I was out yesterday with a dear friend, "running amok" as she calls it,

On the way home we stopped at Sprouts to look at the cherries they advertised. The cherries didn't look very good--small, not sweet, so we bypassed them.

Dewberry jelly and jam - done

We just finished making three and half pints of dewberry jelly and one pint of dewberry jam.
This is the first time I used the steamer to gather berry juice, worked well but took a long time to get the juice. Ended up with eight cups of juice and two cups of the leftovers. I ran the leftovers through the... more »

Miz Anne picked a bucket full of dewberries yesterday and today I have them steaming in the steamer since about 0830. So far about two quarts of pure juice and more coming on all the time. I'm already having visions of pint jars full of dewberry jelly, our first time to make any since about 1976.... more »

Mother's Day

Happy Mother's Day to all the mother's on this group. We're off in a couple of hours to our daughter's for a big family Mom's Day dinner and hooraw. Went out about 0800 this morning, toting a cup of black coffee and followed by the faithful dawg. The figs are getting bigger, might get a crop big enough to at least make a half pint of fig jam. ...It's always great to find an heirloom recipe. My mother and yours must have had a connection, Mom's spelling was, at best, a wild guess and she didn't know what punctuation was.

I canned some last year and now they are mush instead of crisp......I
used half water and half vinegar and HWB process as a recipe called
for.....anyone have a better recipe?....thanks...Carol

Pantry addition

Yesterday and today I am working on converting my office closet into an auxiliary pantry. Putting in one by twelve shelving, already had one shelf, I'm adding five more, fourteen inches apart, just right for stacking cases of full or empty jars.
