I went to McDogs today as that was where my great-granddaughter chose
to go, have to say, in 32 years the food is no better, the coffee, yes
a bit better. Can't imagine why Gary loves it so much.

I ate at McD's several years ago, thought I'd give it a try (never ate there regularly in any case), afterwards I had the squitters...

My corner pizza joint does a decent job with burgers, but I've not imbibed any sort of burger in the last year or so, rarely have a craving...besides, plenty of newer "upscale" joints like 5 Guys, etc. are proliferating...

How were the "famous fries" (if you tried them)...???

Also, recently read an article about McD's re: minimum wage. They are not fighting the "Fair $15.00" anymore, but they've drastically reduced their number of workers, 'bout IIRC 50% in the last few years (despite expansion and healthy sales)...using kiosks, etc. to automate their stores...

I stopped in at one of the local McD's here Tuesday morning after getting out

coffee was outstanding.

I love McDonald's because the food there is cheap and fast and the surroundings are clean and safe. They have pretty good coffee that goes for a buck. McDonald's save me time because I don't have to dick around with going to a slow and expensive restaurant. Yoose guys might have all the time in the world but I don't. Taste has nothing to do with it. Just thinking about the food there makes my stomach churn a little.

We prefer Burger King or Wendy's when the choice exists but, you have

When I visit the Okanagan I usually go to McDo for a breakfast muffin
and coffee. The coffee is pretty good. I prefer A&W for burgers.
A couple of months ago I was on a tour of the Coast Road in Victoria

to those here - but the price was much higher.

Jill, I am a big fan of Hardee's breakfast biscuits, but usually ask for one with just egg
and cheese. No meat. I find the sausage usually o.k., but now and then I would get one
with some gristle, and for me, the bacon has to be super crispy and sometimes it is not.
But the egg and cheese is really good (I usually use a coupon if I can, and buy an extra
and take it home for breakfast the next day). I like to open up the egg side and sprinkle
some pepper on the egg. (The coupons are usually for sausage biscuits, so that is what
I get, and take out the sausage.) I noticed the last time I stocked up on biscuits (keep
them in the fridge, in plastic), they have added a crispy chicken one I think. I haven't
tried that yet.)

But of course, I would be a fan of their breakfast biscuits because I am such a fan of their
plain or "butter" biscuits. ;-))

Thankfully, I can say it's never been 'consistently' unappealing in my
experience. Yes, I have been disappointed with some fast food places and
I've been just as disappointed at local independent joints. Neither one
can guarantee a fantastic meal/experience each and every day their doors

Pretty low standards. Every place around here is safe (except for the
occasional low-rent bar). Because the results of Health Department
inspections are published, most restaurants take great pains to be
clean.

I can get much better cheap and fast food than McDonald's. Grocery-store
sushi is better.

Every year when they publish results of bacteria tests in fast food
joints, usually it is Wendys that outstrips all the others. McD very
low on the scale, never seen it as a winner. Wendys always get a tip

etc.

When traveling large supermarkets have good delis. I'd rather buy a
loaf of bread, fresh sliced cold cuts, cheese, some fresh fruit. and a
cold drink than eat fast food... I don't mind preparing my own
sandwich, in fact I'd rather than some scuzzy fast food burger
flipper. Any supermarket is a better place to dine than fast food. I
don't consider any fast food burger edible, it's all mystery meat. The
closest I'll come to fast food is pizza, at least it's autoclaved.
Everything about a burger joint is an appetite killer; the appearence,
the stench, the unbathed masses. If I want food fast I can buy any
food canned, I'd rather a can of sardines on a hard roll than a burger
joint.

These days most major supermarkets maintain a dining nook near their
deli, and the delis always have a number of hot meal specials or one
can order a cold sandwich or fix their own... all in less time than
any resto. The small Tops Market in town here has a nice six table

It's not about saving time or money. It's about getting away from the office
and having someone bring me delicious food and take away the dishes.
Not in a noisy supermarket. In a nice restaurant with quiet
fellow-diners and soothing background music.

I don't see why you're so fixated on grocery stores. The can be
as filthy as any restaurant.

you do know that at the end of the day the stuff on the salad bar gets
poured back into the barrels it came from. . . after sitting out all
day with all kinds of people sampling, switching spoons, having their
hands and shirt sleeves hanging over the food? With your kind of
contamination anxiety I would think you wouldn't be able to tolerate
the thought of that.

Yep, that's the way it works, Ed. :) If staying overnight while on a
long trip we'll ask at the hotel desk for local (not chain)
recommendations for dinner. But when you're on the road you just want
to take a quick break and head back out. Not looking for gourmet dining.

