Crab cakes

My friend made us crab cakes for dinner tonight. There is a place
nearby where you can get fresh meat from the local blue point crabs. No
bread filler in these either, just an egg binder. Damn, they were good.

Crab cake, tomato and mozz salad, wilted spinach with garlic. Gin and
tonic for the beverage. I did help though, I put the ice in the glasses.

The seat where I am at the table is looking out over the beach and
ocean. Nice way to enjoy a dinner with a friend. Four more days of this.

Nothing like gin and grapefruit juice. Or gin and cranberry juice. Juice kind of, masks the bitterness.

Sounds like a very nice meal! I had crab cakes last night but I didn't
make them, I bought a box of frozen crab cakes. :)

I sat outside and read for a while yesterday. It was very hot but the
humidity was fairly low. Most days last week it was so humid the
windows were covered in dew half the day. Yesterday was a nice respite.
I didn't stay out there as long as I'd have liked. Someone nearby has
a construction project going on. The peace was shattered by the
constant sound of an electric saw. :(

As an avid DIYer, I find the sound of a saw soothing. As long
as it's not _too_ close.

At least when you DIY you can turn off the saw whenever you like. Or
ask your husband to turn it off. This was a constant, grating whine. I
think someone nearby is building an addition. On top of that, someone
in the opposite direction started up with a very loud leaf blower. I'd
hoped for a nice quiet afternoon on the patio. Oh well! At least the
humidity is down a bit. :)

LOL I'm not sitting outside wearing ear muffs in 95 degree heat. I did
wear a hat so my scalp wouldn't get sunburned and to keep the sun off my
face.

Yes, I eat them all the time in California roll. They're white
fish ground up, flavored with crab juice, and extruded. They
taste a bit like crab, if you haven't had crab in a while.

It comes in lobster flavor, too.

My wife uses bluetooth ear buds... she can't hear any external sounds
unless she turns the volume way low. I tried them only I can't stand
those things poked in my ears... might work for you... other thing is
that if you crank them way up they can damage your hearing.
Since we don't open windows we don't hear outside street noise.

I usually have a bag of sticks and another of chunks in the freezer, and generally use them for California rolls, pasta, and as a protein topping on salads, and not for anything where I want true crabby flavor. They sort of taste like real crab, but are definitely different, less "fishy," which is a good thing sometimes.

Definitely cheaper than the real thing.

Electric circular saws operate at a virtual whisper.
Chainsaws are screaming loud, even at a half mile away... and I don't
want to hear about ToysRUs electric chainsaws.

If your hearing is compromised, yes. You might want to have
yours checked. A circular saw going through lumber is
painfully loud and requires hearing protection.

Yeah there's nothing like the taste and consistency of crab-heavy crab
cakes. My favorite youtube teaching chef, John Tersack of Chicago. His
channel is TheSeasonedCook.
