"wic card", John...???

"Am I Eligible for WIC?

https://www.fns.usda.gov/wic/applicant-recipient

The Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants, and Children (WIC) provides
federal grants to states for supplemental foods, health care referrals, and nutrition education
for low-income pregnant, breastfeeding, and non-breastfeeding postpartum women, and to
infants and children up to age 5 who are found to be at nutritional risk.

Categorical Requirement

The WIC program is designed to serve certain categories of women, infants and children. Therefore, the following individuals are considered categorically eligible for WIC:

Women

Pregnant (during pregnancy and up to 6 weeks after the birth of an infant or the end of the pregnancy
Postpartum (up to six months after the birth of the infant or the end of the pregnancy)
Breastfeeding (up to the infant's first birthday)
Infants (up to the infant's first birthday)
Children (up to the child's fifth birthday)"

It's actually a SNAP card. John is just demented. His brain
is dying. The FAILURE went from inheriting almost a half a
million dollars to needing PUBLIC ASSISTANCE to afford
food in only 5 or 6 years. What a FAILURE. He's a worthless
parasite, no better than a leech, a mosquito or a tick.

If John weren't a LOSER, he could be eating this.
https://www.flickr.com/photos/36178182@N08/53030448875/in/dateposted-public/
In fact, he could have BOTH STEAKS! That's because no
one wants to go camping with him. No one.

WAIT!! UNLESS John has become a woman. On no. He'd
have to be pregnant or breastfeeding. Maybe he could
pass for a child. Ah, but he'd have to be under 5, and he's
more like 3rd or 4th grade. SNAP it is then.

John's brain doesn't work right. It never did, but it has
gotten much worse over the last decade or so. John
is on a different public assistance food program called
SNAP (formerly known as Food Stamps). John is a
loser. He inherited almost a half a million dollars, and
now he is on *food welfare*. He is a worthless piece

Actually it's called an EBT card. With it, you can also get some
chicken if you'd like, or ham. The letter would explain how long it is
until you have to recertify. You can do that by mail with a copy of

Kuthe likely won't exceed the threshold.

IIRC somebody else set everything up so he'd even get Social Security.
They may have checked the "withhold taxes" box for him.

The above statement was brought to us straight from an asshole troll. I
got my info straignt from the same source you did, Cindy, ssa.gov. The
first paragraph right before what you quoted states:

"Some of you have to pay federal income taxes on your Social Security
benefits. This usually happens only if you have other substantial income
in addition to your benefits (such as wages, self-employment, interest,
dividends and other taxable income that must be reported on your tax
return)."

(Keywords: "some of you".) Followed by what you pointed out, Cindy:

> "Between $25,000 and $34,000, you may have to pay income tax on up
> to 50 percent of your benefits. More than $34,000, up to 85 percent of

Social Security is taxable and removed before issuing the check. John
went on Social security sometime last month or maybe the month before.
He's doubtless going to get all of it back when he files his taxes.

I don't think it's optional to have the federal taxes deducted anymore.

Probably. I don't recall it being optional when Don filed for social
security but then his military retirement puts him over the line.

Check it out. John did not earn enough income vis Social Security in a
few months to require him to file taxes. A couple of months' worth of
Social Security is negligible and does not mean he's going to get a refund.

The tax filing status for a man of his age is:

"A taxpayer must file a return if their gross income was at least:
single under 65 $12,950"

There is no way in hell he earned enough money to file taxes.

Also according to the IRS:

"People may want to file even if they make less than the filing
threshold, because they may get money back. This could apply to them if
they:

Have had federal income tax withheld from their pay

Made estimated tax payments

Qualify to claim tax credits like:
Earned income tax credit
Child tax credit
American opportunity tax credit
Credit for federal tax on fuels
Premium tax credit
Health coverage tax credit
Credits for sick and family leave
Child and dependent care credit"

John does not meet any of the qualifications. You really need to stop
saying he should expect to get a tax refund.

Lots of speculation. Yes, it is optional. There is no reason for taxes
to be taken out for him as he does not earn enough. I don't have any
tax withheld from SS and I exceed the 25K threshold as I do it on my
other income.

From SSA:
You will pay federal income taxes on your benefits if your combined
income (50% of your benefit amount plus any other earned income) exceeds
$25,000/year filing individually or $32,000/year filing jointly. You can
pay the IRS directly or have taxes withheld from your payment.

My wife and I do not have any income tax deducted from our Old Age and
CPP. We usually end up both having to pay, but she has one of her
pensions deposited directly to a separate account. When we file our
taxes we go to directly to the bank and pay. We figure that money is
better in our hands than in the government's.

We do, because we have considerable taxable income derived from
rollovers from our regular IRAs to our Roth IRAs. We also have taxes
withheld from those transactions. I don't want to have to cough up
10 grand in taxes when we file our return.

Clearly, even though we've been living on SSI and our cash savings for
18 months, I don't know jack about being poor.

Grin, I'm with you on the taxes. One year my state did something funny
so we didn't get his deduction for being over 65. Had to pay over 5k.
They fixed it the next year but I've always had problems if I don't pay
extra because they don't do a good job separate streams of taxable
income from 22 adults filing jointly.

I did multiple excess deductions until I hit 650 a month for combined
state and federal. That is still there in retirement. Hard to say how
much my return will be but I was still working the first 3 months of it.

Living on 2 military retirements and Don's social security plus a tiny
federal pension (only 6 years and 4months so doesn't add up to much a
month).
