As the paper said, it's not all mac and cheese; one recipe even included broccoli.

The section, from today's Sunday paper, is 36 pages long.

(But one can't help noticing that a LOT of these dishes take more time than many parents of small kids have to spare. Not to mention the extra cost of certain ingredients.)

Did it ever occur to you that I got blocked too? Try thinking.

Besides, even if I hadn't been blocked, I think most people would be turned off by 36 online pages anyway.

But if you're so desperate for MY posts, here it is - FWIW.

Maybe most of the regulars here have only adult kids - but one never knows.

Besides, newbies exist.

Btw, at one point, the "clean-your-plate" rule got mentioned - and rejected - by a parent.

I don't see what's wrong with it. Food waste is no laughing matter, for multiple reasons - and parents shouldn't have to eat food that's already had someone else's fork in it. Besides, there's a very simple way to do it. How?

Put only one tablespoon of each dish on the kid's plate and THEN say everything has to be eaten before seconds are served.

That way, the focus is on the WHOLE plate, and the parent doesn't fall into the trap of saying "no meat before you finish your vegetables." (That only makes the vegetables even less appealing.) Plus, if the kid would really rather go to bed hungry than eat one tiny bite of vegetables, that's the kid's fault.

(I'd add that, given that diabetes is the leading cause of BLINDNESS in the U.S., maybe it's time for families everywhere to make dessert a once-a-week habit, not a twice-daily habit. Not to mention the need to give a flat-out "no" to any cereal where sugar is the first or second ingredient. Any kids who cry and scream at that rule can be given early bedtimes until they learn to accept the rule. I mean, why do those cartoon-covered cereals even EXIST anymore, when parents should know better than to buy them?)

Here's an easy, good looking recipe from the article.

Ginger-Lime Chicken
https://cooking.nytimes.com/recipes/1021294-ginger-lime-chicken

Though this may look like regular old chicken, dont be fooled: Its
buzzing with the bright flavors of ginger and lime. Mayonnaise is the
secret ingredient in this recipe, which is a trick J. Kenji Lpez-Alt
has written about. When slathered on boneless chicken and cooked, the
beloved condiment carries flavor, sticks to the meat well, encourages
browning and prevents the pieces of lime zest and ginger or whatever
seasonings you choose from burning. Try this technique first with
ginger and lime zest, then experiment with grated garlic, jalapeo,
lemon, Parmesan and whatever else you can imagine. Serve with a pile
of white rice and a fresh green salad topped with thinly sliced
avocado.

Yield: 4 servings

Ingredients

1-1/2 to 2 pounds boneless, skinless chicken thighs or breasts
Kosher salt (such as Diamond Crystal) and black pepper
1/3 cup mayonnaise
1 tablespoon lime zest (from about 2 limes),
plus lime wedges, for serving
1 tablespoon finely grated fresh ginger
(from a 3-inch piece of peeled ginger)

Preparation

Step 1
Pat the chicken dry and season all over with 1 teaspoons salt. In a
medium bowl, stir together the mayonnaise, lime zest and ginger;
season with salt and pepper. Add the chicken to the mayonnaise mixture
and stir to coat. (The chicken can sit in the marinade for up to 8
hours in the fridge. Let come to room temperature before cooking.)

Step 2A
To grill: Heat a grill to medium-high. Grill the chicken over direct
heat until cooked through and juices run clear, about 5 minutes per
side for thighs and about 4 minutes per side for breasts, turning as
necessary to avoid burning.

Step 2B
To cook in a skillet: Heat a large skillet over medium-high. Cook the
chicken until juices run clear, about 5 minutes per side for thighs
and about 4 minutes per side for breasts.

Step 3
Serve chicken with lime wedges, for squeezing on top.

It just boggles my mind that an adult would think these dishes are "kid-friendly." The list is so disorienting that I feel like I'm in an alternate reality. Either I'm going crazy or yoose guys don't know a thing about kids.
Dinner yesterday was Thai curry ramen and spicy garlic goyza. It's not a kid-friendly meal. It was an awesome adult-friendly meal. My granddaughter had a hot dog - now that's a kid-friendly meal.

That's why we invented diapers for the young and Depends for the old and
sickly. Even animals in the wild don't piss or poo in their dens, homes.

Don't forget too, humans are also animals. The Alpha in most cases.
We are omnivores and will eat anything easily available.

Your cat(s) are carnivores. Does any cat owner feed them beans for
protein? My cat would have had none of that friendly nonsense. lol

Humans can eat everything, but we don't have to eat everything.

That seems to be a recurring question from meat eaters. What do you
feed your cat? We feed our cats bbq'd marshmallows.

What about domesticate animals? Most people work hard to keep their
horses' living quarters clean. They take the horse out and rake up the
bedding to remove the urine and manure and put in clean material. Then
they bring the horse back in their their freshly cleaned stalls. One of
the first things the horse will do is to piss in the clean stall. It
isn't a matter of them not being able to hold it. They do it on purpose.

Some animals have downright disgusting toilet habits. The monkey I used
to care for used to crap into his hand and then hold it up to his nose
and sniff it.

But IME, their own house is a tip-heap.
