I made some yellow summer squash pickles earlier this year, bread and
butter type, straight from "So Easy to Preserve." Got a report yesterday
from one of my grandsons and his family that they were a hit. His boys,
11 and 2, really liked them. I guess there is a way to preserve squash
for later use.
Ben and his family were here yesterday, he came over to do some roof
work for us, neither of us gets more than one foot off the ground
anymore. That finishes off the items on the home inspector's deficiency
list and gets us one more step closer to closing. The buyer's appraiser
comes this week and then we see what happens.
Opened the last quart jar of pear slices in sucralose solution today.
Intend to make a nice pear cobbler for later. Put them up two years ago.
Also ran into a couple of jars of pear sauce in the pantry from the same
time. I like a tablespoon of that on my oatmeal. All of our home canned
stuff is boxed up and ready to go.
Sweet chiles still producing more than we need. Lots of local friends
are getting gifted and the grandson took a bag full home with him. I was
amazed that his boys like raw chiles, most kids that young don't want to
eat anything healthy. I had made a huge stew on Friday with potatoes,
carrots from the garden, sweet chiles, sweet onion, garlic chives, etc.
There was just enough leftover for the descendants to take home with
them for their dinner. Now people can see why we want to move closer to
all these people of ours.
