I have been thinking about getting a new "companian" for my Buffy, as she is getting along a bit in years, and since I have always wanted a black cat, I have decided to adopt "Tess" (link below). When I met her, she immediately jumped up into my lap and started purring, and so I was hooked:

"Tess looks a bit sleepy in her picture but she is all in favor of some fun with toys! She is just a year old and we are happy that her new home is just around the corner"

Just an FYI - Buffy will *not* tolerate another cat in her domain and I
wouldn't subject her to it. When I adopted her household (her owner
died) I was told by the caretaker who was adopting out the cats she was
bullied by another cat (Frankie), a Tonkinese male. I was told he
wouldn't let her get near the food or any toys.

Poor Buffy was hiding on a chair under the dining room table. She
didn't realize it was a glass top table. Hey, I can see you! :) The
other cat had to be locked away in another room. We managed to coax her
into the carrier with a bit of wet food in a bowl. Zipped it up! I'm
taking you to a new home. :) She didn't utter a peep on the drive home.

I let her out in the bedroom and showed her where the litter box and
food and water is. Then I left her alone. Let her get used to her own
surroundings. She promptly hid under the bed. After about 30 minutes I
looked, she wasn't under the bed. She'd come out and discovered the
chairs under MY dining room table. LOL Mine isn't a glass-top table and
it is covered with a table cloth. So she was hidden by the drape of the
table cloth. But I thought to look under there.

I tapped my fingers and she came down. Hi Buffy! This is your new
home. :) She started exploring a bit. Soon realized there was not
another cat around. And there are cat toys!

Buffy will always be an only cat.

Funny how some pets are quick to accept new arrivals while others can be
real jerks. My first two dog period was interesting. We had a Bouvier
des Flandres and my wife bought me a Lab puppy. The Lab pup adored the
Bouvier, but she hated him. She was never aggressive toward him and
tended to avoid him. Later on we had a Shepherd/Bouvier and then
adopted a Groendahl. The got along great, though the newcomer was the
boss. Later on, after the mutt died, we got our current Malinois, and
the two Belgiums always got along well. A year ago we adopted a mini
Golden Doodle. He bosses the old Malinois around and can be pretty
nasty to him.
It's a good thing we didn't have the two of them when the Malinois was
in his prime. He was a powerful guy and would have ripped the little guy
apart.

I didn't write that post. At least it was a benign attempt at trolling.

I'm not in the market for a "companion" for Buffy. At any rate, Buffy
wouldn't be happy with another cat.

I was wondering. Yes, Buffy is an only cat, like my Daisy-chan.

We will get another rescue dog but not just now. We need one to
balance a blind dog and a cat. Hard to find just the right one in that
case.

Sad grin, has to fit the existing house so a couch potato sort is just
right.

Sounds like a vacancy for a rescued retired racing greyhound. Most are
very calm gentle lazy couch potatoes. The charity we got ours from tests
for cat-compatibility.

Haven't you gotten the memo ? You do not choose the cat , the cat
chooses you ! One day a couple of years or so back , this cute little
gray kitty showed up on our deck . She's still here . You do know that
the difference between cats and dogs is that dogs have masters , cats
have staff ...

You are CORRECT! A dog has a master, a cat has a staff! I had to EARN the trust of that last cat who chose me, and my EVIL last Landlord made me take Kitty to a KILL shelter! All because I didn't have $500 to save her life too! :-(

It took us almost a year before we wanted another dog . And then came
the day my wife called from work to say a co worker had a pack o'
puppies in the trunk of his car out in the parking lot . I went , we saw
, and Max came home with us . BTW , Max isn't a rescue dog , but his
mother was ...

When/why did Jill go over to the Dark Side?

I have a few extra paid usenet accounts if she needs one.

That was the case with our cat. My son opened the front door one night and a cat just walked in. It had a big cut on its belly. My guess was that it was taking a snooze on top of a car engine. That's one cool cat. Even with its belly ripped open and his guts exposed, he didn't look like he was in any discomfort. I don't really care for cats but we now have 2 of them. I'll open the door and let one of them outside every once in a while. I believe that they keep our walkway clear of chickens.
