I just looked at my phone log to see when it was I called him, and
it was exactly a month ago (July 8th). And looked at my outbox and I
stand by my recollections being 100% accurate:
"I told him that the RFC group (what?).... the usenet group.... you
know, the rec.food.cooking group? (Oh, Yeah) was worried about him
since he usually posts dozens of times a day. I said they were
making up all sorts of crazy stories about what happened to you.
He's cooking garlic potatoes for breakfast and I could hear him
chopping in the background. I told him that's not his "Standard
breakfast, I thought it Asiago cheese bagel from Panera?".
He says Google won't allow him to post. After a few more questions I
said it sounded like his browser lost his login cookies and he just
needed to manually log in on the upper right again. He said it
always did it for him automatically.
I also found out that he has a degree in computer engineering school
and has been on the internet since ARPANET days. He has a really old
Windows XP laptop and a Mac-in-trash, and something about "Steve
Gates", but never once did he ask me who I was. I asked him,
"You're not at all curious who this is calling you?" (twice) - He
brushed that off and I re-iterated my technical support advice to
just log in manually, that I'd let everybody know he's still alive,
and we all wished him well. "OK, Bye!"
EOS. I shit you not.
I think we should all give him a call! You won't regret it!"
