And all my compost out front no longer STINKS! The RAIN is slowly washing the stinky nutrients into the soil! Yay!! Soon time to PLANT tomatoes, basil, peppers and FLOWERS for the bees!

We had a little snow yesterday. It watered the garlic and grass seed,
albeit slowly.

We haven't had more than 3 or 4 days in a row without rain ... in
fact , it's rained so steadily I'm a little concerned about my new
virgin queen bees being able to get out and get mated .

A properly composted pile doesn't stink, John. You just did it
wrong. I'll bet you just dumped things on the pile and never
turned it occasionally with soil mixed in so it rotted.

Google "composting" for your next pile.

ROFL!! I had a crazy housemate at Skinker DeBaliviere who didn't want WORMS in HIS Compost! ROFL!!

I just keep a 2gal bucket in the kitchen for all vegetable scraps, then empty it into a big plastic can outside with a lot of holes drilled in its sides, then when full enough dump it outside back by the Survivor Tree for next year's compost!

How do you think Mother Gaia composts? ;-)

He lives in St. Louis. 2-3 months ago it probably was snowing there.

Yesterday it was snowing here. I don't plant basil until almost the
end of May.

We have two composters, both the same, they don't stink when
composting directions are followed... composting should emit a sweet
aroma like that of a healthy forest floor. A lot depends on what one
is composting, some things don't compost well; corn husks/cobs will
take forever to compost and yield very little humous, banana peels and
melon rinds are best left for the deer to compost. Coffee grounds
compost well and don't stink... toss the filter paper in too, egg
shells compost well and add beneficial nutrients to vegetable gardens.
We have two of these, they last a very long time, ours are over 25
years old:
https://www.amazon.com/Algreen-Products-Saver-Classic-Compost/dp/B003959G9Y/ref=sr_1_5?ie=UTF8&qid=1407777669&sr=8-5&keywords=composters
The composters that hold scraps above ground, like those rotating
drums, don't compost, they ferment and stink. Keep in mind that earth
worms do not compost, it's the worm castings that are composted by
microbes.... adding worms makes a composter stink as the worms die
when they can't return to the ground.

We have had snow a few days this wee, including this morning. There was
not enough that it accumulated, except one morning when there was just
enough of strangely textured flakes that they turned the ground white.
It was like little peas of Styrofoam. It was snowing a little this
morning but it has turned into rain.

I did the same in CT. If you planted earlier it just sat, did not grown.
Here it just slowed down a couple of months but there was always
enough. Same with rosemary.

Everybody has different preferences. Surely you don't want us all to move

Mruce, you may legally sniff any polar bear's ass you encounter.

I encourage you to do that, especially if it is a female bear with
cubs.

Female bears with young cubs are especially receptive to whining
dutchmen, and usually give them a real big hug.

Take John Kunte with you, as he could experience great epiphanies
with the bears.

yes I would agree, but pesto made for basil that you grew is pretty
freakin good!!
I did however have an unfortunate food emergency. When I went to make
my pesto I did not realize that I am all out of the organic soy pasta.
So I had to put in an order to amazon and I am waiting for a fresh
case of the pasta to arrive so I can make my pesto.
