It was one of those fresh style containers that you need to eat within a
few days. Got it on Amazon Fresh for $7. Kind of a lot for soup, I'm
trying some cans next.

Manhattan chowder is just Campbell's tomato soup with a clam dipped in it.

It don't matter. Popeye only eats NY diks, ergo, manhattan soup is
best!

For canned, try Progresso. They are decent enough. Comes in New England
style and Manhattan style. Both are different but good. Inexpensive too
especially if you wait until they go on sale.

I had a can of each once and couldn't decide which one to make. I ended
up combining the two cans and ended up with pink clam chowder and it was
very tasty. The best of both varities.

Normally though, I'll make my own. It's a clear clam chowder - no cream
or tomatoes. It's a local favorite and my favorite too.

Local recipes available upon request.

for canned and many years ago i found out that i liked
the chunky new england style best, but it got too expensive.
progresso is tolerable. now though, i hardly ever have them.
too much salt and too expensive v.s. what we can make here
from scratch. i have the time so making things isn't the
issue.

haha! yeah, sounds like something Mom would do. i like
each apart better than combined.

well, why not? :) to me that sounds like it would
require good fresh clams which we won't get here.

Sounds almost Korean if you shredded it all enough in the frying pan (without the corn).

It's $1.59 a can, and right now they have an extra 20% off with Target Circle.

I have never tasted a Progresso soup that was better than merely tolerable.

Progresso New England Clam Chowder:
"Clam Broth, Potatoes, Clams, Soybean Oil, Water, Modified Food
Starch, Onions. Contains Less than 1% of: Soy Protein Concentrate,
Sugar, Salt, Cream, Butter, Sodium Phosphate, Potassium Chloride,
Artificial Color, DATEM, Lobster Powder, Natural Flavor, Shrimp, Crab
Powder, Parsley (Dried), Celery (Dried), Fish Powder, Tuna Extract,
Spice, Yeast Extract, Corn Protein (Hydrolyzed), Whey"

And the name sounds socialist to boot! Progressive soup, eew!

Live clams would be best.
You probably could get live ones these days with overnight shipping.
Just not from a grocery store.

Clams can stay alive out of water for up to a week if kept cool. Shipped
in ice is common. Keeps them alive but not frozen.
