It's a crusted rack of lamb. There are some small potatoes roasting in
a pan next to the lamb, some asparagus waiting to be steamed, and a
salad with blue cheese dressing.

Sounds good. I like rack of lamb but never had it crusted.

Veal chop, baked potato, & salad here.

It turned out great. I was a little disappointed in the degree of
doneness. I had followed the instructions, seared it on all sides,
quickly smeared it with Dijon, pressed the crumb mixture on and then
into the preheated oven. It said 20-25 minutes. I set the timer for 22
minutes, stuck the thermometer in and it was only 120. I gave it
another 5 minutes. Then I started the other stuff.

I let the lamb sit for 10 minutes and when I started separating the ribs
most of them were darned near raw. I put the hot pan on the burner
and cut the ribs. Three of the seven were nicely cooked. The rest went
into the pan and got a minute on each side. They turned out to be
wonderful. My wife and I thought they were the best we had ever had.

I haven't had vela chops in ages. FWIW, the first veal chop I ever had
were crusted. They were amazing. I keep meaning to do them at home. I
have grilled them a few times, but the crusted chops were the best.

I had a good run for lamb chops for a while when we were in CT. They
did not sell well in our town and Tuesday was the day the near
expiration packages were marked down to half price or less. A couple of
times a month I'd grab a package.

Every few months I head here for the Veal chops and other Italian

Sometime, I'm going to make a peanut butter and banana sandwich. Wasn't
that a Elvis favorite? Where I live, I've never seen anyone eat one.
I assume that all I need are peanut butter, sliced banana, (white?)
bread and, maybe butter?

Since I'm a neophyte, how about peanut butter and banana on cinnamon toast?

i wouldn't put butter on it. Mom puts butter on almost
every sandwich but not all of them need it.

i also don't much like it on plain white bread, something
more like unbleached or a mix of whole wheat and unbleached
is much better.

White bread.

Ripe banana (a few freckles on the peel denote the banana is getting sweeter
and a little softer. Yum!) Sliced into planks (my favorite way to slice one) or
you can slice it into rounds. It doesn't matter as it will stick to the peanut butter.

No butter unless you plan to toast your sandwich but that will make the
peanut butter quite gooey. Peanut butter smeared on toast though is quite
good and yes, gooey.

You'll wonder why you've waited all these years to enjoy one.

The reason I asked was because I put butter on both pieces of bread for
a PB&J and on both sides of both slices of bread for a grilled cheese
sandwich. It's a habit, but I'm unlikely to change .

My son ordered an Elvis pancake in Waikiki. It's quite an interesting combination. You can also do a challenge to get your pancakes free but my guess is that he ordered the large Elvis it so all his friends could dig in. For just a split second, you get to feel like Elvis Presley. That's a very good thing.

Fresh white bread, peanut butter and sliced banana.

The hard part is getting a good rye bread. The sliced packaged stuff is
crap. You have to get a loaf from a bakery that makes the real deal.

There was a bakery in the Polish section of Philadelphia that was only
open two days a week and people came from miles around to get their
bread. Easter and Christmas the line was much longer than usual.

"Arnold" brand seeded jewish rye is good (grocery store item)
Other brands, not so good.

I also prefer "Arnold" for multigrain bread.
Much better than Pepperidge Farm breads.

It's a real treat when you get a good locally made, freshly baked rye,
but they are extremely rare around here. A nearby city has pretty good
eastern European store and bakery, but even they don't sell good rye bread.

That it does! My rye bread is:

1 1/3 c rye
2 2/3 c bread flour (20% spelt mix)
2 TB butter
2 TB sugar or mix of 1 TB brown and 1 TB white
2 tsp salt
2 tsp yeast
1 cup milk
1 cup 1/3 water
optional: 1 TB caraway seeds

This makes a somewhat sturdy bread that toasts well and holds up to
gravy laden sandwiches like meatloaf and gravy or pastrami with lots of
gooie mellted cheese. Excellent toasting bread.

That's much better than Arnold brand. Both are typically on store

Rye is my next choice. I wouldn't say it's (Beefsteak) good, it's
satisfactory, better than no rye bread at all.

Working in a donut shop as a baker and in a pizzeria as a grunt who
made dough, sauce, sliced cheese and pepperoni, etc, and did custodial
tasks when i was in my mid teens must have done something to me. When
making the spinners (dumplings) for the Oxtail Stew I posted about a
month-ish back it reminded me how much I dislike working with dough. The
closest I get to making bread is from pre-made frozen dough.

