Leafy taste in a cup
|
| |
My recent GuangDong black tea wont infuse properly till after several infusions ie the leaves float in the cup and you have to use your lips as a sieve till they become water logged and settle on the bottom of the cup. Even a loose Yunnan black tea infuses from the bottom also like compressed shu. As a work around to produce the same leafy taste... more »

Teavana Tung Ting
|
| |
Another one of those slight of hand teas ie something from nothing. This is a better Tung Ting than any I got from TenRen in SF Chinatown. [link] The whole leaves are smaller and younger than most. The older leaf becomes more krinkled. The wet leaves are the sixth infusion. Youre... more »

Reading tea leaves in a movie
|
| |
Recently I saw They Died With Their Boots On with Errol Flynn from 1941. Of all the Custer movies I liked this one the best. That is my movie review. In the movie is a scene of reading tea leaves. I think most of us have seen a gypsy scene reading tea leaves. This one I thought odd. The tea is drank from a cup with tea leaves. I always... more »

The new tea smell
|
| |
One of our Chinese knick knack shops carries a good selection of teas. They are those ubiquitous Chinese only large cardboard cylinders like the TenRen numbered series. These are the expensive ones in the $75/300g range. Too much for me to take a chance. On my last visit the store now offers 25g/$4 samplers of the various boxes.... more »

Dominic: Is Zhang Ping Shui Hsian the same as Shui Xian?
|
| |
I emailed Upton asking if they carry Shui Xian. I got a reply pointing me to Zhang Ping Shui Hsian: [link]. Can you tell me if is similar to what you meant when you suggested Shui Xian? The Upton tea comes in 9g "mini bricks". Is this how Shui Xian is usually packed? Thanks

Fermented tea by the pound
|
| |
This $10/5lb bag tea comes from Xing Hua Food, Xin Xui District, Jiang Men City, GuangDong. [link] Normally a cheap bulk oolong restaurant tea wouldnt get me excited except in this case for the location and leaf grade with a little etymology thrown in. GuangDong can no longer use the term Puer to... more »

What do you know about this teapot?
|
| |
I stumbled upon this group recently and am delighted and amazed by the shared information and experience. Already I have begun tasting new teas though not yet beyond what I find at the Indian and Chinese supply houses in my neighborhood. Thank you. I also enjoy using a variety of teapots but this one, found at a resale... more »
