Hows this for simple?

We had our back section of fence redone (got a good price for the area,
yet still a decent wage for the workers).

We asked they save off 2 of the best looking panels so we could
re-purpose some to be a base for a firewood pile.

They saved off 3 (and asked us if it was too much which is was not).

Don cut them down the center so they are now 4ft wide and 6ft long. We
used 3 for raised planter beds (on cinderblocks). 3 left for our
friend for a woodpile base.

Next purchase will be some more 4ft long by 12inch wide by 11inch deep
containers. These augment 4 existing raised bed units, 3 of which are
fully loaded with green onions, lettuce (2 types), chinese broccoli (2
types), and banana pepper seedlings.

1 'bench' is open for tomatoes in pots. Bell peppers. The new ones get
cucumbers, zuccini or squash, and flowers.

Will everything be in containers ? One problem with raised beds and
container gardening is moisture . You have to water less and more often
because you just don't have the soil mass to hold the water .

Yes all in containers. We line them with legs of old blue jeans which
helps retain water.

Planting in ground is problematic due to run off of neighbors
pesticides. Raised, they are easier to reach and do not have that
issue.

Ah , I see . We're fortunate in our location , the worst thing that
could wash in would probably be squirrel shit . I think I've got a few
more years before bending and getting up and down will be a problem .
