They locked up all that other stuff but left some copper out?

Why just that little bit? Is that your $9K worth of copper gutters?

You missed Steve's point. I guess you don't realize copper is a very
expensive metal. Unscrupulous people have been known to break into
construction sites and steal it. Why did they leave that roll of copper
sitting out? If I were you I'd lock it in the basement. They've
already charged you for it; it's your copper.

In unguarded buildings scavengers steal the copper plumbing. Plumbers
don't use copper tubing anymore, they use plastic tubing now. They no
longer use solder, plastic tubing is connected with compression
fittings, faster, cheaper, and not toxic.

Paints don't adhere well to copper... as copper oxidizes paints flake
off... also different temperature coefficients... copper expands and
contracts more rapidly than paint as temperature changes.

Exactly and why would one paint it? Like painting gold jewelry so no
one will know it's gold. There is plenty of factory coated black gutter
around for probably 1/10 the cost of copper. The patina of copper is
beautiful though.

Some people like to paint and nip and tuck everything. I have a slat
rusty steel fence and it looks great rusty. Will take years for it to
rust through.

Similar to this one but rather than hardwood mine is 3/16 " steel strap
on 4x4 steel post and it's all rusting nicely.

You just gave me a chilling idea. I'm sure that the technology to build
miniaturized cooling systems is advanced enough to make a fairly light
cooling helmet with face bubble just for dehumidifying breathing air
*and* keeping a cool head.

Piezoelectric transducers in your special boots would provide power.

Heck, add in some blinking lights and I guaranteed, even if the
contraption didn't make you feel cool, it would surely make you cool-
looking.

I'm thinking of making it in steampunk style, although I'm not sure if
that means I can blow off a bit of steam once in a while.

Some paints adhere very well to copper, like the black paint they originally painted on the original copper guttering on this house, which Old World Roofing is reproducing for my house. I got an email from the guy in their shop asking me if I had any storage location requirements for the new guttering when it's delivered. I told him just to put it wherever it would be most out of the way.

In other words, we will figure it out when it gets delivered.

The only thing that bothers me is the routing of the steam conduits from
each leg. It seems from an engineering point of view that joining them
together would be perilously close to where our legs come together.

Probably this would not be a good place for the steam over-pressure
release stop-cock. (And sorry about that ominous engineering term at the
end of the previous sentence.

(You did volunteer to be the first model for the prototype.)

In other words he's informed you, you are responsible for keeping the
copper safe and secure once its on your premises. He knows copper
theft is common where you live.

Scrap thieves keep an eye on local building sites and you have tipped
them off by your loose-mouth boasting. Now they know a consignment of
very valuable copper is about to be delivered to your well-publicised
address.

They are no doubt watching your place and as soon as its delivered and
left lying about "out of the way" they'll come back in the night to
collect it.

Most here mow with diesel tractors, they emit very little noise and
it's low pitched, lower decibels than many family cars and pick ups.
The loudest early morning noise makers here are roosters, woodpeckers,
and other critters... geese and crows are noisey too but short term.
At night the frogs serenade. There's no inceccsant dog barking here,
no one leaves their dog out, they know it'd soon become some
preditor's meal.

Diesel fuel is still burn fossil fuels! A large part of what allowed us Homo Sapiens to cause the 6th Great Extinction event here on our happy little planet! The 6 mile wide meteor 65 million years ago wiped out the dinosaurs, allowing mammals to take over the planet and look what we mammals sprung 65 million years later! The 6th Planetary Extinction Event! Dinosaurs were the 5th and that was a very bad day on Earth! Wer took only about 300 years! ;-)
