You rented a room in the same house you own now from the cheap Chinese
landlord.

In hindsight, you could have kept renting and let him pay for all the
repairs AND let him worry about renting out the other rooms. If that,
your inheritance would have lasted you the rest of your life with plenty
leftover to play with.

At least you can sell it if you ever can't maintain it.

My Cheap Landlord would have NEVER fixed up this house. They (he and a Chinese moneyed interest) picked it up cheap on Foreclosure in 2008, put $30,000 into it to get it to pass an occupancy permit and then piped mostly Chinese students through it for their profit!

And where did that Chinese money interest get his money? From MalWart and the stupid United Statesians who shop there!

How am I unsuccessful? Sure, I'm a bit overweight, and I drink more beer
than I probably ought to, but I have a super sexy wife, own two houses
outright, have a credit rating over 800, a job that I don't dislike, and I'll be
able to retire comfortably at 65. I've gotten to be in original bands that
have played kick-ass live shows, and I've written a novel. Whatever the
fuck anyone thinks about the book, it has been a very gratifying thing for
me.

So, Dave, just how am I unsuccessful?

"housemates" for a few years. Bragged about them. Now that everything
