Red velvet anything: ook.

I don't live in NJ, but I'd have thought that anyone from a state and
city which:

1. Has the Sandusky family and the Paterno kids;

2. Has no worthwhile dining except for Morimoto, Vetri, and Tastykake;

3. Couldn't even make a decent steak and cheese without provolone cheese
imported by good, hard-working NJ mobsters;

4. Forces its citizens to buy all hard liquor from the limited selection
of _state-run_ stores;

5. Concerning the excitement of its tourism offerings, is known as the
"Nebraska of the East";

6. Has been spending most of its disposable income at the Jersey shore
for centuries,

would still be lying low with their mouths shut. 8;)

I saw a commercial for IHOP the other day and they have red velvet
pancakes too.

I know. Shore towns with bars attract that kind of crowd.

That was a recent problem.

Any corner pizzeria can make a damn good cheesesteak. Philadelphia and its
suburbs has innumerable fine restaurants.

Most cheesesteaks are topped with American or Wiz. It is what it is.
Provolone is tasty but does not melt well.

>4. Forces its citizens to buy all hard liquor from the limited selection

Wine also. There are premium state stores that have an excellent selection
(and will order anything for you). PA knows that it's competing with NJ and
DE so they do have competitive prices now.

>5. Concerning the excitement of its tourism offerings, is known as the
"Nebraska of the East";

I've never heard that. We call the interior of the state "Pennsyltucky".
There's Philly, Pittsburgh, and a whole lot of nothing in the middle.
Agriculture is still the states biggest industry so we do benefit from fresh
local produce, meat, and dairy products.

During the last 200 or so years, wealthy Philadelphia residents built summer
estates north and west of the city (Germantown, Mount Airy, Chestnut Hill,
etc) which are now part of the city itself or are immediate suburbs.
The Jersey shore has been a vacation spot for a little more than a hundred
years, since 1870 or so.

Snookie's parents are Italian, so she feels like she is Italian, too.
One of my friends was adopted, born on St. Patrick's Day, so she thinks
she is Irish. No kidding.

My favorite response when someone tells me they are "Italian" is "so
when did you immigrate here?"

[snip out of sympathy for NJ]

But they have a good view of the NYC skyline.

As we say here, "I spent a year in Jersey one day."

And they have this song:

I was raucous in Secaucus on a Saturday night,
Because of you.
I was broken in Hoboken on a Saturday night,
That's your fault too.

[Well, I tried to stand up for them.]

We have a significant Italian population around here. It is interesting
to watch them during the world cup of soccer . They are all driving
around with Italian flags mounted on their cars. Every time Italy wins a
game or advances in the playoffs they are honking their horns and
screaming out the car windows as they drive by. Then when Italy drops
out of the series the flags come off and they never heard of soccer.

And what do you tell people on St. Pat's? I'd suggest you stay out of the
bars for your own safety.

Just sayin'.
