I took my car into the shop today and when I got back, a new mailbox was
there. No clue how it got there or how we get the keys. Hmmm...

Yep. Just wish I had the keys! Got my mail from the post office today. They
said nothing about it. Then after I got home. I saw the scan and there's an
important document. Not going back to the post office any time soon. They
made me wait and wait. I just stood there while the others were being
served.

Be sure to leave bread and milk every evening, or they'll take the
mailbox back. You and the neighbors can set up a rota.

Yep. And for her to take this on herself without consulting anyone first is
odd. There are a variety of mailboxes for sale. Looks like she chose the
cheapest one but wouldn't you think she'd want the input from the rest of us
as to color, style, etc.? And now how are we supposed to pay her? We don't
know who she is? If we start blinding asking people, we might pay the wrong

Well Julie, here's a wild guess; Mystery Neighbour replaced the mail
box because that's where she gets her mail. That should narrow the
field.

If that's not enough of a Julieclue, just post a note with your
contact details in every slot whose owner is unknown to you. Addressed

Don't laugh. Years ago Canada Post suspended my mail delivery because I
had moved the post back a few inches and they said it was too far from
the road. I asked why they had not warned me that they were doing that.
They did. They had sent me a letter advising me that my delivery was
suspended, and then they held it at the post office because delivery had
been suspended.

Well, they didn't. And the plot thickens.

Whoever put the box in, did not put the correct box. There is only one
parcel locker and far too many mailboxes.

One neighbor heard from another neighbor that we each owe $200 but she will
not pay.

I contacted another neighbor to tell him what she said. He said he tracked
down the mailman and was told that a USPS guy named Dave installed it and we
have to call him. He was given a 206 area code number. We are 425 here.

Talk about muddy waters! Dang. Sooo complicated. And I can't do a thing till

charges us nothing, fine. Otherwise... Problem. If a neighbor did it, they
should have contacted us. There are various styles, colors, companies who
sell them, etc. We agreed to nothing. One neighbor can't just take it upon
themselves to do something without asking, then expect us to pay.

Then why didn't they give me keys when I went to the post office? We have
all been going there and nobody was given keys. It hasn't cost us anything

Something is very wrong in Julie's head. And Julie's ass is too lazy
to contact the postmaster.
I've had a PO Box most of my life and in several post offices
throughout the US. Anytime there's been an issue I've been contacted
in writing by official USPS mail... I get a notice in my PO Box each
year for paying my rent. Anytime I've had a question I could either
phone the Postmaster or stop in to talk with the Postmaster. There
are very specific USPS rules regarding all aspects of mail boxes and
they are the same regardless which zip code.. . all mail boxes must be
approved by the USPS and their location by the postmaster for the
area... approved mail boxes are so stamped. The issues regarding the
Bothel, WA post office and their mail boxes are very likely on line.

Julie's story is a "red herring", it's very "fishy"...LOL...!!!

I grew up in the sticks, family members were employed for decades by the local PO as carriers and postmasters...NOTHING like her story could ever happen, it's simply "manufactured drama" as she is a very adroit attention - seeker...

Anyone that would mess with her USPS services is committing a FEDERAL offense, the penalties are very severe and when the Postal Inspection Service takes action, they make Ming The Merciless look like a piker...be VERY VERY AFRAID if you are ever in their gunsights...

Hopefully the gardener will not remove the cosmoline from the afore - mentioned tool to be inserted...as Julie's bullshit is found to be "corrosive" in nature:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cosmoline

"Cosmoline is the genericized trademark for a common class of brown wax-like petroleum-based corrosion inhibitors, typically conforming to United States Military Standard MIL-C-11796C Class 3. They are viscous when freshly applied, have a slight fluorescence, and solidify over time and exposure to air...

Cosmoline was developed by Houghton International in the late 1800s as a pharmaceutical product. The original Cosmoline was an ointment and was used for many different cosmetic and medical purposes. It was kept in homes to disinfect wounds and was used by veterinarians to treat cuts, abrasions, bruises and sprains. Cosmoline could even be found on farms, where it was used to relieve swelling in cow's udders...

Cosmoline became an everyday name when it received a government specification as a rust preventive and began being used by the military to protect its equipment from rust and corrosion. Cosmoline could be found on military equipment in the Spanish–American War, World War I, World War II, and the Korean and Vietnam Wars..."

Cosmoline is magical name for a magical stuff. My dad said the Army would pack weapons in the stuff and bury it. This happened in 1946 in Japan. He said they would dig pits on the beaches and drive jeeps and larger vehicles into the pits and bury them. Why they did this, he forgot to mention. Perhaps they're still there.

Nice to see you too O. Hmm, well, been at our Tasmanian home since
last November. We planned to return to Thailand a month ago but of
course it's too difficult at the moment. So we've done a fair bit of
travelling around Tasmania and visiting friends. What have you been
doing?

Gawd no. It is a heart attack on a plate. Gravy can be good on fries,
but.... cheese? No thanks. There is a significant French Canadian
population around here but poutine just hasn't caught on. I can't
remember the last time I saw it on a menu.

OK to try once and see, personally I hate anything atop fries,
especially gravy. Why cook them until crisp and then drench them?

I agree with you. When I make fries, I heavily salt and pepper
them and that's all I do. If I did add any ketchup or gravy,
I would put it on the side as a dip to use occasionally.

You'll need to go to the post office and speak with the postmaster.
They don't send mailbox keys through the mail, you'll need to sign for
keys and pay for keys. When keys are lost or the mailbox is rekeyed
there's a fee and it's not cheap... I lost a PO Box key many years ago
and it cost me over $50 to pay the USPS locksmith... PO Box keys are
stamped "USPS - do not copy". Those community postal boxes require a
master key and a separate key for each box.

Ophelia, comments like this are why we worry when dsi1 makes bogus
comments about Mainland USA. Please, don't be so gulible ok?

The US post office does NOT rip out your mailbox, have USPS install a
new one and refuse to give you the keys or *charge you* for the keys.

Much as I like Julie, she's being really stupid here in this thread.

I never said any of those things! The only thing I know for certain is that
when I moved in, I had to call a locksmith to replace the lock. I had to pay
for that. Ross said when he bought his house, the former owner gave him the
keys so he didn't replace the lock. He should have, just to be safe. But he
didn't.
