That's right! Today is ...

National Sneak Some Zucchini onto Your Neighbor's Porch Day!

(Don't believe me? Look it up!)

To celebrate this amazing holiday, last night's dinner was this savory zucchini galette from King Arthur Flour:

https://www.kingarthurbaking.com/recipes/savory-zucchini-galette-recipe

Zucchini, grape tomatoes, and fresh basil from our garden. It was excellent, IIDSSM. Along with our first regular tomatoes of the season (eaten plain, nothing else needed) and some sweet corn from the neighbor down the street, freshly picked.

LOL on the cat in the sink! Looks like my cat Persia (RB).

The galette looks tasty! I was thinking about your zucchini glut the
other day. Other ways I'd use zucchini would be to shred it and make
zucchini pancakes - similar to potato latkes with the obvious difference
being zucchini.

Zucchini is excellent split lengthwise, brushed with a little oil and
grilled. Or you could slice it into coins, batter (think tempura
batter) and fry it. It's also nice grated into tomato sauce. :)

Thanks.

I have a whole long list of zucchini things to make. I've already made pancakes, zoocanoes, zoodles, zucchini-tomato impossible pie (recipes all over the net) and the above mentioned galette.

And the cat pic is because today is also International Cat Day! Woo-hoo for us cat lovers. Not only that but that guy really *is* an *international* cat; he wandered into our AirBnB room in Mexico in January, jumped into my open suitcase, and said, "Take me home with you!" Turns out the B&B host rescued strays, and he was, so we did.

You're ahead of the game, then! :) When I was a teenager my dad had a
backyard garden. He always had way too many zucchini. Yes, he used to
sneak them onto the neighbors porches. LOL Tomatoes, too.

How cool is that? Nice he chose you! And now he's at home in the sink. :)

My cat Persia (I never did figure out where she came from) barged up to
my back door one cold January evening in TN and yowled until I let her
in. She wouldn't take no for an answer. I live here, dammit, open the
door! Grey-blue cats definitely have cattitude. :)

I can attest to this. The Great Pumpkin knows I don't like zucchini
(or pumpkin, for that matter) so I got a different kind of
cucurbitaceae on my doorstep this morning:

Suckers and your zucchini! Hah!

For a moment I thought I was looking at a Strawberry Pizza. Maybe I
was.

Cats love containers that are a tight fit.

I'm with you on the dislike of zucchini and pumpkin. I can only tolerate
them when they used for either a pumpkin roll or zucchini muffins.

I am fortunate to have had a pleasant introduction to zucchini,
something I never had until I met my wife. She slices the zucchini into
rounds about 1/4 inch thick. She blanches them in boiling water, drains
them and then fries them in a shallow pan with a lots of olive oil. They
are browned on one side, about a minute or two. Then she flips them over
and sprinkles them with grated Parmesan.

Is there a more neutral food item than zucchini? It's like an empty
canvas waiting for the painter.

Tofu.

I usually grill zucchini.

Yes, that's another one. People who say it has little flavour are
right, but they also don't get it.

About 30 years ago, Z stir-fried with cumin was served to me at a dinner
party. I wish I had asked the hostess about the method as the
ingredients were obvious. I've tried but have never been able to
duplicate that dish.

And it's that time of the year when Ratatouille is on the menu in my
house:-)

True. I like tofu every which way, from cold and doused in Japanese
soy sauce to Ma Po Tofu.
