That is what my friend's father did. The sister suffers from depression.
She had been living in a seedy apartment smoking cigarettes and eating
only pizza. The father had acquired a considerable estate. He arranged
to leave some for his wife and the rest to his four kids. One of the
sons was the executor and he liquidated all the properties and assets.
The wife, two sons and one daughter got paid out but the depressed
daughter's share went into a trust account.
We had tried to do that for my cousin when her mother died. I had been
the PoA and my older brother was the executor. Since her mother had
already died it was to let to set up a trust fund unless she agreed. She
he refused and wanted her money immediately. She then blew it all. She
had been on a disability pension and lost that when she inherited all
that money. After blowing it all in a short time she had a hell of a
time getting that pension reinstated.
