My husband likes cheese on his sloppy joes. I never saw the point.

I prefer my coleslaw on the side, so I'd pass on today's Dataw lunch
special.

That was my first thought!

They also seem to be very fond of "wraps". At least this time it was
not a *spinach* tortilla. ;)

> Who's in charge over there anyway? ;-)

LOL They just hired a new chef but he doesn't start until August 1st.
The last one after Chef Penn was promoted from within but he only lasted
about 8 months... so quick I never caught his name.

The new guy is Matthew Felix. Looking him up he's on Linked In:

https://www.linkedin.com/in/matt-felix-2439602b

Maybe, just maybe, he'll come up with something new.

I've never understood pulled pork topped with coleslaw. In a tortilla
makes even less sense.

Agreed. I think they're grasping at straws because they're between
chefs at the moment. There's bound to be a notebook somewhere in the
kitchen with some old "specials". Please don't try to get creative. It
doesn't work. :)

It wouldn't be my preference either but I can see going with a small
wrap/tortilla as opposed to a more carb laden bread, if that matters to a
person. But then I could also see just using romaine leaves for the wrap if
that's a consideration and I for one would like that. I wouldn't use sauce
on that wrap though, but a little tart slaw would be nice.

Aren't there two schools of thought on the subject? You can always
have coleslaw on the side. I like coleslaw with it (no preference
between on the plate or in the bun - I like it both ways)... but mine
is made with a sweet & sour dressing (not a creamy one). The idea of
putting Southern style pulled pork dressed with BBQ sauce in a
tortilla wrap is just plain weird. Carnitas, yes. BBQ, no.

Exactly! coleslaw is good for me (but not Jill). The american cheese
part is just weird. Not something you would expect from a supposedly
nice restaurant with a "good" chef.

These "chefs" are all trying to create something "new". I am happy when
I find a joint that just does some of the old standards very nicely.

Sort of like architects, creating hideous monstrosities that are "new

Pulled pork with a bit of sauce and topped with coleslaw on a bun is the
best way to eat it, imo. I like almost equal amounts of coleslaw and
pork.

I sure didn't grow up with southern style BBQ or pulled pork, but it
sure impressed me.

That sounds good.

I don't know how many times I have had things like fish and chips in
restaurants that came with a side of cole slaw, and I tried a little of
the cole slaw and left the rest. A couple months ago I had some that
was very finely chopped... very fine... and creamy. I finished it and
wished there was more.

I love cabbage, dislike cole slaw. The reason for that is most coleslaw
dressing I've ever tasted is sweet. Even if I loved it I wouldn't put
it together with BBQ in a flour tortilla with American cheese.

I don't like the sweet version either, but don't have access to Red

sweet.
Do you (or anyone really) have a recipe for not-so-sweet sloppy joe's?
