Both are due to expire in a couple of weeks so after receiving my renewal
notices over a month ago I made an online appointment to have them renewed
for the "Real Id" license.

I get there at least 20 minutes early and stand in the H*O*T sun with
everyone else and the line isn't moving. Finally, the woman comes
around barking "no envelopes, everything out of the envelopes." I ask
her what about people with appointments or is it first come, first serve?
Three of us follow her to the head of the line and she looks at all of our
documents then proceeds to tell me she needs my vehicle registration. Why?
I don't know; a lot of people have drivers licenses but no vehicle.
Fortunately, my car is 30 feet away and I trot out there to retrieve that
document.

As soon as we walk in the building they are calling my name. The Asian
lady said she'd called my name 2 or 3 times and I told her I was standing
in line outside with the rest of inmates. I didn't want to risk going to
the head of line and risk getting beat up so I stood there like a dummy.
:o)

We're moving right along and she wants to know if I took the online class
for the handgun carry permit. I told I am renewing the enhanced (open
carry) permit and she doesn't seem to understand and calls over another
clerk. Clerk points on the screen that I'm renewing and not applying for
the new no open carry permit.

After two new pictures are snapped and I've handed over my life history in
documents I'm issued a new temporary license with the two new id's to
come in the mail.

I just love these adventures like I love beating myself in the head with
a hammer.

I've got a few years left on my DL , and Arkansas is a Constitutional
Carry state . Open carry everywhere not prohibited (courthouses , bars ,
etc) and concealed carry when on a "journey" - which means any time out
of my home county . I hope I never have to use that cap-n-ball revolver
, cleaning it is a chore .

Not to mention trying to find a speed loader for it.

The new drivers license is good for another 8 years and the previous one
was renewed 5 years ago.

Tennessee enacted another gun permit back in January and it's cheaper than
the enhanced one in that you can take an online course. But that online
course will not allow you to open carry and I suspect people will open
carry no matter which permit they have. A lot of the legislature were
afraid this 'relaxed' gun permit would cause problems when traveling to
other states and they would not recognize any of the gun permits.