We used to buy Rich Products proof and bake frozen dough. Isn't
available anymore at retailers, have to buy it in bulk. We uses Rhodes
now, i think she gets it at Walmart.

https://rhodesbakenserv.com/rhodes-products-2/thaw-rise-bake

The only thing that beats a warm loaf of bread fresh out of the oven
would be like at Cindy's house where the dough is home made. :)

Trust Gary to recommend a science project :)

Arnold Bread, Jewish Rye, Seedless:
UNBLEACHED ENRICHED WHEAT FLOUR [FLOUR, MALTED BARLEY FLOUR, REDUCED
IRON, NIACIN, THIAMIN MONONITRATE (VITAMIN B1), RIBOFLAVIN (VITAMIN
B2), FOLIC ACID], WATER, RYE FLOUR, SUGAR, SOYBEAN OIL, YEAST, SALT,
GROUND CARAWAY, MOLASSES, PRESERVATIVES (CALCIUM PROPIONATE, SORBIC
ACID), GRAIN VINEGAR, MONOGLYCERIDES, DATEM, GARLIC POWDER, ONION
POWDER, FUMARIC ACID, GROUND DILL SEED, ACETIC ACID, LACTIC ACID, SOY
LECITHIN, HYDROGENATED SOYBEAN OIL, WHEAT GLUTEN, NATURAL FLAVOR,

Yes, better than Arnold's, but still:
Enriched wheat flour (wheat flour, barley malt, niacin, iron, thiamin
mononitrate, riboflavin, folic acid), water, rye flour, contains 2 %
or less of the. following: caraway seeds, yeast, salt, soybean oil,
calcium propionate (preservative), dough conditioner (monoglycerides),
vinegar, yeast nutrient (ammonium sulfate), onions, corn meal,
monocalcium phosphate, ascorbic acid.

Still a typical supermarket bread. And soybean oil in bread? Get outta
here.

I cooked dinner in an automatic rice cooker. Shoyu chicken - it's chicken, water, shoyu, sugar, and ginger. That's all. You boil it for 40 minutes to an hour. rfc has made me a little wary of the chicken so I made sure to rinse it off first. The chicken was packed for my wife's lunch.

I did fried rice with chicken and egg plus green onion and
yellow/orange/red mini-bell peppers last night. We had it with mild
fresh kimchee using cabbage, carrots and gochujang.

Gosh, I have to laugh. We sound like aliens to mainland USA almost I

No, actually, here on the shitty mainland, there are many asians.
We've had them for several centuries. Most of them are not clannish
and live exactly the same as other people here. They have
contributed to our society the same as most other peoples.

You and Tojo might be surprised that we have lot's of other people
too. We have mexicans, arabs, jews, europeans, and people from tiny
countries that you and Tojo have never heard of. We even have
negroes from dozens of countries. They too are citizens, just like
you and Tojo. But You, and Tojo are special and different.

These people are American citizens. They accept the likes of you,
and even Uncle Tojo and me.

Won't you consider accepting them?

There are many American people who are not asians, and are not even
from Sasebo.

You, and uncle Tojo are wearing eye blinders, like those used on
draft horses in the 19th century to keep them focused on pulling
the wagon.

You can take those blinders off, and look around. I don't know if
poor uncle can do that.

<APPLAUSE>

Every time I see Unca Tojo spout off his ignernt prejudiced crap, I'm reminded of a lovely woman I was blessed to
meet and know, many years ago now...

Her name? In popular WWII history, she was known as "Tokyo Rose" - her real name was Iva Toguri...

She was in Japan, visiting elderly relatives, when Pearl Harbor happened - so she was stuck in
Japan. She was coerced into making English - language propaganda radio broadcasts in order to survive...

After the war the Americans imprisoned her under false pretenses, she spent years being hounded, and it was
not until 1977 that President Ford pardoned her...

She eventually moved to Chicago, opening a lovely Japanese mini - department store, "J. Toguri Mercantile" at
the corner of Clark and Belmont, south of Wrigley Field It prospered, and she raised a loving family... they bought
property cheap in that area when it was a dump, and became wealthy when the area gentrified... they more
than deserved their eventual good fortune...

I met her in the late 70's, she was good friends with an uncle of mine. After that, whenever I visited her store, she'd come
out and say, "Oh, Greg, HONEY, how are you!?"... we'd chat and have some laughs, a cup of tea and a cookie...

