Lol. If it still works the way it did a couple of years ago, you have
to delete your account and then not go there for 2 weeks. If you go
there before the 2 weeks are over, you reactivate your account. So
don't go back after a week to see if it's already gone. This requires
a minimum amount of self control...

really remember why as I have used Agent almost since its inception.

Some changes in settings, that's all...here is the email:

We’re changing your Google Groups settings experience starting May 6, 2019
Inbox
x

Google Groups <groups-...@google.com>
Fri, Feb 8, 1:21 PM
to me

"Dear Google group owner or manager,

We’re writing to let you know about changes we’re making to the settings experience of Google Groups.

In response to your feedback, we’re updating the Groups’ settings experience starting May 6, 2019. The goal is to make it easier for you to manage and configure your groups.

About these changes:

We’re removing some rarely-used settings and features, and we’re combining similar settings. Learn more about the settings changes.

We’ll start rolling out these changes on May 6, 2019, though you might not see changes until May 21, 2019.

When the changes take effect, we’ll automatically update the settings for existing groups to map to the new experience.

Important notes:

Some group members may lose access to group management features. Depending on your current settings, some group members who currently can access specific group management features may lose that access. To make sure group members have the right access, you may want to audit your groups and adjust the settings before May 6, 2019.

Settings for groups you currently own or manage will be updated to match the new settings. Note: You can change your group settings at any point.
Groups you create after May 6th will have the new settings by default.
We recommend you audit your groups settings after the changes to confirm your groups are set up the way you want.

If you need help, visit our Help Center.
Sincerely,
The Google Groups Team.."

They'll show you targeted ads about items you've ever Googled or

googling incontinence diapers, they may then be chased by diaper ads

And if you have an Android phone, Google owns android and tracks
everything you do. I do not use android phones, google, gmail, or
facebook. I have facebook blocked on my browser because even if you dont
use FB, they stick their ugly nose in your browsing. Facebook is EVIL!

Besides that, NEVER use your real name or other personal info online,
and clear your browser cache and cookies at least once a day. I clear
mine every 2 hours when I am online. Makes the browser faster too.

This is NOT true. I have an Android phone, and they do not track me at all
because before my last 'factory reset', I changed my gmail password. I have
never given my gmail address to my phone. I don't use my gmail for any
business or service-related activity on the web. Plus, I de-activated data
on my cell-phone.

I only use gmail for email with family & friends. I do this explicietely so
that I more easily remember the account & password. If I ever become lost,
I know how to activate data and use google maps.

I have left 'location service' active on the phone only because of the
off-chance that I ever have an accident where the air-bags are deployed and
I am physically unable to press the 'phone' button to prevent the car radio
computer from making a 911 call with my proper location.

Most people, it seems. People don't seem to WANT to truly interact with other humans, they'd rather just post their shit ON A PUBLIC BILLBOARD and hope people read it as they wander by! ;-)

And it is in THIS WAY Social Media is destroying IRL human interaction! People don't seem to know how, or want to know how to interact IRL with other humans, just safely behind their screens of Social Media sites! :-(

You really should be able to slap some people upside the head for being
so clueless.

Best I ever saw was a woman so chubby she had to lean on her shopping
cart. She was coming one way and I was going the other. There was a skid
of stock parked in the aisle. I could have made it through, but I made
the mistake of stopping to let her through. I didn't really expect any
thanks but I sure didn't expect her to stop there. They she had to look
around and check every item within reach. I waited, not particularly
patiently, and she stayed there picking up cans and jars and checking
them out. Meanwhile there are other people stuck behind us. I guess
the woman behind her had had enough and she rammed her cart into the
woman, causing her to whine and carry on. I looked at the woman who
rammed her, smiled and gave her a thumbs up.

I don't know if people are just stupid or are just unaware of their
surroundings. Walking alone, I tend not to notice as much and just go
around the idiots, but if I'm pushing my wife in a wheelchair I not is
much more. I'm talking about the people that leave their cart in the
middle of the aisle, crooked, then take some steps way to look at
something blocking the aisle completely. I never say anything, but a
couple did not realize their car disappeared around the corner.

The mother pushing one of the oversized kid carts, one inside, the other
about 8, walking along side. For no known reason they stop right in the
doorway. Move three feet and stop again. Move three feet and stop again.

The couple going one way and meet another couple going the other way.
Just stop and chat, don't move to one side to let others go by.

A few months ago I had a guy following me who was texting. He had a
couple stop lights along the way. I got to my turn and he was going the
same way I was. The light turned red, so his face was down while we sat
there. The light turned green. I stayed there. I checked the mirror and
he was still texting, and there was no one else to be inconvenienced, so
I stayed there. The light turned yellow. I waited a moment and then made
my turn. When I looked back his head was still down as he worked on his
text. Best part was that he was no longer following me.

Yes, its annoying. And seeing as how you have very few friend on
there, all of whom never "like" your shares and never respond, yes -
you're doing it annoyingly. Exactly like what you do here.

They're called "share happy people". They share a bunch of mindless
shit without any comments and bombard your feed. I just dump them as
facebook friends.

If they were real friends in real life, they'd tell you to shut the
fuck up. So that's where we come in.

Specifically, Google Play Services is the largest, most "ambitious",
most invasive piece of spyware ever installed in any electronic
device (and not by the Government).

I just use Privacy Badger. The ad blockers (uBlock Origin for me)
are also doing a bunch of that, too. Blocking Facebook is less than
1% of the tracking.

Or you could just use something like Cookie Autodelete. Clearing
your cache doesn't do anything for tracking/spying. It actually
speeds your browser up.

