Looks good, as usual. I notice that the cucumbers have about half the
peel removed.

Some people do not like the texture / taste of the peel. Some people are
okay with it. But why remove only half?

Visual appeal as I usually leave about half the peel on cucumbers.

Because it doesn't have to be all or nothing. My husband prefers about
half the peel that a cucumber naturally comes with. While I'm prepping,
I generally eat the peelings.

What kind of person "prefers about half the peel that a cucumber

Perhaps that is Sqwertz' reason. Others have mentioned that it may be
strictly for presentation. I do have to admit that most of his pix look
appetizing, but I don't think Sqwertz is ever going to end up with one of
his meals on a magazine cover.

Please. The thought makes me queasy. I think it's more the texture than
the taste. I have admitted in the past to always peeling bell peppers,
apples, etc.

I also peel pickled cucumbers. Usually, I'll do the whole jar, slice them
lengthwise, and run the juice through a coffee filter so I don't end up
with stems & seeds in my burgers, etc.

For a while when I was young, I ate the entire apple: core, seeds, and all.

That's a little extreme, but if it makes you happy, go for it.

I generally don't put pickles on burgers, but I often have one or two
on the side. If it has a little stem left on it, I cut that off.
OTOH, I buy small gherkins, so the seeds are not much of an issue.

So did my dad. If you also eat rabbits' eyes, it's becoming uncanny.

At home, I do the same. Sometimes a pickle on the side but not
on the burger. Whatever kind of thin ones that McDonald's uses
are pretty good though...even on their burgers.

I will peel a cucumber but never a pickle. I also eat the
seeds in either/both. I never de-seed a tomato either.

You may enjoy a forked cuke, striated.
Kirby/Pickling cukes aren't peeled so you'll enjoy those natural

I'm not taking photos for magazine covers. Those take hours to
assemble. By the time a dish is photoworthy enough for a magazine
over, it's inedible - if it's even real food and not Play-Doh.

I spend no more than 45 seconds plating/arranging/photographing
before I eat. Some come out good, other not so great. IDGAS. My
photos are for quick inspiration. Half the photos in books and
magazines don't even match their recipe and directions anyway.

And I don't like the full peel. Peeling them this way gives me
little strips of peel for texture and also presentation. The rest
goes in the trash or disposal.

Wow. Aren't the seeds still in the spears or do you core them too?

McDonalds used salt brined pickled which are gawd awful. They sit
in salt vats for up to 12 months then are desalinated again with
fresh water, then flavored with vinegar and whatever the fuck else.

"Fresh Pack" only for me. These are pickles that have gone from farm
fresh to jar. Even better are the fermented "live" pickles (but
expensive).

That's interesting to know. I've never cared much for salt
brined pickles. I guess because their slices are so thin and
also flavored with the burger....

Then I'm a little confused as to why you strain the brine. Just so the

What do you mean by salt brined pickles... do you mean fermented? I
only like fermented but not with burgers, they are better with
dawgs... best with pastrami/corned beef on rye. And never sliced
unless into spears... sliced into little rounds they lose their
crunch. I never eat those unrefrigerated vinegar pickles, like they
have at fast food joints, they're disgusting.

And clumps of dill weed. It's easier to dump the bottle to separate the
pickles anyway.

And I always thought that fries (or 'chips', as they say in the UK) no longer taste salty enough when dipped in vinegar.
