Did the bad weather pass you by or are you in the middle of it? I
checked with my daughter and the big storm missed her but she is
getting the cold weather and ice. So how are you ladies holding up?
From what I have seen on the Weather Channel driving is really iffy.
Take care and check in with us, O.K,?

We had about 6 inches of snow last week end. Wednesday it poured,
absolutely poured most of the day then the temperatures plummeted
and they predicted lots of ice. Thursday morning I had an eye doctor
appointment but streets were clear but it never got over 24° and quite
windy. It's pretty here today but still breezy and only about 33°.

I did see on the news that sometime this past week that Spartanburg,
SC even got snow!!

You seem to have a lot of eye doctor appts.

I only lived in Greenville from Dec 25th to May 5th, but we got snow
twice there of ~3 inches. I was expecting it to be more - it didn't
last long either time.

Heck, we got 5-7" snow last year in Austin on February 15th and that
lasted over a week. And we're 5-degrees more South than
Spartanburg.

On Monday we had a foot and a half of snow. The next day it warmed up
to almost 40 degrees so a lot of it melted, and then in the afternoon it
plummeted. Luckily our driveway was cleared out enough that it all
melted before the big freeze.

I was worried about an eye appointment yesterday. I thought I was going
to be dilated. That would have meant driving west near sun down with all
that snow to reflect the bright setting sun. As it turned out, I was
not dilated for this one. I have to go back for a consultation on
Wednesday.

Thank goodness for Covid protocols. Show up in time for your appointment
5 minutes early, they see you right away. Pre covid I often had to wait
two hours or more for appointments.

An inch or two down there would cause as much chaos as a foot does to
us. That foot and a half.... that really messed things up.

Some are eye exams, some are glaucoma checks, and this one was for
'dry eyes.' I can't say that I've really noticed any dry eye problems but the
scrub and eye drops he gave me have seemed to sooth my eyes and they
do feel better. But then again, I didn't think I had a problem.

Head to Walmart or Walgreens and buy some of those sunglasses that go
over you regular glasses and shuts out all the sunlight. I also wear these
when I bike ride as they stop the wind from drying out my eyes.

I went to an ophtamologist about a fat deposit on the side of my eye and
that was monitored for a couple years before the doc determined it was
not growing and nothing needed to be done. However, I did have dry eye,
which was likely because I had had a chilazion, a cyst in a plugged tear
duct. The surgery for that left me short a tear duct.

The treatment was pretty simple. He told me to use Sustane eye drops
daily. I usually forget. When my eye starts to bother me I put a drop or
two in. It does such a good job that I don't need it again for a few days.

A downpour after almost 20" of snow would have been a disaster. The snow
was blocking all the drains.

I am wary of double sun blocking. I have a fairly dark prescription
sunglasses. I was out on the motorcycle with a friend a couple years ago
and was wearing the sunglasses and, because of the low setting sun I had
the dark helmet visor down. I was stopped at a bad intersection, coming
out on a curve and a downhill to the left. I thought it was clear and
started out and then realized there was a big black bus with tinted
windshield coming up the hill and around the bend. I slammed on the
brake and had to push myself back really fast.

I do like these as they block out any light creeping in around the sides
after dilation. Also, when riding my bike they're simply great to keep
my eyes from drying out. I found that out the first time I was riding and
was enjoying the wind in my face until I got home. Twenty minutes later
my eyes felt like they were on fire and dry as a bone. I used a LOT of eye
drops that day for several hours.

A hard lesson learned but not forgotten.

My part of Virginia Beach (right near the ocean) got about 4 inches of
snow Friday night. First time in many years. Carol lives several miles
inland from me and may or may not have gotten more.

Back when this pandemic thing started up we were told to wash our hands
before touching our eyes. I thought at the time that was going to be a
problem because I had a dry eye and my fingers spends a couple hours a
day rubbing my eye.
