Trump is right. Much fake news and I just saw 2 local
news channels doing just that a few minutes ago on the
news at noon.

OMG!
Headline:
"Large crowds at the beach this holiday weekend"
Then they showed many clips of huge crowds on the
beach (the sand), walking on the boardwalk and eating at the
outdoor beach restaurants.

Fake part is all those shots were taken last year or
some other summer weekend. All show bright sunny
weather and hot. Many people on the beach in just
bathing suits, mass crowds on the boardwalk wearing
shorts and t-shirts, and same with the people
sitting in very crowded outdoor cafe's.

1) not a single person wearing a mask
2) No sun here at the beach all weekend
It's been cloudy, cold and windy and even mostly
fog/drizzle right here at the oceanfront all weekend
and even still now.

To their credit, they did show a few brief shots of
real life at the oceanfront this weekend. Almost nobody
on the sand and the boardwalk is mostly deserted.
The few people out are dressed very heavily and warmly for
this crappy cold weather. Very gray ocean and sky.

Virginia Beach always lies and likes to portray a
perfect little resort town. They have the local
news here helping them out with that. Must be some
serious "under the table" money being exchanged here.

I was appalled at what I just watched on the news.

Personally, I feel sorry for anyone that spent their
vacation money to come here this weekend. It is NOT
a nice weekend at all for a beach vacation. Even
the ocean water is still cold.

I really need to move away from this area.

You are 1000% *correct*, the liberal NYC and West Coast - based MSM is all gloom and doom, one has to really search for some honest reporting...the NY Times frex reads like "The Onion" these daze...

Let me guess, Gary...I'd bet dollars to donuts that those shots were also taken with an *extreme* telephoto lens...a few weeks ago that is what happened when peeps were reported "swarming" the only open beaches in SoCal, IIRC it was Orange County...

Yesterday I saw some pix from Ocean City, it was a "normal" crowd, but natcherly it was an *extreme* telephoto lens shot...I checked out a local Baltimore station, they had a video report, things looks fairly spaced out on the beach and boardwalk...and it was a decent day...

Well, Gary, Illannoy is worse, do not move here! Our PIG spoiled brat $3.4 billionaire "governor" and our dwarf freak shitcago "mayor" are intent on destroying this state so that President Trump can be blamed and thus defeated, and also to get a federal bail-out for our fucked - up IL state budget.

I posted this article on my FB feed, and below are my several comments:

https://wirepoints.org/never-mind-the-courts-says-pritzker-only-his-view-of-the-science-and-data-matter-wirepoints/

From the above article:

"Illinois is being destroyed…llinois now has the harshest emergency pandemic rules in the nation. Pritzker’s plan may not ever fully reopen Illinois since that would require a vaccine or complete disappearance of the virus, which may never happen. His right to rule on his own through vast emergency powers likewise has indefinite duration, he has told the courts…What is Pritzker thinking? He is now out of touch — oblivious to the firestorm surrounding his order, disdainful of the rule of law and confident he can dismiss all critics as political grandstanders and much worse…”

My comment re: the above article:

"Gregory Morrow: Between this "governor" and Chicago's "mayor", this is simply a disgraceful grab for power. Our elected officials serve at *our* "grace and favor", these two forget that. Their tactics are illegal per the US Constitution. And their tactics remind me of how the communists or the nazis eventually took over, they'd start with "emergency powers" during a "crisis", and then... :-( I would *love* to see President Trump move in the National Guard to secure houses of worship. The original shutdown I agreed with, but this...I am truly ashamed to be an Ilinois citizen...I am very concerned about our civil liberties - not to mention the millions of lives that are being ruined in this state alone as a result of these arbitrary and careless policies...this is not a "right" or "left" issue, this is basic common sense..."

Thanks for the heads up.
I still think re opening will be a disaster.
Did not miss a day of work being healthcare and all, sorta like JK ish.

House paid, no bills, new roof in 2019 but no people touching my shit.

