I don't know what kind of hillbilly heaven you live in, but millions
of people don't give two shits for auto racing.

Your message is going unheard here. Perhaps a newsgroup devoted to
automobiles would be a better venue.

There were going to have a race with electrics but it would take three
days to cover 500 miles with all the charging time.

My guess is that the electric car will probably end up having a greater range on a single charge than most gas cars. They'll use a solid state electrolyte and be made of fairly cheap, abundant, materials. They'll also charge up in seconds, not hours. The new batteries will change how we view electric power and the way we live.

Irrelevant to most of us, I suspect. We'll be dead before any of this
happens.

Another one of your great guesses? Don't bet on it happening any time
soon. They have been doing research on electric cars for a long time and
battery life and range have been a major problem. Don't forget that the
bigger the battery the heavier it will be, and the heavier it is, the
more energy it will take to move it.

Think about the fuel logistics for airplanes and space craft. My friend
is a retired airline pilot. He has told be about situations where he was
flying into an area with weather problems. He was concerned about being
stuck in a holding pattern and being low on fuel. One one flight He had
to insist on carrying extra fuel. They had to do a number of
calculations to consider how much extra fuel would be consumed and the
extra cost just to transport that fuel. He stuck to his guns and got
the extra fuel. As it turned out, they did get stuck in a holding
pattern. When things opened up he had to get prioritized due to low
fuel, landed and taxied to the gate and arrived with little more than
fumes in the tanks.
