Am I the only person who thinks that a daytime absence of a nocturnal
animal says nothing about the presence/absence of that animal?

It's a curious thing. Every year about this time we get some mice
trying to move in and disrupt our neighbourhood. I have never seen a
live one in the house, but I see little collections of mouse shit once
in a while. Then I get out some traps and set them in strategic
locations. Last week I caught three. Another trap got sprung and there
was a lot of blood. I have not yet smelled the maimed rodent. There has
been no new mouse crap found.