The roof was more than 100 grand less than our rfc nurses roof, yet to happen.

The funny part is that everybody knows that there's going to be a second wave of infections but people are powerless to prevent it. My guess is that there's going to be a third wave. At that time this country will just say "screw it" and take the hit.

The Asians, of course, are going to be made the scapegoat in all of this. I mean, somebody's got to take the blame, right?

In the 1918 - 1919 pandemic, what was a primary cause of that oft - now quoted "second wave"...???

That is bosh...it's China's government at fault, not "Asians"...

PS: notice what China is doing to Hong Kong, that is *another* outrage...

When I went by the beach last week, it was quite lively. It was quite a scene this week too. People should not fly over to this rock though because you'll get your ass confined to your hotel room for 14 days. The people on this rock will report your ass if it tries to escape. Tourists are not real welcome at this time.

I don't think that there is any doubt about the Chinese having had a big
part in this pandemic. By Chinese I meant the people in China. There is
a significant racial group we call Chinese because they or their
forefathers came from China. Then there are the billion or so people who
live in China. We have mixed feelings about them. The west fought them
in the Korean war, though they deny having been involved. They have had
a secretive and oppressive government for 70 years. There is little
love lost between westerners and the Chinese government, which is not
the case with immigrants from China.

Certainly NOT fake news then! No beach here but the crowds were out
yesterday and an unbelievable amount of traffic and cyclist numbers
going to and from the big park near to which I live.
I went for coffee this morning, meeting a friend outside a Starbucks. We
wore masks but very few passers by did.
People are becoming very casual about precautions it seems.

Now that the nice weather is here and people want to think this pandemic
has pretty well run its course they are coming out in droves. A week ago
Sunday my friend and I went for a motorcycle ride down through Niagara
on the Lake and down to Niagara Falls. We were astounded by the number
of people out. Traffic along the parkway was solid and I have never seen
so many people out running, walking and cycling. My son works in
Niagara Falls and he said it was packed on Saturday night.

Unfortunately, America has a leader that is completely flummoxed by this disease. He's giving out conflicting/bad recommendations/medical advice to the country and is not taking covid-19 seriously. He's encouraging people to just carry on like there no problem at all and he's got a lot of people that believe everything he says and are willing to lay down their lives for him. There are people at my wife's hospital that won't wear a mask because their fearless leader says it's okay to not wear one. Our fearless leader will have much to answer for when this blows over. Acting too late is just the first of his many crimes.

And sw (Mr.Knowitall) is wrong...they didn't have any
"file footage" notes under the videos shown.

This morning's local news (ABC) showed more about the
weekend at the beach. This time showing cloudy grey
weather, very few people on beach or boardwalk and
also eating outside at some boardwalk cafe's. Some
were wearing masks, all were dressed warmly, jackets
and sweatshirts. That's "real news."

But then they did another fake one briefly.
Quick story about our Governor visiting Va.Beach this
weekend. Sunny and warm day. He was in short sleeves
and many people all around in shorts, etc. He was
standing in a crowd greeting and talking with people.
Not a single mask to be seen.
And NO, Stevey, again no "file footage" caption.

Anyway, same damn miserable weather today and also

down under they had summer weather, now that is reversing and it will
be interesting to see if our stats decrease and theirs increase, in
which case we should be prepared for next winter here.

That comment does seem to be true often. (for better or worse)
So many times when I form an opinion, I feel like the
"difficult one" but often it turns out that the majority
feels the same way.

Current example: I feel that Trump's best ammo to win a
re-election is all the constant bullying ever since he
was elected. Even farther back to when he first announced
that he was running. It's been non-stop.

And I'm not talking about usenet bullying. That happens with
any president and the losing side gnashing teeth.

I'm talking about Congress wasting all of our tax dollars
doing one investigation after another just trying to
ruin him. I've never seen it so bad in my lifetime.

They did impeach him (just like Clinton was) but not
removed from office. That entire process shamed them and
wasted so much tax dollars.

