Goya 'buy-cott' begins as customers load up on product after Trump backlash
The CEO of Goya Foods sparked backlash when he praised President Trump

"Many took to social media to express their displeasure with Goya Foods CEO Robert Unanue after he praised President Trump at a White House event on Thursday, but others are flipping the narrative and calling for a Goya Foods "buy-cott."

GOYA FOODS SLAMMED BY AOC, CELEBRITIES AFTER CEO PRAISES TRUMP

"My brother came up with a terrific idea and I am encouraging all to join me in purchasing $10 worth of Goya Foods products and donating them to your local food bank," self-described "conservatarian" radio host Mike Opelka wrote on Twitter. "Let's push a BUY-cott, not a boycott. Let's show the #Goyaway people what compassion can do.

Opelka's post received 27,000 likes.

"Go out today and buy your Goya foods," Fox News host Mark Levin wrote on Twitter.

"Most of these people fronting about a #GOYABOYCOTT either don't use Goya Foods anyways [a]nd most of the ones who do will cave by #NocheBuena," Sen. Marco Rubio, R-Fla., wrote on Twitter along with an "I Love Goya" graphic.

The controversy has inspired some Goya Foods fans to give back. Virginia resident Casey Harper started a GoFundMe on Saturday to buy Goya products to donate food pantries. The page is already more than halfway to its $10,000 goal.

"I'm not surprised we have raised so much because people are tired of having to walk on eggshells in political discourse," Harper told FOX Business. "Also, Americans are fundamentally generous people so a chance to feed the hungry and stand up to cancel culture was an easy win."

Goya Foods touted its charitable giving on Friday after calls for a boycott, including from progressive Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez. Goya Foods said it has given "two million pounds of food to food banks across the nation who are in desperate need of food for families impacted by COVID19."

Robert Unanue, head of the New Jersey-based company, said Friday the boycott is "a reflection of a division that exists today in our country" that is "killing our nation."

We're with the president. We're with this country — right, left, center, up and down," Unanue told "Varney & Co."

Goya Foods claims to be the largest Hispanic-owned food label in the country.

Unanue said Americans were "truly blessed" to have Trump as a leader while speaking at a Hispanic Prosperity Initiative at the White House on Thursday.

FOX Business' inquiry to Goya Foods was not returned at the time of publication..."

Goya foods slammed by AOC, celebrities after CEO praises Trump

Goya is facing backlash after its CEO made positive comments about President Donald Trump.

Politicians and celebrities are boycotting Goya, which claims to be the largest Hispanic-owned food company in the country, after its CEO, Robert Unanue, spoke at a Rose Garden event for a Hispanic Prosperity Initiative on Thursday.

Goya Foods CEO Robert Unanue not apologizing for Trump support amid boycott

Robert Unanue says boycott is 'a reflection of a division that exists today in our country'

The CEO of Goya Foods is not apologizing for supporting President Trump in a move that's sparked outrage among politicians and thought leaders calling for Americans to boycott its products.

Robert Unanue, the head of the New Jersey-based company that claims to be the largest Hispanic-owned food label in the country, told FOX Business Friday the boycott is "a reflection of a division that exists today in our country" that is "killing our nation."

We choose to love and to build and that’s what we’ve been doing, looking for prosperity," Unanue said on FOX Business Network's "Varney & Company," where he continued to defend Trump.

“We’re with the president. We're with this country -- right, left, center, up and down," Unanue said.

Unanue was invited to speak at the White House on Thursday for Trump’s Hispanic Prosperity Initiative, an executive order to bolster education and economic opportunities for Hispanic Americans. During the event, Unanue briefly remarked on the company's history, which was founded in 1936 by Unanue’s grandfather who immigrated to the U.S. from Spain.

"We're all truly blessed at the same time to have a leader like President Trump, who is a builder," Unanue said, relating Trump to the company's founding story. "That’s what my grandfather did, he came to this country to build, to grow to prosper. And so we have an incredible builder and we pray for our leadership, our president, and our country that we will continue to prosper and to grow.” Unanue went on to say Goya would donate 1 million cans of Goya chickpeas and 1 million of the New Jersey-based company’s other food products to American food banks aimed at helping those impacted by the coronavirus pandemic..."

