This week's project

These 25lb 2" thick round washed gravel over cement pavers were
buried in the back yard, most of them under a big patch of wild
garlic. I dug up 18 of them and have since spotted another 2 to make
a 6th row (but I don't have enough brick for the extra 18" of edging
- not sure if I like that brick anyway).

https://i.postimg.cc/tJCJg6Jp/Wallkway-corner.jpg

I'm still trying to find enough washed round stones to fill in gaps.
That gravel didn't work for me. I'm gradually stealing round washed
rock and shale rocks from wherever I see them - but you can only
carry so many rock in a backpack at one time. Most of them so far
are from Costco or the CapMetro Transit Centers ;-)

Everything is perfectly flat with weed guard underneath. I had to
wait for rains to make mud and then used a lawn aerator roller
thingy to smoosh it all up and then a hoe to grade it. That started
6 or so weeks ago (not much rain lately) and I did a few times to
let it settle and re-graded.

I don't have a wheelbarrow or a dolly, but why make 9 trips to carry
2 of these pavers *around* the side of the house over uneven
terrain? That would be 900 yards total, 450 of those yards carrying
50lbs each. The shortest distance between two points is an (almost
straight) line - from the back kitchen door to the frotn steps is
only 25 yards. 250 yards... still too much walking (plus I dont'
ahevg any back porch so its a 3 ft drop out that door).

Lazy ness to teh recue. I took a 2' square piece of 3/4" cabinet
grade plywood, 4 casters (only two of which pivot) and screwed those
in there. Saw a carpet remnant and staple-gunned that to the wood.
And presto: A paver stone dolly.

https://i.postimg.cc/Y0927wDS/Dolly-Bottom.jpg
https://i.postimg.cc/gJ4c10D5/Dolly-Top.jpg

(OK - yeah, I understand if you don't want me to decorate your
birthday cake).

I put the dolly inside th back kitchen door and loaded it from
outside with 18 of those pavers in one stack 40" tall and weighing
almost 450 pounds and pushed it, using the hoe, through the kitchen,
dining room, living room, and foyer, and out onto the front porch.
25 yards *ONE* TRIP!

OK, so who was that triangle... Pythogorus? He/she said, "a^2 + b^2
= c^2" IIRC. Lets see - 12" pavers x 5 feet on the right edges
would be (5x5)+(5x5) = 50. Square root of 50 is about 7 feet for
the new "shortcut", while the old "route" was 10 feet, saving me 3
feet each x ~500 walks a year for a total savings of <cha-ching!>
500 yards of walking a year and

ObFood: And conserving 40 calories! I'll just eat two less french
fries per year! Woo hoo!

Total Cost: $0 - including the sex.

Must be nice. The ground is frozen hard as concrete up here.

OTOH, it's nice to have a few months off from yard work to get indoor projects done.

We finished the slat wall today. Rolled the laminated MDF out of the
shop on a big work table and routered the snot out of it.

When we're fresh, we'll hang it.

Your project looks very nice; lots of hard work, I see. Does Home Depot
or Lowe's not sell those washed, round stones by the bag full??

It looks like an interesting way to fill a small corner. I wouldn't
know about findig round stones (river rocks) for fill in.

I probably have enough in the back woods, but Its more fun
steal^H^H^H^H^Hcollecting them.

The realtor for the house across the street caught me taking those
couple pieces of shale. Turns out he wasn't the realtor anymore -
he's the owner. And I think I saw his boyfriend sporting a badge on
his buckle along with that shoulder holster.

Do any golf balls come near your house?

Funny you should ask. Over the years, I've collected about a dozen on the
path I use to walk my dog. It is an unused road allowance between half a
dozen residential properties and a 'No Trespassing' wooded area that
people hike & snowshow in all the time because the sign is just to
prevent injury / loss insurance claims.

I say funny because it is not at all close to a golf course or driving
range. I've never seen anyone putting a round on their back lawns.

Those things can be dangerous. When I was a kid my friend was golfing
with his father and got hit by a ball. It broke his arm. Years later a
friend out in Victoria was golfing and got beaned in the head and
received a concussion.

One day I was coming home from work and took a scenic tour that went
past a golf course. I was moving along and happened to notice a little
white thing coming down toward me. It was golf ball and it landed right
in the middle of the windshield. It hit hard enough that it embedded
itself into the glass. I waited a couple minutes until someone came
looking for his ball. His insurance covered the w/s replacement.

One of our regular paddles runs alongside a golf course. One of the
guys likes look for golf balls and every time we paddle there he gets a
half dozen or so. One day I was paddling there with a bunch of women.
They wanted to get out and half lunch near that spot. I objected because
of the hazard. They thought I was being silly until we hear balls
hitting the trees.

Fortunately not that close, although some of my neighbors have had
windows broken by errant golf balls.

I served my time. When I introduced myself I brought a rake, a
cement tamper, and a couple tarps to help him bag his leaves. The
Raking leaves doesn't come easy for me - I went cold turkey and put
down my rake 41 years ago. And it was the same rake, too. I feel
some PTSD coming on...

Lucky for me I didn't see he could use some help until most of it
was racked up and he just needed to bag them.

Judged by its laws and leadership, California is among the most anti-gun states in the nation.

But when the head of L.A.’s police union compares the city to the Purge movies, in which all crime is
temporarily legalized, and says that the LAPD “can’t guarantee your safety,” many Californians
understand that their safety is up to them. As Westwood noted, concealed carry permit applications in
Los Angeles County have increased more than tenfold in recent years.

Journalist Michael Shellenberger chronicled the same attitude shift among Beverly Hills liberals in a recent
piece: “Even hardcore leftist Democrats who said to me in the past, ‘I’ll never own a gun’ are calling me
asking about firearms,” a private security executive said.

Likewise, Seattle, which has been called “America’s most liberal city,” is experiencing a surge in gun ownership.
Per Westwood’s reporting, the county sheriff’s office said it can barely accommodate the “tremendous number
of individuals wanting to get their Concealed Pistol License at this time.”
