I'm looking for a romantic Italian or French restaurant in
Santa Cruz. Any recommendations?
Thanks very much.

Well, it's neither Italian or French, but is definitely a romantic restaurant
spot in Santa Cruz:
Try India Joze (sp?). It's next to the Goodwill store in Santa Cruz, but I
don't remember the exact address. There menu exhibits an interesting variety
of entrees, and on occasion they also have theme dinner specials, like during
the mushroom festival and stuff. For just about every meat item on the menu,
they also have the same item without meat. They also have an excellent
assortment of beverages, fine service, and damn good desserts. My girlfriend
and I had a wonderful time eating there, and look forward to going back again
sometime for another romantic dinner.
I know it isn't specifically Italian or French, but it is worth a visit, and
about all I can help you with in the Santa Cruz area.

(don't let my email address fool you, I go to school in Illinois but am really
just an undercover Californian trying desperately to corrupt the rest of the
country :-)
: Try the Shadow Cliff in Capitola. Good food, very romantic - but I haven't
: been there in 5 years, so who knows??
I believe you mean the Shadowbrook - it's built into the hillside and
has recently been renovated - new walkways, fixed tram, etc
also, a new place with an excellent chef is Sanderlings at the
Seascape Lodge & Resort - you can get a window table and watch the sunset
over the ocean - I especially like the 2nd floor - there's no one next to you
the waiters are quite good and un-obtrusive

I believe you mean Shadowbrook! I have been there recently and the
food has always been very good. If you go ask for a window seat!
They have one that is completely secluded on the stairway in the back
but my husband and I (or at least I) didn't like that one very much
because sometimes people travel that staircase and it felt kind of
wierd to be sitting there all by yourselves and having people walk
by you. Anyway, try it out! It is located above a river and is
settled amongst a lot of trees. You can either walk down to it or
take their 'tram' ride. Either way it's lovely!

Well Robert I think it's the ShadowBrook! I haven't been
there in 10 years but it was so romantic - I don't remember what I ate.
sorry - I've heard only bad comments about India Joze
if you want romantic.....
try the Shadowbrook in Capitola - it's built into a hill overlooking
the Soquel River - it has a tram to take you down to the restaurant
or you can walk down the redone pathways - effective lighting (malibu
lites) along the walkways - the food is average - but you're looking
for romantic....so
or Sanderling's in the Seascape Resort Lodge - ask for an upstairs window
table and watch the sunset - they also have paths to stroll around & down
to the Bay
we also like to go to Cafe Rio in Rio De Mar - again, ask for a window
table - this overlooks the sandy beach, bay & cement ship
