a house advantage that is in the same neighborhood as the
house advantage of a 6 or 8 deck blackjack game with typical rules
against a basic strategy player.

2. I think the volatility of craps might be higher than BJ. I'm a
$10 player and have been playing at this level for about three years.
On three occasions, I've walked away with a win of $1000 or more and
on at least a half a dozen other occasions, I've won over $300 in a
session. The most I've lost in a session is around $400.

In Blackjack, I haven't been as lucky. I've never won as much as $500
in one session of Blackjack. (I usually start betting at $10 and
incresing my bet if I get ahead).

I had a BJ dealer once tell me he could "clock" one of the two
roulette wheels at this casino pretty consistently, he normally was a
roulette dealer/croupier who was subbing in BJ for a few days. He
told me he does it when someone is making toke bets for him in a
"section" and could hit a 4-6 number section pretty consistently. He
told me to try it next time I saw him at that one wheel. I never saw
him there but I believe he was on the up-and-up and not BS-ing me as I
was toking him well at BJ and he knew what he was talking about
compared to most dealers who are clueless. He said he was doing it so
well for one guy the guy actually was making bigger toke bets than his
own bets he was so happy to be winning.

Good grief, what a statement!

Were that so, why don't the mainstream authors and pundits (Scoblete
excepted, of course) devote lots of time and thought to the concept of
dice control?

Love him or hate him, Patrick does not discuss or believe in it.

The "skill" as customarily taught comes from knowledge of the game
coupled to smart, disciplined and astute play.

No, it is just a few scammers or dreamers, trolling for fools' gold,
or munching lotus leaves out on the lunatic fringe, that seem to be
serious about dice control.

Let's not forget the dice sliders.

No it's not. It's a better game for smart players. In order to
achieve the roughly 0.5% house edge in blackjack, you must memorize
the optimal player strategy. If not, the house edge is significantly
higher. The overly-cautious "never bust" strategy, for example, holds
nearly 4%. On a $5 bet, that's nearly 20 cents to the house. If
you're drunk, tired, or otherwise not able to pull off optimal play,
you won't have that low house edge.

Contrast this with craps, where any drunken boob can plop down their
$5 line bet with no skill whatsoever and give the house only 7 cents
on average. Or the place 6/8 bets, 7.5 cents. Since that's what the
majority of players do (at least in my personal experience), it's not
surprising that the house holds less on craps than on blackjack.

Look at it from the casino side......Time is money
Every time that game is stopped the casino is not making money off that
table.

This is really quite simple. It really is impossible to 'play' craps badly,
you just can choose high or low HA bets and high or low variance bets. In
Blackjack the opportunity to misplay your cards comes up in lots of hands.
Blackjack has a lower HA than craps (by a lot if you averages the HA of all
the craps bets made), but only if it is played 'right'. On average people
play blackjack surprisingly poorly (but you already knew this).

I'd say both, to some degree, but I can't say I wouldn't have tried it
- don't know for sure. Technically I would be in collusion with the
dealer if I had done it as he told me what to do ( play a clump of 6
numbers with tokes ) and if he then went through and altered the
result of the game HE would have violated laws and rules and perhaps
I'd be guilty of having planned it upfrint with him - though he
volunteered the info I didn't ask.

The part that makes me hesitate is that he "told me what to do", if
not for that - if I had happened on a situation where the dealer was
clocking and I took advantage of it with no prior knowledge then I'd
say I have no legal worry at all as it would only be HIS PROBLEM to
have cheated for the players for "toke upping" purposes. This is like
front loading or the time I had a dealer giving "unusual" advice to
the cute model-types at my table after peaking. Since I had no prior
relationship or knowledge, if the opp presents itself I feel it is the
dealer's problem and responsibility to "not cheat" and not mine!

So that leaves the moral side of things. Normally I would say I am
very straight laced and not the kind that cheats or tolerates cheating
in most circumstances. But I have to say that I think the casinos
cheat every day. They liquor people up INTENTIONALLY to prey on their
vulnerabilities without shame or conscious. They RIG the machines to
have a 99% more chance to ALMOST WIN than to win to prey on mental and
emotional weaknesses there. They offer a game like blackjack to the
public and then disciminate on who can play based on skill ( not
cheating ). I understand WHY they bar but I don't agree with it or
feel they should be allowed to legally as it is a discimination at
what is supposed to be a game open to ALL the public. How much
different is it than disallowing ASIANS to play just because of their
race? I've both seen and been victim of cheating and of "bad calls"
in the dispute department at casinos. So my attitude is different
about casinos. I DON'T GIVE BACK MOST MISTAKEN PAYOUTS IN MY FAVOR
and I FEEL JUSTIFIED in taking advantage of front loading or anything
"passive" that presents itself to me during play. As long as I didn't
CAUSE IT or TRULY CHEAT in any way I won't ignore opps like that.

