A guy at work got a bunch of odd snacks sent to him by a buddy who is
stationed in Japan. One of them was a definite no go. Saba Chi turned
out to be blue mackerel chips. Made with 70% blue mackerel. Gag.

This one didn't look too bad:

https://i.postimg.cc/HnnBHKBf/japanese-taro-cheese-snack.jpg

It's made from dried ground taro root with a powdered cheese coating;
sounds rather like Cheetos except it's made with taro rather than corn.

I don't know that I've ever eaten taro, but the fish skins sound rather unappealing.
As stated in another thread I've had the Filippino/Japanese version of green tea
KitKat candy bar. That was pretty bad.

I didn't see any fish skins mentioned.

Yes, that doesn't sound appealing. I love most Asian cuisines, but
most of their sweets are not for me.

Most Americans don't eat taro - except in Hawaii. That's because the taro in Hawaii tastes better than the mainland taro. We like it so much that we recently bought $30 bucks of kulolo. Oh boy!

Taro root is what poi is made from. Very bland starchy, bleh. Drying
and grinding it like corn and adding powdered cheese can only make it
better. :)

I'll open the packet and try this, but only because of the cheese.
Everyone passed on trying the blue mackerel chips.

Maybe it's a good neutral base to add flavour to. A bit like rice,
potato or tofu.

Uncle Tojo, in hiwaya, american tourists will eat dogshit, and pay
big bucks for it. When a hiwayan dog shits, it immediately
transforms into filet mignon.

Lots of folks travel there to buy hearing aides, since the only
person that can program them lives there.

rfc loves to give their 2-cents worth about the taste of foods that they've never tasted. That's the actions of people that have had a limited experience with different foods. The reality is that poi has a distinctive taste. You can eat poi fresh but the old folks like to let it ferment one or two days to develop some tartness. The real hard-core Hawaiians will eat three day old sour poi.

What Does the Bible Say About Gossip and Slander?

A loose tongue sows seeds of division. The gossip and slanderer privately attack their brothers and sisters.
They murder reputations and ministries. They attack sheep Jesus paid for with His blood. They just do it
privately and tend to think little of it. Gossip and slander are the opposite of loving. They are Christianity
without love...

God takes your words very seriously. You will be held responsible for every idle word that comes from your lips...

Have you considered this as you are tempted to light a fire of gossip? Have you thought about how
much Jesus loves the target of your angry slander before it comes forth?

Do you know God can hear you?

BEWARE, Babbler Unca Tojo...!!!

Proverbs 20:19
Whoever goes about slandering reveals secrets; therefore do not associate with a simple babbler...

Titus 3:2
To speak evil of no one, to avoid quarreling, to be gentle, and to show perfect courtesy toward all people...

Matthew 12:36
I tell you, on the day of judgment people will give account for every careless word they speak…

Ephesians 4:29
Let no corrupting talk come out of your mouths, but only such as is good for building up, as fits the occasion, that it may give grace to those who hear...

Psalm 101:5
Whoever slanders his neighbor secretly I will destroy. Whoever has a haughty look and an arrogant heart I will not endure...

Proverbs 17:4
An evildoer listens to wicked lips, and a liar gives ear to a mischievous tongue...

Proverbs 10:18
The one who conceals hatred has lying lips, and whoever utters slander is a fool...

James 3:8
But no human being can tame the tongue. It is a restless evil, full of deadly poison...

1 Timothy 5:13
Besides that, they learn to be idlers, going about from house to house, and not only idlers, but also gossips and busybodies, saying what they should not...

I might try them. They look like they'd be as enjoyable as pork rinds.
Seaweed snacks are good, but a little insubstantial.

They're available locally at one of the many Asian groceries in town.
If I think of it, next time I'm in there I'll check them out.

I'm inclined to agree; I like green tea without any sweeteners.

Then there's seaweed chocolate bars.

Taro chips aren't bad. A little less interesting than potato chips,
if memory serves.

I'll pass on the powdered cheese, though.

The chips are made from shrimp/prawns and tapioca flour. You can buy the uncooked chips and fry them yourself. That's fun to do. If you get a good bag of chips, they'll give your tongue a prickly sensation when you eat them. My guess it's because the chips suck the water off your your tongue when it makes contact.

I did your homework for you:
Ingredients: corn (non-GMO), vegetable oil, sauce, sugar, aonori
seaweed, spices, seasonings (amino acids, etc.), caramel color

I think she's wrong about the snack named after Brussels sprouts. It's named after okonomiyaki pancakes, but not really after the pancakes but rather the sauce that goes on the pancakes. You're not going to know this unless you're familiar with the Japanese love for corn puffs or their popular pancakes or their sauces. Ergo the snack is corn puffs flavored to simulate cabbage pancake sauce, sprinkled with nori flakes, and their mascot is a frog with a policeman's hat and belt named "Taro."

Depending on climate, we grow all 3 types. A fellow with a diversified
farm (hedges climates shifting about) made the agricultural news.
North Carolina based. First year, he planted too soon because it was
outgrowing the greenhouse. Apparently, he's laughing all the way to
the bank, marketing 'USA, locally grown' organic Taro. Apparently,
Taro does best without all the expensive fertilizers.
