Had to uninstall corrupt version the other day.
Then installed the newest version but I see it's really messing up.

My headers are messed up and today...Many posts are all combined in one,
just my responses. WTH?

I'll deal with this later

This is why I don't let Thunderbird automatically update anything. Good
luck! (not being snarky)

I have been having problems with it too. I occasionally post something
and it never shows up. Sometimes it will appear in my Sent folder,
sometimes in the Drafts folder, and sometimes it just disappears.
Curiously, most of the time when I check immediately it appears in the
group. It's enough to make me a little paranoid.

I've had post not get sent. Sometimes I can just hit Ctrl E to bring it
up and send again, other times it just won't go. I thought it may have
been Blocknews but I guess not.

You should install Google Groups on your computer. Come over to the Dark Side, Garry and together we can bring order to the Usenet-verse and rule together as father and son. Of course, I'm Darth Vader - you're just going to have to be Luke.

Google Groups does not require "installation". Google Groups sucks. No
filters, no spam retardants. In fact, all the retarded SPAM that shows
up (both here and in anyone's email inbox) comes from Google Groupers
and people with gmail addresses.

The spam I see here are drug sellers, 'dating' sites, and the occasional online
manuals being peddled. I get no spam from any of these sites or any other
sites on this address.

GM is a special case. The reality is that Google Groups will not turn a poster into a spamming maniac. Only the poster can do that. Of course, a lot of rfc'ers are afraid of life, technology, and the future. They will cling tightly to their old newsreaders until it crumbles and turns to dust.

No. She's saying that 99% of the spam that arrives in rfc has come
through Google Groups, with a gmail.com return address. It's why I've
blacklisted gmail.com addresses (and whitelisted the two or three
that are legit rfc members).

Let's see what has washed up recently.

No. You're wrong.
My guess is that most of the spam is being put out by law enforcement agencies.

My experience is the same. I never get spam on the working
email address. I do not think a core of a few dozen NNTP
users is enough to entice a real spammer.

On the other hand, web traffic to my web-site, which is linked
in my NNTP 'organization' header, shows that we are being
'followed' by certain entities & agencies by our NNTP headers.

It's hard to say where all the spam is coming from because some servers
block a lot of it. I had a hotmail account for a while but ditched it
because of the overwhelming amount of spam. I could download mail and
get 40 or more new emails and all but one or two were spam. I imagine
that they dealt with that but I can't say for sure. I just gave up on them.

Princess Jill should "take a care on her head", as Unca Tojo might go " chop chop " to her silly head with his Samurai sword...!!!

https://rarehistoricalphotos.com/leonard-siffleet-sword-1943/

Leonard Siffleet about to be beheaded with a sword by a Japanese soldier, 1943

"Leonard Siffleet was an Australian Special Forces radio operator, sent on a mission to Papua New Guinea to establish a coast watching station.

In September 1943, his patrol was sent to Japanese-held New Guinea, to recon the Japanese forces stationed there. Siffleet and two other Australian soldiers were captured by local natives friendly to the Japanese and turned over to the Japanese.

All three men were interrogated, tortured, and confined for approximately two weeks before being taken down to Aitape Beach on the afternoon of 24 October 1943.

Bound and blindfolded, surrounded by Japanese and native onlookers, they were forced to the ground and executed by beheading, on the orders of Vice-Admiral Michiaki Kamada of the Imperial Japanese Navy. The officer who executed Siffleet, Yasuno Chikao, detailed a private to photograph him in the act..."

It's a wonder the thought police have not attacked that label and being
racist of culturally insensitive. That thought occurred to be about 25
years ago when I went out to the west coast to visit some friends.
There was an opinion piece in the newspaper about a fortified wine named
Skana Red and the label contained an image of a totem pole. The author
was apparently trying to shame the makers of that wine and obviously
marketing it to native people. He figured that they were playing on the
native proclivity for consuming alcohol. I can't say that I disagree
with his opinion that they were aiming for the native market. I viewed
it from the perspective of the more liberal eastern Canada where a
public figure would not want to be got suggesting that the native people
have an alcohol problem.

You may bring bakery items and certain cheeses into the United States. The APHIS Web site features a Travelers Tips section and Game and Hunting Trophies section that offers extensive information about bringing food and other products into the U.S. Many prepared foods are admissible.

However, bush meat made from African wildlife and almost anything containing meat products, such as bouillon, soup mixes, etc., is not admissible.

As a general rule, condiments, vinegars, oils, packaged spices, honey, coffee and tea are admissible.

