Ths years Bigfoot seems to be a well balanced beer even at this early
stage of it's life. Still a hop monster, but not to the detriment of
the malt bill. I sampled a '98 and '99 togeather over the weekend and
found the '98 has aged very well and is now as drinkable as the '99.

Here in town it runs 12.99 at the 'good beer' store and 9.99 at
the local grocers. Haven't seen it for any less than that. But
I'm still looking....

Where have you found it "around here"? (I'm assuming from your e-mail address
that you're up in W. Lafayette). I haven't seen it yet in Indianapolis, and
one of the "good beer" store I frequent says they don't expect it until
sometime in March.

Your assumption is correct - West Lafayette. Surprised to see it isn't in
Indy yet. Maybe you're not looking in the right places? The 'good beer' store
up here had at least 10 cases showing, and the grocer had 6 cases on display.
Hey - Do you ever see any of Larry Bell's brews in Indianapolis? I've heard
conflicting stories about their availability in Indiana. Never see them up
here.

Are the bottles you're seeing 1998 or 1999? I can still find the stray 1998
bottle around here but haven't seen any sign of the 1999. Distribution of Big
Foot has been real spotty in Indianapolis over the past few years; seems like
Illinois and Michigan "intercept" a lot of the shipment that comes out this
way.
As for Bell's he hasn't sold in Indiana for a few years. Basically, he
couldn't get along with the distributors, who apparently wouldn't treat the
beer to his satisfaction. However, Ace Discount Liquors on 96th Street in
Fishers (a northeast Indy suburb) is supposed to be getting Bell's in in the
next few weeks. I don't know if a distributor has started handling them
again, if a new one has been set up (there is a new one down here, but I
don't know what they're carrying or if they're up and running yet) or if Ace
just is bringing it in on their own.

Most absolutely this year's vintage. No doubt about it.

I'll have to investigate this further... Please keep me posted if and when it
does show up in Fisher or anywhere else around Indy for that matter. That
certainly is something to look forward to....

Here's some rumor to muddy up the water. I was at the beer store and I
got to talking to the beer dude. He said the tri state area got 180
cases of BF. 180 cases seems a little light for three states.... But if
he's right, it's in Indiana.
...about the same price as SNCA
...But I pay it anyway! (and with a smile)

Son of a bitch. Haven't gotten it up here and we get pretty much the
whole SN line. Damn damn damn.
I gotta talk to my distributor.

Anyone know if State Line (?) Liquor in Oakland, Maryland has Bigfoot? I'll
drive a couple hours to get some...
The only good news is that Old Dominion Millenium is coming (in quantity) in
a few weeks...

Hasn't arrived in Portland, either, which has been a real pisser.
Finally got Don Younger to call the brewery the other day and was told
that the states with special labels (presumably the Oregon deposit
notice) took longer. Frankly, this has got to be utter horseshit,
because all their beers have a label that says something like "OR, MI,
ME blah blah blah 5c deposit". It doesn't take a separate label, just
the notice on it.
The only thing that *does* make sense is that Oregon is insisting on
some notice about alcohol content on beers over ?%, which Bigfoot
certainly is. Some beers come in with the abv on the label (imports,
mostly) but others have to have a little green sticker hand-applied to
the bottle cap.
We had a shipment of Orval delayed for weeks because this was waiting
to be done in the warehouse, but I know this isn't the case with
Bigfoot because it's not in the warehouse at the distributor. Perhaps
this is the reason for the delay?
At any rate, we have been told that it will be available on Monday the
15th.

I agree with the "utter horseshit" idea because it's been in MA since at
least last Friday, and, as you say, "MA" would appear on the same label as
"OR."
>The only thing that *does* make sense is that Oregon is insisting on

The '99 label also lists 9.6% abv, but, as others have pointed out, that
could be label boilerplate because it seems to have a bit more of a kick
than that. It's interesting that the only year designation Bigfoot carries
is on the cap (unlike the Pale Bock or SNCA, which have dated neck labels),
so I have a feeling SN would have just overprinted a bunch of labels that
they slap on every year, all of which makes anything to do with labels as an
explanation for the lack of Bigfoot in OR seem highly suspect.
P
Yeah, it was around $10.99 a six pack - and I didn't see it go on "fire
sale" after the holidays (some places had a lot of it left). I think at some
places they just store it in the back and sell it the next year.
I usually go to Whole Foods (aka - The Food Hole) to buy my beer because
they have an awesome selection and the guy who buys the beer there knows me,
and I know he keeps his stock fresh.
Other SN beers usually hover around the $6.00 - $7.00 mark - although one
time I saw SNPA go for $10.99 a twelve pack! (You can rest assured I bought
some!)
