OT: More Wildlife: Blacksnakes

Just spotted another couple of critters outside, wrestling in the grass.
Intertwined black snakes. It's mating season.

They're non-venomous snakes but they do get rather big. They stuck
around just long enough for me to step outside and snap a few pictures.

Then they slithered off to take care of their personal business. :)

I hear what you're saying and I get it. I'm not particularly fond of
snakes. They need to stay outside. It was just cool to be able to step
out and take a photo like that. :)

The camera has a good zoom. :) They do look like a braid. They're
harmless, although they can get rather large. And they do have fangs.
The only time they'll bite is if you go out of your way to provoke them.
I had no intention of provoking them. Most of the time they're easily
startled and just slither off. These two slithered off together,
otherwise occupied. ;)

You're talking about venomous snakes. Most of the snakes around here
are harmless. I'm not particularly fond of them but I know they won't
attack me. They're likely to leave when I step outside.

You're welcome. Heheh. You may keep your bears and mountain
lions/cougars. I'll take the blue herons, the skinks and snakes (as
long as they stay out of my house). I'm expecting some deer to come by
again this evening. :) Might turn into a wildlife photographer again.

Blacksnakes and other non poisonous snakes are great neighbors. They keep the rodent population under control.

They do! There are marsh rats that live around here and you don't want
those in the house, either. I just had the gutters cleaned and that's a
place where the cute but destructive marsh rats like to take up residence.

Jim Fowler died? He used to be on "Wild Kingdom" with Marlin Perkins and was
a frequent guest on the "Tonight Show" with Johnny Carson. Of course, when he
appeared on the show he always brought along some animal, bird, reptile, what-

veggies; added the last two carrots, a half bunch celery, and one
finely minced sweet onion, she'll never know... used dehy parsley and
dill, four bay leaves.

Deer ate all my hostas down to nubbins. They are plentiful in my totally urban neighborhood.
They even jump over my 6' chain link fence, my neighbor reports. I told him I should just
leave the gate open so they don't get hurt. ;-))

Looks like a coiled expensive garden hose. ;)
My daughter had an Australian Python for a few years.
It was a baby (the size of a pencil) when she got it.
Later it grew to full size which luckily was only 3 feet.

The deer completely decimated my neighbor's hydrangea bush. Once, years
ago when I was cat sitting for her she also asked me to water the potted
plants on her patio. She had some beautiful large red flowers (don't
know the name of them) growing in pots. I went over the next day and
they were gone! Ah, but there were tell-tale hoof prints in the soil
next to the patio... :(

Last summer there was a black racer on the step to my front porch, I stepped right over it, I read black racers are less afraid of people than other snakes are.

No way. It's an old metal shed with water dragons, rats, spiders and
the odd snake. It's open to the world. I'm not going to paint that :)