After all this grief, I'm suprised that he would even want
to be re-elected. After all, he is rich and has earned his
fame as being a president, plus a nifty retirement income
for life including bodyguards for life.

He's old and maybe just time to retire and enjoy the rest
of his life. I suspect that he really doesn't give a crap
whether he wins or loses. He's already won it all.

Proven that large crowds are the best places to get the virus.
Large cities, retirement homes, etc.

The seasonal theory fits that. Cold weather when very few people
have outside activities and tend to go to inside places where
there are many more people.

All true as far as I know, and IMO that makes it a Chinese issue. In
this day and age of political correctness bullshit, attributing it to
its source is interpretted by these twits as racist.

I saw a similar racist angle in a Toronto newspaper yesterday. There had
been big spontaneous gathering at the Trinity Bellwoods park in
Toronto. A opion piece in the Toronto Star written by a woman with a
middle eastern name in appearance called them white covidiots.
Apparently it is acceptable to make negative comments about white
people. There was no mention about what had happened in Niagara Falls.
The city's tourist business has all but shut down for the pandemic, Over
the last few years the falls have been attracting huge numbers of south
Asians and middle eastern people from the Toronto area. My son was
working down there and it was all to wall brown skinned people. No one
would day to publish that in the media, but white people going to their
neighbourhood park are fair game. Heaven forbid any of those white
people refer to the Chinese virus.

Cry me a river. I heard the whining about the Covid related racism
against Chinese Canadians when this thing first started. The fact is
that it started in China and there had been thousands and thousands of
Chinese Canadians who had gone back home for the moon festival. That was
about the time the virus started showing up here. They were complaining
that their kids were being hassled at school. Meanwhile, they are the
ones wearing the masks.

I just watched a live press conference held by the Mayor of Savannah,
GA. I don't live in Savannah but I was curious about what he had to
say. He went out walking around this weekend (wearing a mask) just to
see firsthand what was actually going on in his town over Memorial Day
weekend. He reported people all over the place, mostly 20-somethings,
and most of them not wearing masks. Crowds on the sidewalks and parks.
Restaurants with outdoor seating were packed. No social distancing. He
overheard a guy who wasn't wearing a mask talking about him (the Mayor)
to some other people. The guy said, "Bet the Mayor doesn't wear a mask,
no way am I going to wear a mask." The idiot he didn't even know the
Mayor was a few feet away, wearing a mask. The Mayor spoke up, but he
didn't identify himself. (He wasn't out to bust the guy.) He simply
said, "Masks are a good idea and the right thing to do." The guy said
again, "I'm not going to wear a mask."

That's the temperature of things in Savannah right now. People just
gotta get out and hang out in crowds and to hell with how it affects
anyone else.

The Mayor brought up a very good point in his press conference. If this
virus isn't brought under control *now*, what's going to happen if
there's a hurricane? Where do these people think they're going to go?
Aunt Fanny up north probably isn't going to want them to come stay with
her. Hotels in Atlanta won't welcome them, either. Temporary
evacuation shelters would become a hotspot for spread of the virus and
that would be a huge problem.

IMHO, people need to stop being so selfish. It won't kill you to stay
home. It might just kill you if you don't.

When the temps are mild and the sun is shining I sit on the patio and
read. The self-isolation orders don't say you can't spend time in your
own back yard or on your balcony or patio. Just don't go hanging out in
crowds and if you must, please wear a mask. It's pretty simple, really.

We could be in for stormy times with China in the near future.Canada is
already in their bad books because we acted on a US request to arrest
and hold a Chinese executive for violating trade sanctions. They have
retaliated by refusing to buy some Canadian agricultural products and
they had arrested and held two Canadian men for a year and a half,
accusing them of spying.

Meanwhile, the protests are heating up in Hong Kong. There are 300,000
"Canadians" living there, most of whom came over in the early 90s, got
Canadian citizenship, and then returned. Our government likes to send a
signal that we will defend out citizens, even though people like them
are basically citizens of convenience. It should be interesting.

