😀 I should have used alt.test, but I want to see if I can create a
emoji using slrn, and I'm already here. Did I? I'll know if I did.
Thank you for your patience, and carry on. ;) or 🤙🏻

And a fist-bump to you! I noticed a couple replies that didn't evoke the
emojis.
"<ED><A0><BD><ED><B8><80>" and "" for the happy face.

It must be a character set thing. They know who they are.

Oh, I found the "give the finger" and "pointing at you" emoji, but I can't
find the "poop" emoji. Sometimes, those could be useful, in order, for
one particular poster. ;)

Mac's don't have emojis that you can right click on an area of the screen and you
get a box with different options? Some of the options are voice typing, emojis,
and paste.

I haven't really researched emojis, but bringing up the emoji menu on a
current Mac is control-command-space bar. I learned that a couple of
days ago.
I just did a Siri-query and was directed to the Emojipedia. That's
enough for now. I'm an old dog. These are new tricks. ;)
You, GM and a couple of others made me curious, because I started seeing
emojis pop up on my newsreader, some time ago. I wondered if I could
send them. I can. Depending upon the newsreader character set, some
can't...I assume.

The first one is the f-bomb, the second one is "you" and the "b"
stands for "buddy"? I don't know who the person is. It can't be me
because I thought we were getting along pretty well, in spite of our
differences of opinion.

It did, for some. I'm under the impression that it won't, for some.
I'm a bit sorry that I brought it up. I just thought that my newsreader
was archaic and wanted to try something new after wondering why I could
see emojis within it.
Let's go back to regular posting, shall we?

I have never used an emoji and hope never to do so, but I did test
your suggestion and it worked. I was not expecting it to work
because most things I try don't work, so I was pleasantly surprised.
Too bad it wasn't for something I actually care about. But still it
worked and that alone made me feel good - maybe for the rest

You're right, he is more nuts than us. More nuts then me, that's
for sure. I don't want to see people killed raped, I only want to
read about it. It's more relaxing that way. I don't like getting too
close to the screen of life. Know what I mean? Some might say
I'm GM but without GMs guts. But then we really don't know GM,
do we? I'll bet he's not at all for watching a bunch of people getting
slaughtered and raped. He may even not want to see it on film.
But reading about it is different. It goes down easy. You can always
fling the paper down and walk away. Plus if anyone asks why you
didn't do something to stop the violence you can always say, "Because
I wasn't there, man - I only read about it." That's my approach. But
when I am there I do sometimes do something about it. I have saved
people from getting hurt, more than just once. But to read about it
in papers would not bother me as much.

I am a vicarious vulture

May be used to represent feces and other bathroom topics as well as stand in for their many related slang terms. It also enjoys a wide range of idiosyncratic applications, such as conveying a sense of whimsy or silliness, given its fun, happy expression.

I understand the purpose of emojis, I'm just not a fan no matter how "Idiosyncratic"
their "applications" might be. If people want to use emojis to express themselves
that's fine with me. I'm not going to war over it. But I don't typically pay attention
to them. I also tend, most of the time, to give short shrift to quotes from famous
people used at the end of posts to somehow verify their importance. I clicked on
a few keys as someone suggested the other day to see a list of emojis suddenly
appear on the screen. I was not expecting it to work. Anyway, to me they all sort
of looked alike no matter what they were designed to represent, as one guy
invented them all and will one day be as popular and renowned as Van Gogh or
Picasso to the point where experts are called in to verify the emoji work as legit.
Just like with jewels or paper money, delicate eye magnifiers will be used by
professional emoji experts hired to verify their source. "Is it a phony or do
you think the 'real guy' did this one?"

Man, what a waste of words you just now directed at dsi1 when a single
emoji could have covered it all. But it has to be a top notch emoji created
by a top notch emoji master. They exist but they cost a bunch. In the
meantimes you'll have to be satisfied with common emojis used by other
people. The day will come when emojis are more than enough to properly
express our thoughts. Words are flawed, we all know that. They are on
their way out. Eventually even emojis will disappear as we evolve to the
point where we are able to communicate telepathically before evolving
further into a state where communication is not needed at all and is
considered an intrusion on our serene solitude.

Your newsreader converts some emoticons into emojis. I had typed a ";"
and a ")", and your reader created a winkey face emoji. Your newsreader
rendered the actual emojis I used into those rectangular blocks.
I have always typed emoticons in the past. In general, I will keep
that up in the future.
You should be able to read :), :( and ;) as emojis, but I typed them as
two character emoticons.
I'm pretty sure you have a cellphone. That's where emojis thrive.
But you knew that.

Yes, the standard text ones all work well. Leo, the funny thing is,
that I used to work for Apple Care tech support, as recently as 2016.
It's funny, because I still don't have a smart phone; yet I can probably
still troubleshoot them -- just don't ask me anything about an Android
phone!

I must have done well, because I was promoted to supporting Mac
computers within months, which are much more complex beasts than the
mobile phones. (I've still don't have a Mac). I'd probably still work
there, had Apple not ended the contract with the vendor I worked for.

I don't care one way or the other. I roll with the times a lot
easier than you want to believe. I have all my life. I'm just
saying the emoji is just more dumbing down in Blurbsville,
like on Facebook when someone announces a death in the
family and the same set of condolences pour in from all: "She
will be missed." "Our prayers are with you", and so forth, on
down the line. Now in these cases I can see emojis as being
just as good if not better than the words. I am a fair minded
person. I can type 70 minutes a minute. That's nothing special
but faster than most. I sometimes forget how much of a chore
it might be for some people to type their thoughts. Some may
struggle to write a small paragraph, so from them it's a gift to
others. I get it. But the emojis as they stand right now suck.
They are very unimaginative but serve a purpose in a world
were people don't really want to communicate but do so
sparingly to keep a long line of people on hold for when the
mood strikes. I don't give a shit what they do with the language.
I'm no grammarian. Go with the flow. I just think the emojis
lack imagination, just like the people who use them.

You say that a lot: "And you are ignoring." Why do you say I'm
ignoring something? Simply because I didn't mention it. I am not
ignoring anything and am as much in tune with what's going down
in this world, if not more so. What is your problem? Can't you respond

"If people want to use emojis to express themselves that's fine with me. I'm not going to war over it. But I don't typically pay attention to them."

In my book not paying attention to something means you're ignoring something.
I understand that you sometimes like to be on both sides of an issue but I don't blame me if I don't know what the fuck you're trying to say.

Wow, you're really desperate for an argument, aren't you? Interpreting
words as you see fit in order to validate an argument. I see my words
as you quoted them as pretty tame. Even level headed. Come on man,
be honest for a change - you know very well when a person says they
don't "typically pay attention" to something, it doesn't mean they never
paid it any mind to it at all. I have seen enough emojis to know I don't
care for them. I'm not trying to have them outlawed or voting for those
who use them to be summarily executed. If you don't know what I'm
saying there's a good chance it's because you don't want to. Either
that or maybe I just don't have anything to say. Whatever. It's not
just you - it's almost all of you, very hung up on factoids and technical
bullshit most of the time - incapable or unwilling or most likely unable
to use your imagination. You've got one, you know. It may be weak
from misuse, but I'm guessing you've got one. Not as good as mine
though. I'm an intuitive scientist, man - I flow on vibes, not a bunch
of words although I admit I do enjoy using them. So fucking what?