Always took a break for lunch. For years it was at a table in the
conference room with one or two of my co-workers. We both retired but
until I moved, we still had lunch together a couple of times a month.

We rarely discussed work during that time. News, politics, TV shows, it
was a nice break in the day. About 2:30 I'd take a short nap.

I worked a compressed work week, four 9.25 hour days. I was on the road
and usually working on my own and dealt with things as they came up, and
noon hour was often a productive time, so I often skipped lunch. If I
was working with one of my colleagues we usually went out for lunch.

No naps for me. The only time I ever napped was in the first month or
so after surgery. In fact, this afternoon I came the closest to napping
that I have been in the last 8 years. I had been out doing yard work.
After a long, cold, wet spring it jumped up to 82 F today. I came in,
had a shower and laid down for 5 minutes. Now I have to go out and sweep
off the patio and head off on the motorcycle.

RU Nutz... there's no delicious food at Mc Ds and no dishes to take
away. And the market in town isn't noisy, it's rather quiet and they
do have low level muzac playing. If you think any fast food is
delicious then you are definately afflicted with chronic TIAD.
Fast food joints schtink so bad only those with zero personel hygiene
can tolerate them. Last I was in a McDs a burger cost 15¢ and the
joint stank of some rug rat just pooped in its nappy. Fast food
joints are the same as dining at day care centers, nasty nappys du
jour at din-din.

Seems to me that the last time you said that (recently) you
claimed 18 cents each or more.

If that's true then you have no valid reason to comment on
McDonald's after more than 50 years. You have no clue after all
that time.

Also, your home-ground meat is also mystery meat unless you raise
cattle and butcher them yourself. You have no idea about the
large cuts of meat that you buy and grind up. The large cuts you
buy on sale at a grocery store is the same mystery cattle they
grind and sell as ground beast.

I've never been to Whole Foods; not even one on my side of town. They mainly
build in very affluent neighborhoods here. My neighborhood has gotten quite
artsy fartsy but we've not reached Whole Foods standards yet.

The fresh baked bread that Subway does in all their stores is what caught my
attention they have a shop inside the one I frequent. Sure is an attention
getter!

Personally, I like sheep milk feta. There is a nice funkiness to it.
However, I can appreciate the aversion. I have not had a chili dog
since my food poisoning experience about 50 years ago. I have also lost
my taste for mussels after seeing my wife as sick from eating them as I
had been with that chili dog.

Only a few of the local grocery stores around here have them. They are
fairly new stores, but other new stores don't have them.

According to Sheldon, most major supermarkets have a "dining nook". The
Publix here is a large store. It has a nice bakery and deli and they do
serve hot and cold food. They make excellent fried chicken and
rotisserie chicken (but it's not $5, more like $7.99). They make all
kinds of side dishes and some salads. Yes, there's an olive bar. They
probably serve cold sandwiches. But, hot or cold, they expect you to
select what you want, they wrap it up, slap a price label on it and you
head for the checkout stand. No tables.

Even if they had tables, I wouldn't want to eat in the supermarket.

Most of the supermarkets with delis around here have an area with
tables and chairs, typically with a half wall enclosure with one
opening so people with carts can't pass through.
I think deli food is far superior to fast food joints... I'd much
rather a freshly sliced med/rare roast beef on a hard roll to some
fercocktah mystery meat burger on a squishy bun... and faat food
joints ain't cheap, we used to take the grands to McDs only a couple
three years ago, easy to drop $25 to feed just three little kids. we
ordered nada. I couldn't wait to exit from the stench. Kids like
fast food for the colorful packaging, they actually don't like the
food as they only pick at it, they leave more than half. I find it
difficult to believe that any adult who likes to cook would ever eat
at any fast food joint, not for any reason whatsoever. The closest
I'll come to fast food is pizza. There's a good Italian restaurant
about ten miles from here, if in a rush they serve personal size
pizza, about equal to two slices, one personal size pie and a scoop of
lemon ice makes a quick lunch. Anything on their menu can be had as
take out. We do take out when we're in the area as from there there's
a State highway with a 55 MPH limit all the way home, not even a stop
light... food is still hot when we get home. They make a great
calzone.

Sheldon, living out in the boonies, would know that.

Of the larger grocery stores around here, only two have seating. There
are a couple newer and larger grocery stores that do not. It is not
something I would count on when travelling.

If my aim was to buy and eat a meal, I would be more inclined to go to
a restaurant.
