Well, I got my stimulus check in the mail today.
I was hoping it would be direct deposited but last year's
taxes, I owed money so I didn't include that info.

Oh well, I'll just take a short trip to the bank next time
I get the urge to go that way and deposit it.

Not a bad deal for only skipping a few grocery store trips
in the last 2 months.

Note: I've heard people complaining that his picture
was on it. Who cares?

Anyway, no Donald picture on mine but it does say his name:

Economic Impact Payment
President Donald J. Trump

The picture on it is of the statue of liberty.

My stimulus check was deposited directly into my savings account just as
my federal income tax refund is; so I didn't actually see a 'check.' But
two weeks to the day after it was deposited I did get a letter telling me to
expect to see my money soon.

Talk about the left-hand doesn't know what the right hand is doing!!

Same here. I noticed the letter is on fairly soft paper, so if the TP
situation gets really dire, I have an alternative.

If he's not a heavy cell phone user he can get a GREAT deal on smartphones
on HSN. They have specials on them every month or so but the service is
through TracFone but he doesn't have to stay with TF. Their specials
consist of a new phone plus 1500 minutes of text and talk for the one
price. Always priced well under $200.

Or an unlocked smartphone on Amazon.
I'm using a dual-SIM Nokia 6.1 I bought on Amazon for about $150. The
price has gone up since I bought mine, but it's still reasonable.
I have a US T-Mobile SIM in one slot, and a UK EE SIM in the other.

You could get a pretty good unlocked phone for under $200. I have a Motorola G6. Your bigger problem is getting a carrier that won't try to rip you off. Mostly, if you can get a plan for under $50, you're lucky. I pay about 30 bucks a month.

Agreed. Plenty of free recipes on the web. Of course you have to be
a little careful about your sources.

Not necessarily smirky. A smile with a wink. Like, we're both in on the

Whenever I look up a recipe on the web, I will look at several
as all are different. Many times I'll pick and choose
ingredients from several.

When I say "smirky" I mean joking. Whenever I use that, it's
to let people know that what I said is not quite serious.

About the only thing I look at a recipe for is oven temperature and

Check out HSN (Home Shopping Network) website for TracFone deals.
That's where I got my Samsung smartphone. It came with the 1500
minutes talk and text time and my old phone still had about 300
minutes left and that rolled into the new phone as well.

The service is good for a year unless you are a heavy user and have
to buy more airtime. I'm not and this past September I renewed my
service without adding any extra minutes for another year for $50.

Yeah, but you really should stop using the speaker phone. Sounds like

you don't want to hold the phone. :)

I haven't gotten my "stimulus" check yet but no matter, it's already
spent. I paid my homeowner's insurance. When the check is [direct]
deposited it will almost make up the difference.

A cell phone, smart or not, is the last thing I'd think about using that
money for.

I don't have a clue whether the smart meters report in or not. But that
number to report an outage is on the bill for a reason. However, I would
not trust the meter to report an outage since it took two weeks for the
power company to show up at my door with a new meter telling me my old
meter had not sent a signal for two weeks.

Well AT&T decided to go digital here at least two years ago. Hate the
damn service since when the power goes there goes your phone as well. I
had to dig out the cell phone and thankfully I had charged it earlier
in the evening.

When the tornado ripped through here back on March 3 I had to go to the
car to charge my cell phone. I don't know what the folks with older
cars without power outlets did to charge their phones.

I've got a friend who has one of those expensive iPhones and the reception
is as shitty as using two tin cans and string. Garbled at times, fades in
and fades out; I don't experience that with a landline.

It could be their location and proximity to towers. My son was living
in the upstairs apartment of a house right on the shore of Lake Ontario.
He had a couple different phones in the time he lived there but the
service sucked. He used to have to go out for walks to make calls, or
wait until he went out in the car (hands free). Last year he moved
about three miles east of there and and two blocks from the lake. The
service was a little better. Two weeks ago he moved back to the other
end of the city and is three blocks from the lake. That wold put him on
the same tower as the first location. The service is better than it used
to be, but still fades occasionally. It is fine when he is in other
locations.

No. It powers almost everything. Not the garages or the clothes dryer.
But we have heat and air-conditioning, refrigeration, and hot water. Lights
and Internet (if Comcast isn't down). If I really want to dry clothing, I can
hang it up somewhere.

Yes, it's connected to our gas line. When it detects a power outage,
it waits 15 seconds and then starts itself up.

I could do without it powering the dryer but definitely would want it to
power the gas furnace since it has an electronic ignition. Of course, I'd
want refrigerator and freezer powered as well. Lights and internet would
be great. Thankfully my water heater and kitchen range are gas but the
oven needs electricity to turn on the solenoid that lights the glow bar.

The air conditioner draws quite a bit of current. I doubt any car battery

In the second house we owned, some previous owner had run zip cord through

Proof positive that a house doesn't have to be code-compliant to be insured

Actually, Oliver made the electricity combination plan and
taught it to Lisa. I watched the episode when he taught her.

I love that old show. It's so silly, many things are actually
funny. It's shown here five nights a week. I rarely watch
an entire show but I will at least check it out each night.
My favorite episodes are the ones that feature Arnold the pig.

If you consider 100,000 watt-hours of power to be trivial, then you need a better power company.

I saw that he did. End of Green Acres show they had a
memorial about him that day.

Ken Osmond, who played Eddie Haskell on 'Leave It To Beaver', just passed at the age of 76...

That was a nice gesture. And I did not know he lived here in Nashville
until I read of his death.