If the House (which is mostly lawyers) felt they had enough
evidence for a Bill of Impeachment, then not drawing up the
bill would have been a dereliction of their duty.

The duty of a good Christian is to to keep the Sabbath holy. The Church
thrives on the concept of good vs evil and you show that you are good by
being a member of the church and attending services.... where they get
your money. In most churches it was common for churchgoers to do
business with other members of their church. When I was younger,
Protestants would patronize Protestant run business and avoid doing
business with Catholics.... and vice versa. A lot of businessmen went
to church for business contacts more than for worship.

FWIW... there are a lot of Dutch immigrants around here. While some of
them are normal, likeable people, a lot of the others are quite
fundamentalist, variations of the the Reformed Church. They are often
referred to as the Dutch Mafia because they latch on to various
agricultural and agriculture based businesses and corner markets. While
they will market their products and services outside their Reform
community, they go only to each other for supplies.

It has it's pros and cons. While they have their strange ways they make
good neighbours. They are hard working and build nice houses. The kids
are generally law abiding. The worst you might expect is speeding. You
won't catch them living off welfare.

This is also how the Netherlands was before the 60s. Very
compartmentalized. For instance, if you were a kid and joined a
football club, it would be a Catholic, Protestant or Socialist club.
And there was no choice. Your background decided that for you. This
nonsense largely disappeared in the 60s.

They still exist as a small minority in the Netherlands. They're like
stuck in time. There are several variations of them, because when they
disagree about a religious topic, one side will split off and start a
new church.

We get that. Maybe he should stop watching the fake news.

Ah ok. Might do that. Hard to say yet of course.

I was wondering about that one on the governors visit. Something didn't
ring right there.

LOL! They have areas of protection and areas open to the public for
fishing. I believe it's some of the better crabbing at the First
landing park?

She is not hurting anyone and I think that is a big plus.

It obviously does keep her happy and at a time like this it a good
thing!

Why don't you pop along with her to see ;p

Your posts have plenty of angles/spin/POVs. They're your posts and reflect

The entire park is open to the public but the official trails
for people only skirts the perimeters. I used to hike out
in the remote places, following animal trails, not the people
trails. Steve is right that you're not supposed to take
anything from the park itself. That's what he read.

The difference is that although I parked there
(the 64th St. entrance) down at the water's edge, the
state park ends at the mean high tide mark. All the
seafood from the bay is NOT in the state park.
No problem parking in the state park then getting
fish, crab, clams, oysters from the bay (Broad Bay).
People do that all the time. Perfectly legal.

> I believe it's some of the better crabbing at the First

Maybe on the north end on the Chesapeake Bay. (?)
I've never gone to that side.

The south side of the park borders Broad Bay and
don't waste your time crabbing there. Most crabs there
are too small to keep.

The very best crab spots at the beach are inside
of Rudee Inlet. I discovered a "honey spot" years
ago. I could go and set out 4 lines and fill two
5-gallon buckets in less than an hour. That's about
8 dozen crabs.

Sadly, since then, that whole Croatan area has been all
developed. Massive housing and no where to park for
visitors. Only way for good crabbing there now is
to have a boat to get there.

My daughter was born May 1979. We stayed home often
that summer as she was a newborn. Every weekend on
a day off, I would get up at dawn and catch a bushel
of crabs. I was always home before the girls even
got up.

Then I would kill them, cook them and put away in the
fridge. Much of our summer was watching tv while picking
crabs. Eating as much as we wanted but also freezing
some in 1/2 pound bags.

Buy end of crab season, we had 28 pounds of crabmeat
in the freezer plus had probably eaten that much by then
too.

With that surplus, we ended up trying many different
crab recipes. So many good ones.

Note to Bruce: The above was a true Dave-like story. :)

Yes, but it was also an *interesting* story, unlike Dave's lengthy maudlin tales...

What kind of crabs, BTW...???

If you consider NBC and ABC fake news, you're no different
than Trump. He's always said the same thing about them.