She was not one bit bitter, despite that bad hands she'd been dealt. She'd say, "You know, I have a nice life...", she
never mentioned the past bad things...

She was a friend and mentor to many. She helped many who were down on their luck - she was a saint IMNSHO...

At the age of 90 she was still in her store, working four days per week - she worked her ass off until a month before
she passed, she had BOUNDLESS energy, and a zest for life... her memorial service had HUNDREDS in attendance...

So we say to you UNCA TOJO - why don't you take a lesson from lovely Iva, instead of being the HORSE'S ARSE that
you are...

She had a STRENGTH of CHARACTER that you LACK...

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Iva_Toguri_D%27Aquino

"Toguri was born in Los Angeles, and was a daughter of Japanese immigrants. Her father, Jun Toguri, had come to
the U.S. in 1899, and her mother, Fumi, in 1913.  Iva was a Girl Scout, and was raised as a Christian...

Tokyo Rose ceased to be merely a symbol during September 1945 when Iva Toguri D'Aquino, a Japanese-American
disc jockey for a propagandist radio program, attempted to return to the United States. Toguri was accused of being
the "real" Tokyo Rose, arrested, tried, and became the seventh person in U.S. history to be convicted of treason...

Toguri was eventually paroled from prison in 1956, but it was more than twenty years later that she received an official
presidential pardon for her role in the war...

After World War II ended in 1945, the U.S. military detained Toguri for a year before releasing her due to lack of evidence.
Department of Justice officials agreed that her broadcasts were "innocuous". But when Toguri tried to return to the
United States, an uproar ensued because Walter Winchell (a powerful broadcasting personality) and the American Legion
lobbied relentlessly for a trial, prompting the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) to renew its investigation of
Toguri's wartime activities. Her 1949 trial resulted in a conviction on one of eight counts of treason...

In 1974, investigative journalists found that important witnesses had asserted that they were forced to lie during
testimony. They stated that FBI and US occupation police had coached them for more than two months about
what they should say on the stand, and that they had been threatened with treason trials themselves if they did
not cooperate. U.S. President Gerald Ford pardoned Toguri in 1977 based on these revelations and earlier
issues with the indictment...

On January 15, 2006, the World War II Veterans Committee awarded Toguri its annual Edward J. Herlihy Citizenship
Award, citing "her indomitable spirit, love of country, and the example of courage she has given her fellow
Americans".

According to one biographer, Toguri found it the most memorable day of her life...

Toguri died of natural causes in a Chicago hospital on September 26, 2006, at the age of 90..."

Yup! I's send pictures but once I lost my win10 machine (died), I got
a win11 and it doesn't like xananews. XP does but that machine has
limited internet access.

I like the cashew chicken but not into celery. I'd have used flat
Italian green beens then colorful bell peppers and a little garlic
chili paste (Vietnam product).

Tonight is all sort of midland USA with a pasta dish. The sauce is a
white sauce (same as Beuchamel if I spelled that right) and seasonings
similar to ranch dressing plus Vietmamese garlic chili sauce (just a
little) and a mix of Romano and Parmesan. Colorful bell peppers and
green onions, cabbage and carrots, plus yellow hot onion and Don wanted
some meat tonight so 12oz keilbasa.

Serving it with garlic bread from a dryng out a touch, french loaf made
3 days ago that got butter/garlic'd. Also mini-peach pies made in
spring roll wrappers with brown sugar and brushed with Maple syrup.
The jug pours too much so put a dolup in a microwave bowl and nuke for
20 seconds then use a pastry brush),

There's still Macy's around - just not in our little town. We never had a Dilard's and JCPenney has been gone from Hawaii for decades. I bought a sport coat from JCPenney before we moved to the mainland. It probably cost a lot of money - $30 or so and was pretty nice. I wonder what happened to that jacket. I wore it when our company went to lunch at Benihana restaurant. I got a look of approval from my boss - he liked my jacket. That guy was such a dick - the worst ever.

That was on the mainland. I would never wear such a getup on this rock. That would be wrong. I would wear that monkey suit when going on interviews on the mainland. One day some guy with nylon surfer shorts and a tank top came in for an interview at the company I was working for in California. It was pretty funny up until the point that he got the job. He was like a surfing golden boy and we called him "Blonde." He turned out to be an okay dude.
When I got back from the mainland, I would wear a dress shirt and tie when looking for a job. These days, I'd never do that. I'd wear something like this.
