That would cost about $8K just in materials alone. Plus the labor

I hate to tell you, but it has already happened here in Canada. They
changed the name to embers because there was whining about how brown
skinned girls claimed they didn't want to join or delayed joining
because the name caused them harm. No one had the balls to stand up and
tell them it wasn't all about them and that the name came from household
demons of folk lore. It was a pretty lame excuse for not joining an
organization they probably would not have joined anyway.

It wasn't household demons. The name Brownies comes from Scottish
"faery's", although that name would piss a few people off, too.

You're exactly right, Ed. It is *not* in the same spot in every
picture. It's not a smudge on the lens. When you turn the camera on it
automatically extends the lens beyond the reach of your fingers. You'd
have to go out of your way to touch the lens to smudge it and then it
would always be in the same place. It's the flash.

Obviously John needs some lesson in photography, but it may not be a
smudge on the lends. Lenses can have from one to four or more elements.
They move to adjust perspective and aperture changes to get the
desired depth of field. There are ways to do this manually for a
particular affect and you can usually get a decent average using the
built in sensors.

When a lens is not properly adjusted and focused, the light going from
one lens element to the next can refract of diffuse. thus the effects
you see. Easy to see focus is off. Lighting is terrible,

Putting an $800 camera in the hands on someone that knows nothing of how
to use it give the results you see. He would do better with a $20
Instamatic.

Many schools offer adult education classes in photography. I've taken a
couple and taught a part of one. Also had a darkroom. He really needs
some help.

That basics are the same for film or electronic. Lenses, lighting,
focus, composition remain the same. If you were familiar with optics
you would know other factors, not a smear on the lens may be an issue.

Film and black and white still have a place in the world of photography,
though a minor role these days.

There is an old adage that a good photographer will get good results
with a cheap camera and a hack will get poor results with the most

I took spent a lot of time in high school taking pictures and developing them. Modern photography is excellent stuff. I can take a photo, and edit and post it in seconds. My favorite camera back in the 70's was a small half-frame format camera. I could take 72 pictures from a 36 exposure roll of film. That was pretty awesome. These days, I can take a limitless number of pictures with my phone. Now that's simply amazing.

A cheap camera was the basis for a small movement for artistic photography. The plastic lens was not sharp and had a tendency for distortion. The plastic camera body could leak light internally. That was acceptable to the users. Oddly enough, this kind of photography appealed to the more serious photographers.

Unfortunately, in this PC era, career victims can take the lore about
brown beings doing domestic chores in homes in the British Isles
hundreds of years before they knew about Africans twist it to an
association with black slavery. Bear in mind that the people who passed
on this lore were mostly poor people who were much more likely to
descended from slaves than to ever even dream of being able to afford a
slave.

It's time that politicians dared to stand up to these nonsense
complaints and to point out that they are entirely without any basis.

And of course your mind also goes directly to violence. How about

Exactly right, Ed. People who know each other and are friendly with
each each other can and *do* have honest conversations about what is
going on in the world around us.

I agree. I work with a black guy, early 40's, and he was helping me
change a tire on my car one day. The thought popped into my mind when I
went into the trunk to grab the spare tire. I asked him, from his
opinion, if the faded confederate flag sticker on my back bumper
bothered him. He told me that he couldn't care less, but some guy in
the wrong neighborhood might think differently.

At the antique mall, we sell some black memorabilia, including old Aunt
Jemimah bottles and mammy type black porcelain figurines and salt/pep
shakers. I recall some day that someone was offended by this... A
white woman, no less. "Sweetheart, do you know who usually buys these?
Black people..." She didn't have much to say after that.

As a young kid, I knew Aunt Jemima.at least her image Our next door
lady had a cleaning lady, Beulah, that reminded me of Aunt Jemima. We
played with the kids next door and she would give us treats and look out
for us. At the end of the day, she took the bus home.

From my experience growing up, Aunt Jemima, Mrs. Butterworth and the
like was an image of a nice lady. Seems silly to take it away.

She only said it was the next day. If it had been a week, I'm
sure she would have said that. Something that I've noticed
is that sex with someone you are in a relationship with is far
more satisfying than with a person you are not emotionally
involved with.

As I'd stated, I had never before--or since--spent the night
with a stranger, and I hadn't had partner sex in months.
Now, here was this woman who seemed happy to let me
fuck her a bunch of times. I had no experience with that,
so I didn't realize that I might be damaging her, however
temporarily. I'm neither proud (what guy in his early 20s
*can't* fuck a bunch of times in one night?) or ashamed
(I really didn't have any idea that I was causing harm) of
that night.

I know that you'd like to slant it that I was claiming to be
some sort of Don Juan, but the truth is >99.9% of the
partner sex I've had was within the context of a pair
bond--GF #1, GF #2 or GF #3 (who I'm still happily
married to).
>

I'm pretty sure it was just alcohol, and remember, I'd
been drinking too, and I wasn't the instigator. I'm
curious, what would *you* have done in the above
circumstances? Here's your 21 year old Mike Duffy,
and there's a woman who is 19-20 years old,
acceptably attractive physically, who has told you
that she's on birth control, and has expressed a
strong attraction to you. You're obviously going to
have sex at least once, but she seems happy to do
it as many times as you want. What would *you*
have done? Say you hadn't gotten laid in months.
You wake up after an hour or two, and there she is.
Aren't you going to wake her up and see if she
wants to do it some more? If not, why not? If
you've already done it without a condom once, any
risk of anything has already happened, right?

What would *you* have done?

It could be that you are both mistaken. Another reason
to collect such memorabilia is to preserve it to show
subsequent generations the extent of past racism.
