Written by The Rolling Stones, it was recorded by Eric Burden and the
Animals and came out during The Animals debut album. Burden also
recorded it with War.

Rap music is an oxymoron. I never liked heavy metal. There is some good
post 2000 music, like Cake. I get just about every new release by Van
Morrison and Mark Knopfler, but I guess that is just their continuation
of their older style and not the new music. There are a lot of
contemporary singers, mostly female, who I can't get into because their
voices warble so much. I think it is basically a variation of the better
soul music where they slide their notes up and down. It is a nice
technique once in a while, but I tend to think that it is sounds more
like they can't hit the not the first time and have to slide into it.

I am grateful for modern technology and music playing options. I rarely
listen to music on the radio, and having to listen to a lot of annoying
commercials is a main reason for that. I have a number of USB sticks
in the console of my care, one with rock, one with jazz, one blues and
one with comedy podcasts.

It doesn't really matter - most of these guitars are pretty much the same. I found out that I had a Strat type guitar in the closet. I had no idea that I had it. I'm going to rout it out and install a couple of low impedance, high output, Lace Alumitone pickups. My guess is that it's going to sound totally boss.

I like yer choices, I'm also partial to Boyd Raeburn, Harry James, Woody Herman...and Goodman, natch...

There are some neat Glenn Miller items, they are broadcasts made during WWII and were beamed to the Wehrmacht and Germans in general. Glenn announces the music in German, and there is also a female German - speaking "DJ"...they not only introduce the music, but they explain "American values" (US jazz was banned by the Nazis)...the program was called "The Wehrmacht Hour":

https://www.dennismspragg.com/2017/03/14/music-for-the-wehrmacht/

"THE OWI (Office of War Information) AIMS AT FRITZ”

“LONDON – The German Army, target of the “German Wehrmacht Hour” beamed out by ABSIE (American Broadcasting Station in Europe) is getting its first taste of OWI-supplied live popular music according to the New York office of the OWI’s Overseas Branch. Beginning last Wednesday (Nov. 1, 1944) ABSIE is offering German listeners a weekly half-hour of music by Maj. Glenn Miller, leader of the American Band of the Supreme Command.”

The headline from the November 6, 1944 issue of “Broadcasting” magazine described the ABSIE program Music For The Wehrmacht which was part of the one hour program. The other half hour was a German-language news broadcast. In addition to Glenn Miller, the musical programs broadcast by ABSIE from London to the German armed forces, the German people and the occupied peoples of Europe also included broadcasts by “Der Bingle” Bing Crosby, Dinah Shore, Marlene Dietrich, Morton Downey and even Spike Jones among other American artists. The scripts used by ABSIE for Americans not familiar with the German langauage were produced in “phoentic” style allowing celebrities including Glenn Miller to converse with a fluent German-language announcer..."

Miller also made the best Big Band film of all, 1942's "Orchestra Wives" (the original soundtrack was in STEREO!), also "Sun Valley Serenade" is good...

For vocals I adore Jo Stafford, and of course Sinatra...you know of course that Jo and Frank were originally with the Pied Pipers vocal group, which grew to fame with the Tommy Dorsey band in the early 40's...

Just got a DVD of the wartime musical "Ship Ahoy!", featuring TD and his band, and Jo and Frank with the Pipers...I think it's FS's first film role (a minor role, actually), he was just a skinny young kid! It's pretty routine, but the music is fine, and Eleanor Powell is FANTASTIC doing her tap - dancing...

Fred Astaire was a fine singer too...he did some great jazz sessions in the early 50's...

Old Time Radio wise, there are some very fine star - studded "Command Performance" broadcasts from WWII available, and you'd also like "Johnny Mercer's Music Shop", all are available for free download from various sources...

Back in the day musicians REALLY had to be TALENTED...unlike today...

There will always be talented musical artists. Most of them, you'll never hear or know about. As far as vocal groups goes, the Boswell Sisters were probably the tightest trio that there ever was, even to this day. They were doing jazz back when white girls didn't do that kind of stuff. These days, they are hardly remembered.

The Boswells were SUPERB...very big, IIRC they had a great radio show(s)...good catch...!!!

Mildred Bailey is another fine singer that is virtually forgotten...there are many others...