How is your phone communicating your location if data is turned off?
It can't do through NFC or Bluetooth. The most anything can do is
use tower triangulation to ping your phone for a rough estimate.
Your service provider is already tracking you that way regardless of
Location Services. I don't even need to turn that on for Lyft and
Uber.

My wife has to get 30 CEU credits to renew her nursing licence. She's taken a course in bullying - 1 credit hour, and bi-polar disorder - 2 credit hours. There are people with some mental illness on this group. My wife works at the psychiatric hospital in our little town. She's used to working with people with mental illness. What she'd be horrified is the bullying and abuse that you goofballs dish out to people with mental illness. This group will have historical significance because it's a permanent documentation of the evil that men do when they believe that they have free rein from social norms/ideals.

Sometimes it is hard to tell where the mental illness stops and simply
being an asshole begins. You worry about him being bullied but in his
mind he is unaffected by the criticism because his manic self is quite
convinced that he is the genius in the room. Then there are the denizens
of the group with narcissistic personality disorders who want to be the
centre of attention. They tell ridiculous stories and lies because
they want people to reply and to talk to them or about them. They really
don't care if the replies are negative. They would rather be insulted
than ignored.

I do not believe it is. I presumed that location services need to be on in
order for the GPS to be active. Hopefully, the emergency software engineers
took this into account when designing the 911 auto-dial feature.

In the near future, these devices will be recording/monitoring/transmitting bio-metric, geo-location, socialization, activity levels, and other data. The boomers will be terrorized of the technology. The younger generation will think it's cool.

You have that back to front. The vast majority of boomers are
sufficiently robust and resilient to cope with technology and social
media; and everyday life in the real world.

It's the younger generation whose sense of self-worth and independence
has been so distorted and eroded by social technology that increasing
numbers are struggling (in education, relationships, employability).

As far as I know, there is no tie-in between location services and a
911 call. Only triangulation. I don't want to look it up now, but
I will tomorrow.

And as son as you ever connect to data, any and all of your location
data gets transmitted to google with your phone number, if not your
gmail account. As well as a bunch of others stuff it's been queueing
for transmission, without your gmail account.

My phone doesn't know my gmail account either. Better yet, I
sideload all the apps on my phone outside of Google Play.

OK, I looked it up. Google Android does share location services
with 9111 calls. But only for the last 5 months and ONLY if you
have the latest Google Play Services installed and active (which as
I said earlier, is the biggest single piece of spyware ever
developed).

This is just more proof that they will do everything in their power
to trick you into making sure you Google Play Services installed and
updated, which is why I disable it and never update.

What does Google Play Services have to do with 911 calls, or any
other calls, anyway? Nothing. But they try and make sure you have
it running to be able to use your phone's most important features
(which are used to track everything you do). I would jump on a
smart phone with a truly private OS, but they don't exist. And the
Government will thwart it. I'm using 4.4.2 Android on my mos-used t
phone as there's less spyware to disable.

If you have Google Play Services running, you're just fucked.

The best you can do is a Google free iPhone. Only trust apps from the
App Store. Take it to the bank.
Apple sells hardware with excellent software to support it and nothing
else. Microsoft is a software vendor who has a near monopoly on running
their software on cheap hardware, including their own. Microsoft has
been malware ridden since it's inception.
Google, Android, Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, etc., only have
information about you to sell. If a Android OS is on your phone,
they're selling you. But you knew that.

Apple is their iPhone is doing the same thing as Google. For 20-40X
the cost (I pay $20 or less for all my smart phones, I have 4 of
them not including the ones I've retired)

Yea, but on usenet, you are not being targetted by advertisers, you dont
have to give away your identity to register, and you dont even need to
use your real name.

When the internet was first started, the users were just based on user
names which you created. Back then, the internet was supposed to be
entirely free (except for paying a ISP provider to get you online). Back
then advertising was banned and people who did it were all considered
spammers and were tossed offline. I know this because I was there. I was
one of the first people to use the internet in my city. Prior to that, I
was using a BBS (local bulletin board), to contact others, and we had in
person parties and get togethers, so we got to know most of the people
we spoke to online.

Usenet was the FIRST socal media, but it was done right.... Back then,
it was mostly used by universities to share information about the topic
that was related to that newsgroup. Back then, people were helpful, and
respectful most of the time. I should mention that this was BEFORE the
web even existed. The internet was mostly usenet and email back then.
Little or no graphics. People did ascii are to make their messages look
nice. It was a whole different world.

Even the early web was totally different than today. The early web was
very useful and informative. It added pictures to the mostly text based
usenet, and allowed for persons to create their own websites. Geocities
was the best. It was a community of people who each had their own
"space" in an organized manner, on the internet. It had no, set
appearance, or rules to follow (unlike Facebook). You could be yourself
and express in your own manner. Some of those sites were true works of
art, while most were just text with a few pictures. No one was banned
from posting anything, unless someone was downright abusive or vulgar.
If you wanted to post "how to make bombs", you did. If others did not
like it, they did not go to that site.

Today's internet is not even close to the early days. If I rated it now,
it would get a very low score for usefulness and satisfaction. Back in
the 90's I would have given it a very high score. Back then, just going
online was fun. Now it's a battle, because everytime you go to a site,
you are fighting off a zillion advertisers, spammers, and identity
thefts. Since google decided that they own the internet, it's gone
downhill very fast.

I only see it getting worse. I suspect it will end up like the CB radio
craze of the 70s. It will soon be dead as far as personal sharing. It
will nothing more than a place to buy and sell. And even that is
questionable, since sites such as ebay are now charging sales tax and
other issues which have sent me back to local brick and mortar stores.

The future of the internet is NOT bright. If you dont want to get caught
up in the worst parts of it, avoid the three worst sites. Facebook,
Google, and Amazon.
