Just put the pills in a different box. OTOH, the UK version seems to have
a problem with liver and kidney function. It is not recommended
to be taken by people over the age of 65.
Benadryl is a brand name. The antihistamines in Benadryl are
used in a variety of OTC sleep meds at higher prices. Not all
sleep aids use the antihistamine diphenhydramine, but they
are pretty much alike. I'm a label reader. I used to run errands
for a woman who insisted on OTC Unisom sleeping tablets. I
told her she can get the same thing cheaper, that generic
antihistamines will do the same thing. And they do. I know. I
used them for years.
Some medicines have side effects that are sold as other
things. A few years ago I went to a skin doctor because I
had a rash on my leg that had come and gone for years. It
never extended beyond that point. Sometimes it would leave
for a month at a time. One time it came back and I decided to
find a skin doctor nearby. He told me I had 'contact dermatitis'.
More witch doctor bullshit. He gave me some steroid cream.
Not a prescription, just some stuff he had in the back. I put
it on at home and the next day woke up to find my shoulders
and arms and other spots had broken out with the same rash
I had on my leg.
I went back to the guy and he told me I have two things wrong
with me - and I went for it. He gave me oral fungal meds. The
next day I woke up with my fingers swollen up like sausages.
The other stuff on the arms and shoulders were still there. I
was itching constantly. Tried not to but couldn't.
I almost went back to the same guy a third time. How stupid
I can be. I went to a clinic and was seen by a team of doctors.
I told them the whole story. They evaluated then told me they
were going to give me a few prescriptions. They were all things
I had taken before. I was steamed. Then the woman doctor
said, "Oh, and we're also giving you some Neurontin." I asked
her what it was. She said it was an anti-seizure med but one
of its side effects is that it dulls the nerve endings just enough
to not feel the need to itch. Within one day I stopped itching and
within two days the rashes began to disappear. But from a visual
standpoint it took about a month. The Neurontin also makes
people tired, so it can be taken as a sleeping pill, which I did
every now and then. Neurontin is a brand name. The actual
name of the stuff is gabopentin.
