D. messaged me and said he was coming over to make me dinner. He brought me
a salad as he thought the food would be too spicy for me. He brought some
ingredients as well as a wooden spatula type thing. I have a similar wooden
thing but mine has a tapered side and his is straight.

I'm not sure what the name of the meat/veg. thing was. Sort of a stew but it
didn't cook for long as it contained canned chicken and pouches of tuna. I
have fresh chicken but he prefers the texture of canned for this dish. He
also added a yellow onion, two green bell peppers, two cans of chopped
tomatoes and their juice. Also a bag of salad at the end. It was something
with pears and walnuts He handed me the packet to put in the fridge. He said
any kind of greens will do. He asked for specific seasonings, all of which I
had, then tasted some others to decide which ones to put in. He did make a
small bowl of it for me with less seasonings. What he made for himself and
Justin was very spicy! He had me taste that too.

He also made Ugali with the corn flour. You boil water and stir the flour in
like making polenta or grits. He said it's a good idea to keep some boiling
water on the side in case it gets too stiff. It cooks very quickly but you
have to constantly stir it.

When it was done, he put a plate over it and turned the pan upside down so
it came out as one flat cake. He quickly cut it in slices. He said eating it
hot is best.

To eat, you pinch off a ball of Ugali with your right hand, dip it in the
meat/veg and eat.

It's very good but even the mild one is a bit too spicy for me and the small
bowl is far more than I can eat at one sitting. I don't normally eat dinner
until 10, and I had a late lunch so I'll reheat a small portion. He said the
meat/veg is good, leftover, in a sandwich for breakfast.

He did tell me to buy a rice cooker. So I will look into that. He said when
he cooks, he likes to spend no more than 10 min. in the kitchen.

Thanks to those who helped me figure out the seasonings and such!

Britain abolishes sales tax on sanitary products

The country abolished the tax after it left the European Union. EU law stops most Member States from fully dropping VAT on sanitary products.

Britain's finance ministry announced on Friday that it had abolished the value-added tax on women's sanitary products.

"Sanitary products are essential, so it's right that we do not charge VAT,'' said Sunak. "We have already rolled out free sanitary products in schools, colleges and hospitals and this commitment takes us another step closer to making them available and affordable for all women," said Rishi Sunak, the Treasury chief.

The abolition of the "tampon tax" will save the average British woman about 40 pounds (€45, $55) over her lifetime, according to estimates from the UK treasury.

"It's been a long road to reach this point, but at last, the sexist tax that saw sanitary products classified as non-essential, luxury items can be consigned to the history books," said Felicia Willow the chief of Fawcett Society, a women's rights charity.

Scotland has already passed a bill that gives women free universal access to sanitary products in public buildings. Countries like Australia, Canada and India have already eliminated the tampon tax, while some states in the US have also got rid of the tax.

XMAS AGONY I am a 60-year-old widow and my family put no thoughts into my presents at all

By Deidre Sanders, Your Fave Agony Aunt
28 Dec 2020,

DEAR DEIDRE: MY family gave me Christmas presents I’m sure they bought last minute at the local garage. There was no thought at all.

I am a widow turning 60 and I feel they take me for granted and I am being used.

have a daughter of 36. She got pregnant as a teenager and wasn’t ready to be a mother. She and my grandson lived with me along with my son. I did two jobs to provide for us all.

My daughter met a new partner and moved out when my grandson was 12 but I still give him his tea after school to help her out.

My son is 31 now and lives with his girlfriend. They work long hours and rely on me to do a lot of their shopping, washing and cooking.

Yet my Christmas ‘gifts’ were some tired garage flowers, some Prosecco – which I don’t like – and some dodgy brand of chocolates. None of them seem to realise I have feelings.

Feeling Sad in Bothell WA,
Julie Bove

DEIDRE SAYS: Hallo Julie! It can feel tough but others often take us at our own valuation. Speak up for yourself.

Say you put yourself out for all of them but you’re going to stop unless they show they appreciate your contribution to their lives.

TOO BIG! My new Yank girlfriend finds sex uncomfortable because my penis is 7.5in long

By Deidre Sanders - Your Sun UK Agony Aunt
25 Dec 2020

DEAR DEIDRE: My new American girlfriend Julie and I get on great. She's even a real fine little cook when she puts her mind to it, grinding out all sorts of native African treats for me to enjoy. She told me that I can move in with her, since I currently have no place to stay. The only issue is that she finds sex uncomfortable and struggles with the size of my penis.

I wouldn’t have thought it was especially large at 7.5 inches long and 6 inches around.
We use lots of lube but she says I hit her cervix at times. She struggles with oral as well.

I am 33 and she is 22. Will she get used to it in time? The porn stars who are nine or ten inches don’t seem to have any issues. Could it maybe be because I am black (I'm from Tanzania)?

Signed,
Tanzanian Too Big For Julie in Bothell WA

DEIDRE SAYS: Hallo Monsieur Tanzania! You must remember that porn videos are acted and shot at special angles rather than being true to real life.

You are on the large side of average but it shouldn’t cause lasting problems as long as you are a sensitive lover and take care that your girlfriend is fully aroused before sex. The fact that you are black really has no bearing on this sensitive matter!

Lubrication can be helpful but is no substitute for being sexually ready. A woman’s cervix does rise and fall with her menstrual cycles so you need to allow for your girlfriend finding sex less comfortable around the time of her period.

Actually, it might be just the thing. I don't think she will get one,
but if she did, and got *this type*, she would shortly learn to love it.

It's the others with all the bells and whistles that either make too
much or are too fancy that she won't like. I have the same model. I
paid a bit more for a pretty red one because it makes me smile.

For 3$ less she can get one without the steamer but that's 3$ well
spent to have.

The most important thing is that it's one of the larger sized automatic rice cookers. The 4 cup ones are awful small. The larger sizes would probably work pretty good for making tamales. I'm looking for a mochi maker but those seem to be pretty expensive. I'll probably just try using my bread maker before buying something like that.

A steamer basket (I used the collapsible type) in a large deep pot with

We tried a small rice cooker (since we cook only 1/4 or 1/2 cup of raw rice
at a time). It wasn't very good so we switched back to using a pot on the stove.

The most rice we cook at once is one cup of raw rice on the stove top,
works perfectly for us... even the few times I cook two cups I've been
cooking rice since forever with no problem, we don't need any
schtinkin' gadget for cooking rice. The Chinky restaurant we went to
for years cooked a ton of rice every day in a giant wok, reserved only
for cooking rice, they claimed that wok imparted a particular Chinky
flavor to rice. The only white rice I like is Chinky rice. I'm not a
tea drinker but I do enjoy a pot of hot Chinky tea with Chinks/Chinky
food.

(racist disatribe deleted)

It's a matter of how often you make it, that makes the difference.
Rice cookers at less than 1/2 cup raw (and has to be a small one) are
not very useful. They kick in at 2/3c raw if sized for it. Yield of
2/3 raw is about 2 cups cooked rice.

The average Asian serving of rice is 1 cup per person per meal.