Time passes, any era's superstars will be "dust" within a few decades, when they are out of "living memory"...who remembers film stars like Claire Windsor or Thomas Ince or Kay Francis...they only live in dusty archives and now on the internet...

Sinatra was a "bigger than life" character to those of us of a certain age...when I talk to kids in their twenties, some have not heard of him. He's only been gone since 1998, but his "demographic" is aging, s-o-o-o-o...even Madonna is "off the radar", at least to a younger demographic...

Younger peeps have heard or know the Rolling Stones, they are still "extant" and touring since 1962, ___57___ years ago. When I was a kid c. 1970, that would have been like some pop culture thang from ___1913___ still being around...and Jane Fonda's still with us and active, too...also Rita Moreno, the only surviving cast member from 1952's "Singin' In The Rain"...!!!

*MGM studio head Louis Mayer was carrying on an affair with Ginny...concurrently Mayer had broken his leg playing polo. When someone informed then - new MGM star Frank Sinatra of this, Sinatra cracked, "He didn't break his leg riding a horse, he broke it riding Ginny Simms..." Mayer was furious, and almost fired FS...

It was Korean boy-band BTS's highly anticipated appearance on Saturday Night Live. It was kind of a big deal.

Naw, sucked. It was like a lot of the early 60's trying to sound like
'rock-n-roll' but very little rythym.
Ranks right up there with 'I am a Walrus'.

Rarely, but occasionally.

I discovered this:

I now understand why "oldies" love Lawrence Welk. They got tired of
"keeping up". I pre-date R&R, so am running outta steam. Pretty much
don't like hip-hop, current "Country", K=Pop, metal, etc.

I still like a hot rocking song, but hard to find 'em. I DO like Pink,
Gwen Stafani, and a buncha other music, but it's hard to keep up. ;)

You're a bit behind the times in musical trends. You or I don't get to dictate the trends in music. The kids do. Sorry. That's the breaks. Quit whining about this. When we were kids, we got to move the direction of pop music. Our time has passed. That's the breaks.

That reminds me of:
My all time favorite quote was from Bush Sr. long ago.
"I do not like broccoli," Bush once said to the press. "And I
haven’t liked it since I was a little kid and my mother made me
eat it. And I’m president of the United States, and I’m not going
to eat any more broccoli!"

LOL! That cracked me up and it still does. He was very serious
too. He banned it from Air Force One. haha

That said, broccoli is one of my favorite vegetables. I've 3
pounds of frozen broccoli crowns in my freezer as we speak. I add
some to most dinners. Also make 2 very different kind of broccoli
pizzas, the occasional broccoli-cheese soup, slightly cooked then
chilled broccoli and added to salads. Also broccoli tea is my
favorite tea and so easy to make.

Lately I've been drinking a cup a day of combo green tea and
broccoli. Try it. It's good tasting and it's good for you. :)

Here's how I discovered "broccoli tea" years ago -
I used to steam a pile of broccoli in a tiny saucepan.
Rather than use a steamer basket, I just loaded up the pan then
added about a cup of water. 2/3 of the broccoli was above the
water level and getting steamed but 1/3 WAS in the water and
getting boiled.

I knew that when boiling veggies, much of the nutrients leached
out into the water. So I figured drink the water too and get all
the vitamins. That's when I discovered just how tasty the water
was...hence...broccoli tea.

Try it plain. YOu'll be suprised how good it tastes. :) Tastes
better plain than any herbal or real tea and it is a healthy
drink.

I've always drank the cooking liquid of all veggies or used it in
soup, potato cooking water is excellent for soup or baking. I also
drink the water from canned veggies, my favorite is the liquid from
canned beets... I eat sliced beets directly from the can but first add
some s n p, a spoon of sugar, and a glug of vinegar... pickled beets.
The water from canned beans is good in soups/stews.

Trends come and go. Mostly they go. Older people tend to stick with the
familiar while young seem to be attracted to new things. Every once in a
while a band comes along with something new. If the develop a following
other people start imitating them. When I am in the car I usually listen
to music on USB sticks. I have about 150 various music albums on three
sticks. When I turn on the radio there does not seem to be as many pop
music stations as there used to be. The old pop stations are doing
oldies and classic rock.

I am an observer of trends because it allows me to make predictions about the future but mostly modern trend watching and trend influencing is important for marketing/business decisions. Being able to predict events and human behavior has always been important - or is it? In the end we're all dead. :)