I probably would PASS on any such opps in the future as the dealer and
I could get in trouble legally and it is a form of cheating to have
arranged it ahead of time like that. There is a good chance that he
clocks FOR the house at times too though and they may even know and
condone it which would counteract any concern I'd have about cheating
them if they are cheating others. But if I found a clocker by chance
or some non-cheating hole in the system I'd probably take advantage of
it most of the time.

Yep...Stacy has it. The hold is greater on blackjack because the median
player plays with anything from a 2-4% disadvantage, with actually more best
decisions per hour than an average craps player (at least at a fast table).
The most common bets at the craps table are passline with odds, and there is
no strategy decision here. If it takes an average of 3 rolls to decide that
bet, and the overall house edge is under 1%, you have more players playing
better odds, with less decisions per hour than blackjack.

No, no, no...Blackjack played me poorly! How many thousands of hands do I need
to play for all those double downs & splits to appear to make things right
again? 4000? Get me a fast machine that runs on up to 1000 coins in where I can
play 1000 hands every 2 hours (1 hand every 7.2 seconds), and variance may take
on some real life! Casinos always kill good machines with 5 or 10 coin limits,
and bad rules on splitting & doubling down, and other biases that seem like the
machine was screwed down tighter than the concrete on the floor! Then the games
get taken away because nobody plays them. BJ tables on the strip may disappear
because casinos keep toying with the rules in unfavorable ways that drive
players away. That drought out there with the "Brown Lawn Rule" may be a factor
in the future too.

Casinos will keep tightening up the screws until, like you said, there
is a discernable player backlash. Most people are so unconscious I don't
see this happening though.
If only players would refuse to play a $5 limit bankroll on a $10,
$15, or $25 table when the casino raises the table minimums I guarantee
you this would slow down.
In time, more and more states will legalize or expand gambling
to get on the revenue band-wagon. This additional competition can
only benefit the average player.
If and when this happens, Nevada's last ace-in-the-hole will be the
push to legalize on-line gambling there. That will be the tell.

If Pennsylvania's new approval of gambling really does mean that state will
have more casinos than New Jersey and if they don't jerk around with their
program like New York, Atlantic City might definitely feel some
repercussions about both table conditions and ancillary deals like comps and
rooms.

An hour west of Carousel Mall, barring excessive construction on the Thruway
(like between Exits 42 & 43, LOL)
Goin' to the televised Poker Tourney at Turning Stone this week (Wednesday?)? I
don't think I have the Fox Sports Channel here. I did just reprogram my TV and
found a half a dozen extra channels, but... They say the Tourney will have a 5
minute broadcast delay to prevent cheating. Otherwise, it's $20 transportation
costs to visit a crowded House from here.

The Turning Stone Casino $10,000 buy-in "American Poker Championship",

Notes:

Note the change in telecast time for Comcast Sportsnet Philadelphia,
which will now air the event at 7pm Eastern Time joined in progress
due to contractual obligations with advertisers of the
regional sports news program "SportsNite".

Viewers in Maryland, Virginia, most of Delaware (except wilmington),
and parts of south-central Pennsylvania (Harrisburg and York)
who get Comcast Sportsnet Mid-Atlantic
will NOT get the 6:30pm-7pm portion of the
event also due to "SportsNite".

The telecast time on FOX Sports Net New England is subject to change
due to a time-buy contract issue between
FOX Sports Net New England and the
MLS New England Revolution soccer team.

If you do not live in an area served by a FOX Sports Net affiliate
in the EASTERN DAYLIGHT time zone, you can still watch the "LIVE"
broadcast if you have DirecTV, DISH Network, or digital cable
and you subscribe to a sports pack with out of market
regional sports networks (DirecTV, DISH Network)
or FOX Sports Digital Networks (digital cable).

The only "top 60" TV market that does not have access
to the event broadcast via analog cable TV is Buffalo, which
currently does NOT have a primary FOX Sports Net affiliate.

Symptom: Orange skin
Orange skin: Orange coloring of the skin
Introduction: Orange skin coloring can result from various disorders. One
common cause is overeating of dietary items that contain orange-colored
beta-carotene (e.g. pumpkins, carrots) and this often causes orange skin
from carotenemia in young infants newly introduced to solids. True orange
skin color needs to be differentiated from yellow skin (such as jaundice),
bronze skin (see hyperpigmentation), red skin, dark skin or other skin
color changes; some causes of skin described as "orange" may possibly be
listed under these areas. There are various possible causes of orange skin
and any "orangeness" needs prompt professional medical investigation.

the player put the cards over these windows, it showed hi hand. (I

As a dice setter who will bet against the dice on pretty much ANYBODY - I'll tell you that for most DI's - not hitting the back wall with both dice is much more likely to result in a seven then when both dice DO hit the back wall. No, I don't expect most of you to understand this. But it is what it is. Every DI I know PRACTICES hitting the wall with both dice because we don't want the heat that comes with missing it. Sometimes, due to rotational differences in the two dice - one will pancake in and die on the spot while the other tumbles on to the back wall. This is NOT an intentional occurrence, and personally - I wish it never happened. It does, though, so I guess you'll just have to get over it.