Because rice can often harbor insects, it is best to avoid bringing it into the United States. Some imported foods are also subject to requirements of the U.S. Food and Drug Administration.

Its very hard to prevent Thunderbird from updating itself. You
must be getting nag screens twice a day, it wanting to install an
upgrade which it already downloaded...

I hate this trend of forced updates. Worse, they then go to great
lengths to make sure you can't thwart that process under the guise
of "It's better for you this way". Yeah, fuck you, too.

This is very true.
With Window 10 (vs Windows 7)
1) Microsoft forces you to update
2) Thunderbird constantly asks (several times a day)
3) Same thing with Firefox - constantly asks several times a day

There seems to be no way to "just say NO" once and be rid of the nagging.

As regards Windows updates, I had such a mess after an update once (me
and reportedly about 40,000 others) that my guru has set my machine so
that it only does the updates after they have been issued some 40
days. That satisfies MS plus if there is anything bad in it, it has
been solved by then. This is working far better then allowing the
updates when MS chooses.

It seems to me that the greatest trouble comes from waiting until
several updates have gone by and then updating.

Just get the updates as they're released and it's quite likely you won't
have any trouble at all.

I might just give that a try soon.
I've never had trouble with the required MS10 updates.

If they're fixing it, then it was broken--maybe in some way you

I just got a Thunderbird Update request. I clicked to get more info
about it. One of the things they "fixed" is:

"Calendar events with timezone America/Mexico_City incorrectly applied
Daylight Savings Time". It's a fix, but it isn't necessary for everyone
who uses Thunderbird. I had no idea Mexico City was on Daylight Savings
time. LOL

One of the things. Did you look at the list of security fixes?

https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/security/advisories/mfsa2023-15/

Some of those don't apply to you, of course, but here's a good one:

"Memory safety bugs fixed in Thunderbird 102.10."

"Some of these bugs showed evidence of memory corruption and we presume
that with enough effort some of these could have been exploited to run
arbitrary code."

"Arbitrary code" is geek-speak for viruses or other malware.

I've never seen it do that before. Perhaps that was released in a newer
version. I unchecked the updates whatever setting years ago, and it has
been running smoothly for over a decade. Version 3.1.20

I'm running the latest Thunderbird: 102.10.0 (64-bit).

You're missing a whale of a lot of security updates. But if you want to
walk around the Internet with your pants down, go right ahead.

It's time for me to upgrade to a new version of Fedora. The one I'm
running will be end-of-lifed in 11 days.

Windows patches itself endlessly, and ends up being more patch than
anything else. No wonder it's unstable and buggy.

LOL... I don't do anything sensitive like banking on the computer. I
use Thunderbird for personal E-mail and Usenet. They change the
interface on the new versions too much.

Works like a charm... well, some E-mail messages glitch with an error
message depending on the content; the graphic ones from companies.
That's not enough reason for me to change up everything and deal with
more issues, though. I highly doubt I could just install an update to
version 100-something; I'd probably have to uninstall the whole thing
and mess up all of my E-mail and Usenet stuff.

By best estimates, about $20 billion worth of oil was stolen from Nigeria in 2022 alone, a staggering sum on
its own, especially considering the Nigerian government only took in $22 billion in tax revenue that year.

The Nigerian government’s oil revenues dropped from 47% of the budget in 2017 to an annualized 7.4% in the
first half of 2022.

Mostly due to theft, oil as a total percentage of the economy fell from 13% in 2010 to under 6% in 2023.

So, despite having an enormous amount of oil, the Nigerian people see little benefit. Oil profits are basically
split between criminal gangs and corrupt politicians (but I repeat myself) who waste the oil money through
corrupt patronage networks.

But wait! Nigeria’s oil situation gets worse.

Nigeria imports nearly all of its fuel (ie. refined oil) today. Back in 2012, it imported 70%. This seems like a
terrible idea for a country that produces an enormous amount of oil. Crude oil is valuable, but refined oil is
more valuable (about 46% more valuable at the time of writing this).

Nigeria used to profitably refine most of its oil, but since at least the early 2010s, the Nigerian government’s
four massive oil refineries have almost completely been out of commission, not due to terrorism or natural
disasters, ***but due to lack of maintenance***.

Recall – Nigeria has at least 220 million people. Even with a huge proportion of them being dirt poor,
Nigerians still use a lot of fuel.

Hence, Nigeria’s lack of fuel self-sufficiency is an enormous unnecessary drain on the economy.

Nigeria exports pretty much all of its oil and then buys it right back as fuel because state-run companies were
too incompetent to maintain their own refineries.
