The instructions on my french press say to use a course grind, but I
read in a recent magazine article somewhere that it's best to use a
fine grind. What grind do you use in your press?

The magazine is wrong. Use a coarse grind, or at least a medium grind
(if using medium, shorten the steeping time).

Not only do you use coarser grinds for brewing methods with longer
steeping times (such as the press), a fine grind can make the plunger
difficult to depress.