The whole thing is silly, IMO. I don't care what he thinks of the
president. I would be more concerned how they treat their employees and
the growers of what they buy from farmers.

Also nice they are donating to a food bank too.

I won't buy Goya products. I drove over to East St. Louis today to shop at a Mexican grocery store to buy salsa, and an avocado, and while I was there, I bought a bag of dried pinto beans. Next time, I should leave a letter about Goya Foods, written in English, about why I, an ethnic European who loves Mexican food, will not buy Goya because Goya supports anti-Mexican political candidates, and that I am glad that Mexicans are here because I adore their food.

If you support the cause of the "Dreamers," you should not buy Goya.

heritage. He is not so supportive of those in other countries trying to
get here by violating our laws. Viva Goya!

Many of those are now heading up here to Canada. They have refugee
claims in the US but they are likely to be rejected. Since we have a
safe third country deal with the US, those people who not be admitted if
they came through at a regular border crossing, so they go to
"irregular" border points. they just walk across and get processed and
they end up with welfare and housing while their asylum applications are
processed, A lot of them are eventually rejected, but by that time they
have disappeared.

I think it's pretty asinine to base your (mostly insignificant)
buying decisions on somebody's political beliefs - pro or con. And I
think it's sill that people call for boycotts (or buycutts) based on
"We should hate them because they don't agree with me".

If Trump himself had a line of foods, I would definitely not buy
them. Unless he had anchovy-stuffed olives - because Goya's are the
worst (I still buy them, as even the sucky ones are good).

That's a great idea.

Goya doesn't produce much of anything I want to buy, so I don't need to
increase or decrease my purchases. I still think Unanue is a dork
for claiming 'Suppression of speech'. He has the freedom to speak,
and also the freedom to take the consequences. We all have that freedom.

I object to Eden Foods' politics, but I still buy their wasabi powder

I just bought 12 cans of a competing brand just to fuck over Goya.

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00FA3QLJ6/

Besides, they're $17 cheaper. Goya stuff is s ripoff. They have pay
extra for the premium shelving/placement in grocery stores, and that
price is passed onto the consumers.

I've never watched either show as much of what's aired on broadcast TV is
just garbage. I'm assuming both of these shows are on broadcast TV and
I won't even mention those 'reality' shows.

UGH! You can't even get on the internet without some earth-shattering story
about them. Go to the grocery store, Walmart, Target, etc. and there's a
rag disguised as a magazine with their mugs plastered on the front.

Who are these worthless people and how did they get a tv show?

Money. Those programs deliver lots of viewers, resulting in a
good stream of ad revenue. And the shows are much cheaper to
produce than a scripted show.

I'm pretty sure you can find out how the show came about if you
consult Wikipedia, but money is the root cause.

I don't get it. I am not into "reality" shows. I don't give a rat's ass
about celebrity's private lives, so I sure as hell don't care about the
drama of these twits who have had way more than their 15 minutes of fame.

Wow. that read like shit. I just had surgery and the anaesthetics
are wearing off - so I've introduced some self-prescribed ones.

You will be upset by the results of the next general election, and there's not going to be any pendulum swinging back. Young folks are decidedly against the Republican Party, and the demographics have begun to overwhelm the White Supremacist regime that existed from the earliest years of the European arrival in the Americas. The party of Eisenhower is moribund. The Democratic Party establishment will also be weakened, and after moving the USA decidedly in a progressive direction, will eventually split, which is a good thing. One party dominance at any level of government breeds corruption, and we need opposing camps with differing views on the levels of taxation imposed on higher income residents, on trade (including tariffs), and on monetary policy.

Monetary policy is hugely important, and I'd like to eventually see appointments to the Federal Reserve Board be required to be approved by supermajorities in both houses of Congress.

Ranked choice elections might start to seem pretty appealing to conservatives if the alternative is progressive hegemony. Candidates wouldn't be able to appeal to the most extreme folks in a party primary, then immediately pivot to rebrand themselves as moderates for the general election.
