Here is a variety of face masks you can make at home. You can vary the
level of protection but I think all are good.

I'm going with #8 since I have the material.

Make sure your rubber band is nice and stretchy.

Last week I went to a Walmart Neighborhood Market and what do I see walk
in front of my car? A guy with a face mask on and a clear dry cleaner
type bag on as well. It came down to about hip level. All I could do is
stare.

I have never worn a face mask and I wore gloves only once. I go around
people everyday and I have not gotten sick, although I may be one of
the ones that are immune to the disease by having the antibodies
already in my blood which can only mean one thing. The idiot doctors
that were so quick to spread this "novel(new)" virus to the media were
wrong and there is Nothing new about it. Especially seeing how so many
people are not affected by it at all.

It is a novel virus indeed. You could have a severely compromised blood oxygen level and feel fine. How does that work? It's a mystery. As a matter of fact, a cheap pulse oximeter might be more useful at early detection of covid-19 silent hypoxia than a nasal swab test. By the time you display symptoms, it might be too late.

It is believed now that 80% of infections are asymptomatic.
Therefore, the mask on your face is not to protect you from the virus
but to protect others from your spreading the virus to others. If we
can stop the virus spread, we can get the incidence of infections way
down. If the asymptomatic people do not wear masks the virus will
continue to spread, perhaps even spike again. Do you want to go
through shut down again?

And for that reason, the governor of Virginia issued a new
mandate the other day - starting tomorrow (Friday May 29),
everyone in the state must wear a mask in public places.
(Not outdoors unless you're in a crowd)

I think it's a good move. It's hardly an incovenience to
wear one occasionally. I keep one in the glove compartment
of my van so I always have one handy whenever I drive anywhere.
Every little bit of precaution is a good thing.

Oddly, his mandate is only for "everyone over the age of 10."
I suspect most parents will/should protect their young
ones with a mask too. I can't imagine not doing so.

I was out for a bicycle ride yesterday and was amazed at the number of
people I saw driving alone in their cars and wearing masks. There seemed
to be more doing that than wearing them in stores. It seemed so strange
because there is really no need to wear one in a car by yourself.

I've seen the same thing. I'll take a wild guess and say people wear

I agree. I also see many people just walking alone outside
and wearing a mask. Even maintenence workers here.

I saw a funny this morning. Woman walking her little dog. Woman
was wearing a face mask. Dog had one hanging around it's neck but
not covering nose and mouth.

I talked to her for a few minutes about that. Seems that the dog
was very interested in her once she put a mask on. So she said,
"oh, would like one too?"

So she put one on her dog at home and the dog seemed to like it.
She did pull it down on the neck when going for a walk as she
assumed it wouldn't be so good for breathing while walking.

Wished I had a camera for that one. Dog with mask was cute.

I see a lot of people wearing the improperly and touching their faces a
lot. When I was at Costco a couple days ago they guy at the front
sanitizing the carts had a mask on but it was below his nose.

I was getting curbside pickup at a pet shop on the weekend and an
elderly English couple came along wearing masks. I got a bit of a dirty
look from the woman, which I thought might have been because I was not
wearing a mask. Then she stood about a foot behind me. I just turned
around and looked at the ground and the narrow space between us and
shook my head.

I often put mine on at home because:

1. I know my hands are clean there
2. Mine ties behind my head and it's kind of awkward to put it on in the car

I often leave mine on until a arrive at home, because I assume my hands
are contaminated.

Thus, it's on when I'm in the car.

How true, graham. Then again, anyone who thinks this global pandemic is
a hoax is a a half-wit. Maybe Christkiller lives in a bubble. The
world hasn't seen anything like this virus before. Spanish Flu in 1918
is the only real comparable scenario in terms of numbers and at that
time many doctors didn't have a grasp on the difference between
bacterial and viral infections and how they are spread.

The only idiots "in the crowd" not wearing masks are people like the
clueless troll. Perhaps when the people who remove all the gluten from
his food get sick he'll sit up and take notice. ;)

It's politically expedient to put the blame on China. I think that's a very dangerous game. My wife's friend at work is getting frantic with the fear that the US is going to war with China. My guess is that the chump is going to risk the security of the world in order to get a few lousy votes - and he's going to get them too.

The reality is that getting Americans behind the idea of hating other people is a sound political strategy. That has always been the MO of desperate leaders of desperate nations.

How do we know it's a china virus? It was first noticed in wuhan,
but could have been introduced by a dutch tourist who went there,
simply because there were millions of chinese asses to sniff!

You could have started it Druce.]

It was the Wuhan virus and then it was the Corona virus and then after
people whined about racism they changed it to Covid 19. It started it
Wuhan China. It spread across Wuhan to the rest of China and then to the
rest of the world while China was reluctant to admit that there was a
problem. If it has started in Canada or the US or some other country
with a diverse population one could call it the American virus or the
Canadian virus without identifying a particular race. This one started
in China, a country with more than a billion Chinese people. It is
about the country, not the ethnicity.

The thing about racists is that they'll swear up and down that they're not racists. I actually believe them - they really are totally clueless. People of color know what the score is. America is supposed to be the great melting pot but it's more like a great big power keg.

thing about masks is when people talk with them on, cough, sneeze, or
just breathe they become infused with virus. very very heavy
concentrations. The masks are moved, adjusted, pulled up or down for
air, taken on and off. So now the persons hands are all infected they
touch raw fruits and veg, canned goods, they may pick up a bag of
pasta then put it down, they may grab various other items and put them
down or move something on a shelf or touch the cart or basket or touch
the cash that they just handed to the cashier which then puts it in
the drawer where it infects other bills. MASKS ARE WORTHLESS !!! ARE
YOU GETTING THE POINT YET??

No not quite. A person that is asymptomatic does not ever show
symptoms. They are basically not at all bothered by the virus. Yes the
virus has entered their body and it can be spread until that persons
immune system is finished eradicating the virus. That can take however
long it takes but the person is still completely and totally immune to
the disease.

I think there was only one lab in the world that held the corona
virus. Yes it was in china. Even though they have denied that
particular strain was not stored in their lab.

No, it's one of the corona viruses. SARS is also caused by a corona
virus.

Using them the right way would require several weeks or even months in
a school. I am telling you it would be like trying to teach a 3 month
old on how to tie a double knot....
People are really that damn stupid.

The thing about racists is that they'll swear up and down that they're not
racists. I actually believe them - they really are totally clueless. People
of color know what the score is. America is supposed to be the great melting
pot but it's more like a great big power keg.

The official naming convention for new illnesses is to _not_ use the
place of origin. It's been that way since 2015 or thereabouts. I
think MERS was the last major new virus that used the old place-name
convention.

The "Chinese virus" was temporarily named "2019 novel coronavirus", but
its official name is "Severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2".

Of course, the popular press (including That Man in the White House)
won't use the official name, so they've just been calling it whatever
they like, depending on their political lean.

The disease that it causes is called COVID-19.

My employer would provide two every day if I asked for it.

Unfortunately it does have something to do with them when you have
some racially minded person deciding they will abuse them.

Sorry but I like to at least try speaking for them, or against the
racially minded idiots. At least they derive comfort from the fact we
don't all think like the idiots.

By just ignoring racism, you promote it. Think of Neilmollers poem.
