Today is my one year anniversary at work. (Yes, I actually have a JOB!)
I'm off on Fridays so the man I work with said he'll take me to lunch
on Monday to celebrate. His lovely wife will probably join us. They're
very nice people. We'll likely go to Dockside, a seafood restaurant on
Lady's Island. I see she-crab soup in my future. :)

I love this job! I cannot begin to describe how good it feels to do
something enjoyable and interesting and also work with a really nice
guy. We are the same age, so we can relate to each other. Have the
same frame of reference, so to speak. We definitely have the same sense
of humour. That makes it enjoyable. :)

I'm not really thinking about going out to lunch. It would be very
nice, of course. But I have a surprise planned for Monday. Valentine's
Day. Shhhh! I'm bringing some big chocolate Hershey's Kisses to the
office. One for my boss and one for his wife. There are guys who work
as home inspectors across the hall who have become "talk across the
hall" work buddies. They'll each get a a big chocolate Hershey's Kiss,
too. :)

For milk chocolate, I prefer Hershey's. I like the slight sour-milk
tang.

However, I prefer semisweet chocolate for just about everything.
In that case, Ghirardelli is my regular brand.

Yep! Now I just have to figure out how to make S'mores. This is not
something that was ever in my cooking repertoire. I gather the mug is
intended to be filled with hot chocolate/cocoa? This really is out of

I had to look she-crab up, and it sounds good. The only time I've ever

For chocolate bars, I've always loved those big bars with almonds in a
white wrapper. The ones that elementary schools sold as a fundraiser at
least many years ago.

Several weeks ago I bought one of the newer Snickers with a brownie
inside. Sounds like a good combo. Still haven't eaten it.

I also have 2 other chocolates here untried
- a hollow chocolate Easter bunny
- 18 pak of fancy chocolate covered cherries (Christmas gift)

I'll enjoy them someday. I just don't eat candy often.

It's quite ironic that governments assume that there is a mandated "economic slavery" that cannot have a wrench tossed
into it thereby disrupting their wicked plans for control. They assume that the truckers have to keep working no matter
what asinine rules they try to apply, otherwise the truckers start missing truck payments, and possibly get their trucks
repossessed, and end up losing their livelihood. This echoes throughout the economy hurting banks, shippers,
producers, and finally the consumer. I'm all for these truckers and hope they teach their government some manners,
and I hope it does not stop there. It's almost reminiscent of a very well known book, yessiree, Atlas is Shrugging.

Don't get excited about the roe or lack thereof. It's the name of the
soup. It's the addition of a bit of dry sherry added at the end that
makes it taste a little different. The "orange" comes from a bit of
tomato paste.

Here's a recipe but I would really rather let the folks at the
restaurant make it:

Some of you are still stuck in the 1930s.

And you come here, year after year, to bully John Kuthe for crying out
loud, so you're still a loser.

No. Tomato paste is red. A true she crab soup contains real crab roe.
Those are bright orange tiny crab eggs and you'll see a bundle of them
together in the soup. They don't color the soup, they just appear as
small bundles of bright orange eggs in your soup.

Just a crab version of caviar fish eggs.

Yeah, yeah. The recipe calls for tomato paste which, yes, is "red" but
also gives the soup an orange tint. It doesn't make it taste like
tomato soup. You will rarely find she-crab soup on a restaurant menu
even down here that is made with roe. Too limiting on the availability.
Aside from that, Leo lives in NV. He'd have to use <gasp> canned or
frozen crab and it would not be blue crab if he wanted to make this soup.

So you settle for faux she crab soup. I guess that's
appropriate for a faux she crab.

You can buy live blue crabs in St. Louis at the Chinese markets.
Las Vegas has a Chinatown, so they might have them there.
You stuff your maw with canned menudo.

It's actually claimed from any locality that has "blue crabs" available
off their coast. From Delaware south and even into the Gulf.

Popular here too, we generally do a white colored version (no tomato).

For a change, it's glad to see someone who's happy during the work week.

Actually, we get fresh Dungeness crab in months with a "r" in them.
They're way bigger. The next time I buy one, I'll take pictures of the
crab, the breakdown and the finished product.
It dawns on me that February has two "r"s in it.

I think Dungeness crabs are the very best, on a level with a good cold
water lobster. I did see a place online where I could have had a
Dungeness crab delivered, but I choked on the price :)

Dungeness would be a treat! Occasionally I can find frozen Dungeness.
I've never bought any, though.

Stone crab is good, too.

Never have but I always wanted to try Dungeness crabs. The grocery store
sometimes sells them cooked and frozen. I'm assuming they would taste
just blue crabs but larger and easier to pick.

To order some fresh (assuming live), you would have to special order
some, shipped overnight on a bed of ice. That would be quite costly.

Crab meat spoils so quickly. If you don't get them live and kill them
yourself, frozen is the way to go. That really is just as good.
