That dish I mentioned last week and we were bandying about; the one I
planned to make using browned ground lamb with garlic, leaf spinach and
some grated lemon rind. (Might add a little of the lemon juice, I'll
have to taste the dish before deciding if it needs it.)

I already had all the ingredients except for the lemon. So I walked
across the street to a friends' house and asked her if I could pick a
lemon from the tree in their front yard. Sure, help yourself! :)

I'll probably make some garlic bread to go with it. For the beverage, I
think I'll try the Reisling my boss & his wife gave me (one of three
different types of wine) for Christmas.

This is pretty much an experiment. I'll be sure to let everyone know
how it turns out.

Happy New Year!

Jill, as per her usual, will "celebrate" in *solitude*.

A lemon her only "friend".

Happy New Year to you, too, Ophelia! I've almost finished cooking the
seasoned ground lamb with the garlic. It doesn't appear to be extruding
too much fat so I doubt I'll have to drain it. I just stirred in some
of the lemon zest from a very fresh just picked lemon and from the
scent, it is adding a nice bright note. I'll be adding the spinach shortly.

I hope you'll be having a nice New Year's Eve meal. Hogmanay! ;)

Oh no, what happened to your arm??

I hope that you recover soon, that sounds like an awful way to start the

Bizarre gardening accident. Ophelia was carrying the silver tea set
with cucumber sandwiches outside, stepped on a shovel, which hit her
in the face... She went reeling backwards, tripped over her husband
who was sun baking naked and fell into the cellar. Both arms and
hairdo sustained injuries.

People who laugh at jokes, not because they're funny, but because
they're aimed at their "enemy", are incredibly lame and childish.

Lucretia may be 80 or so, but she has the maturity of a 10 year old.

We had a quiet night at home, but we ate well

We started with smoked salmon and a dipping sauce of sour cream,
horseradish and a bit of lemon zest.

The main course was rack of herb crusted rack of lamb that turned out
really nicely, a nice medium rare. I made squashed potatoes and steamed
green beans to go along with that.

Dessert was chocolate eclairs with some fruit, a then coffee and a Gran
Marnier.

We toasted in the new year with a cognac.

In the early 80’s I was working in Montreal and one weekend we decided to go to Vermont. My brother-in-law
offered us the use his Mercedes, but unfortunately it was a 300D (definitely non-turbo). There is a reason it is
called the Green Mountain State. We had a great weekend, but that car was so slow. It had cruise control but
every time we hit a slight hill it could not keep the speed up, so it clicked off.

The final blow was getting passed by a Lada when we were going up a hill. Not a car for a hilly country.

Maybe you find it funny, but I don't think that bodily injury is
amusing. I do my best to not make assumptions on age, but I'd assume
that Ophelia is someone close to the age of my grandmother. Grandma had
a fall a few days ago, and she bruised her whole back side.
Fortunately, nothing was broken, and nothing major came of it.

She fell hard enough to knock the TV stand into the wall, and left a
small hole in the drywall. I don't see how anything like this is
amusing in the least. I don't understand why *so many* people here wish
bodily harm or worse on others. It's rather perverse.

Bodily injury can be funny. And you sometimes think they're funny too,
when it suits you. Yes, that's what I said. My little story is a joke,
fiction. It never happened. I find people like you somewhat
simple-minded if you cannot make the distinction between a joke and
reality. You get offended by my comment, and yet it's only a matter of
time before I can point out your hypocrisy. I'll try to make a point
of doing just that.

Do it, I dare you. Seriously though, call me out... I prefer
straightforward people.

Obviously it was made up, and you were joking. Too many people pick on
Ophelia, and I think it's unjust. Even if you don't like her, fine, but
it's in horrible taste to make fun of someone after they broke an arm.
It's hardly funny if it happens to a younger person, but far from it
when it happens to an older person.

That was a blanket statement, not directed personally at you. Seems to
be a too-frequent attitude here.

Your 'dare' me. LOL. OK, it's just a matter of time. I've done this so
many times before, exactly this very thing.

I thought I was. Been told I'm a 'straight shooter' often enough.

Well, see, with due respect you haven't been here as long as many of
us. Is she polite and uses non-offensive language? Yes. Is she of good
character? I would submit she is not. I can think of a few examples,
but what's the point mentioning now without direct links to her posts
(I couldn't be bothered). Put it another way, how many here reply to
her at all in a polite manner... ask yourself why that is.

Well, we'll just have to agree to disagree on that. I see no
correlation between joking and necessarily wishing ill on somebody, or
gloating over their misfortune. I'm definitely a black humour type of
guy. If you think this is bad, you'd have a seizure on posts/memes I
see elsewhere.

I smashed my big toe badly about 5 weeks ago, and only now able to
wear my boots again. I made lots of self-deprecating jokes about
myself. I just don't get why people have your point of view, I really
don't.

True, I haven't been here that long, so I won't comment on that.
However, as I see it, it seems that many people here like to rip down
people who they feel are "inferior", which is not my cup of tea.

Lol. I heard my city fireworks too but they didn't wake me up. I was
already awake watching tv (in bed). The alternate old ppl activity.

My joke about old people was this:

Only old people are awakened at midnight on this day.
Young people are all up partying at this same time.

Ok then but that leaves *your* case, Mr.Young.Fellow :)

Define "young". The last time I stayed up for New Year's was 1999,
and that was just to see if the electrical power grid would stay on.

New Year's Eve is just not interesting. Booze. Midnight. Auld Lang
Syne. Same thing every year.

It's called a television in my area.
Tv always on (very low volume) and also a fan.

I don't bother either. It's a <YAWN> thing to do.

Haha, I don't like people. I've never "partied", that sounds miserable.
I'd rather be away from the crowd.

I used to watch Dick Clark's rockin new years eve on ABC every year.
Even though he's passed, for some reason, they still have the naming
rights, and use his name on the program... kind of odd. I didn't bother
to try to tune in (not an easy task without cable or an antenna).

Uh-huh... OK, Karen. So, you're back to critiquing other people's
posts. On Usenet of all places. What you like and don't like... I
don't give a shit what you like and dislike here.

WHY are you here? This is an uncensored and unmoderated platform. The
general idea is to keep scrolling or use filters if you prefer not to
see something. Not whine about what you personally find offensive.
You want Facebook. That's a nice happy place for people like you.

On the other hand, do you think that I care about what you do or don't like?

Why are you *SO* sensitive? You get your "feelings" hurt at the
slightest post that I make. Is that why you always leave this group
randomly and come back?

YOU brought up the memes thing and started that conversation, I'm not
"whining" about anything. It's an un-moderated platform, remember?
I'll talk about whatever I wish, whenever I wish to.

The level of your hypocrisy is almost infuriating. Why don't you just
take your own advice, and filter me? Problem solved; then you can get
back to talking about John.
