Hopefully she will file a police report for you stalking and harassing her...

Only if you had been stalking her would you have been in Walmart.
And she hiding there because she knew that was the only place you'd
never patronize.

OK, I've been lazy about paying for a newsserver, but this impersonating crap
is out of control. I'm working short days this week, and I should put my Win7
drive in, and say, "Fuck this Linux that doesn't take advantage of the absurd
amount of RAM I mistakenly bought." I don't even know what "neodome spam"
is, but I gather that those of you who use real newsreaders can positively ID
regulars by headers.

I would like to get low priced news, as I have no interest in binaries, and don't
want to pay for binaries access.

Neodome is free and doesn't require any registration, just like aoei.
So it's used by the biggest mental patients, but also by friendly,
positive people like me.

Otherwise, just get a 1 TB block somewhere for $10 or so. You'll be
set for life (or for the life of the provider).

$1.99 will buy you a lifetime of Usenet news access. I still have 7
gigs of my 10 gigs left after 11 years.

In my case I got a deal on Giganews when my ISP quit providing. Others
are cheaper but this one is about 2$ a month.

For newsreaders, TB is supposed to be tops but xananews is a lot easier
to setup. Having setup both, I can tell you that. If nothing else,
turning on headers is a snap in Xananews (and it's free).

Pretty sure Xananews does Linux. Newserver is OS independent or the
reader of course.

I have a blocknews account. It was pretty cheap but I abandoned that account years ago. Google groups is free, faster, and more transportable, than that old technology.

Fewer desirable features, though. You get what you pay for, and Google groups
is just about worth $0.

Did anyone ever figure out why the sound effect they used for the aircars

Why pay even that? Eternal September is free and very reliable.
Granted they have less retention and no binary groups (or very little).
Usenet is almost dead now. I sure wouldn't pay for it.

And Thunderbird works fine for reading Usenet (and email)

I used Blocknews because the other Usenet services were spotty. My guess is that these days, the NNTP network is a bit more robust because of the advent of cloud servers and virtual machines rather than funky old computers in some post-hippie pothead's machines in their mom's basement. OTOH, NNTP just doesn't make much sense in my world of the future thinking so Blocknews gets to benefit from the five bucks that I paid them about a decade ago. Selling vouchers to people that never use them is a pretty good business practice.

Same here. E/S stared out great but then there were connection problems.

The only problem I have with T/Bird is sometimes irritating "not
responding" messages. Probably need to upgrade the RAM on this laptop
(which I use as a desktop). Still, it's better than Google anything!
