I'm sure everyone will be happy to know I do apparently have a job. Only
seasonal, but something. Not sure how many hours I will get, but
"processing" today was fairly painless. People were all very friendly... I
get a shirt, pants, and jacket... Guess what colour? 4-5 hour orientation
Monday morning, and it's paid!

Great and congratulations! This job will help your mental state too.
A friend from high school started a long career with UPS as a seasonal
employee. Like any other job, it will be what you make it.

Others are saying this person is a troll and a pest. He's probably
going to be standing on the sidewalk in a Santa suit, ringing a bell.

That's a different story, but being away from the house for any amount
of time will help because you're not home obsessing on how much you
dislike it. If you own your home, you can sound proof it someday.
That's what people do when they live on busy streets or near freeways
and it really makes a difference when you're inside. Have you ever
been inside an "airport hotel" and watched a huge jetliner go past
your window, but you can't hear it? It's like watching television
with the sound off.

I didn't know UPS had a policy of hiring the mentally ill. Seems risky.
The idea of a headcase like you delivering to people's homes makes one
wonder whether UPS needs to review their hiring practices, or more likely
perhaps you're just lying again.

And since when did UPS hire broken down 50 year old nutjobs who have never
done any physical work? One way or the other, this won't end well.

I'm guessing you will soon announce, in another pathetic grab for sympathy,
that you were hired only to be fired on your first day. None of which will
be true, of course.

I think that bed bug problem is being a bit over blown. I spent 6
weeks on the road, sleeping in a different place almost every night
and didn't run across them at all. Didn't even think about them.

We had a case of bedbug and boy are they creepy. It's amazing how
they've come back again. They are straight out a Dickinson tale. They've
hit this town in the tropics bad.

I wrapped my mattresses with plastic and just starved the crazy bugs. It
took about 2 months to kill them off. The simplest way to kill the ones
you can see is to fill a spray bottle with rubbing alcohol and spray the
blighters. The just curl up and die. It's a beautiful thing.

I tried to get rid of a mattress at the Goodwill. They wouldn't take
it..... might have bed bugs. It was a few years old but almost unused.
My mother had bought it for their spare bedroom. After my father died
and my mother sold the house we got it and used it in my son's room. He
had moved out of the house and was only here maybe 10 nights a year.
Then when my mother died we put her old queen size bed in there and
moved the twin up to the den, and no one slept on it for 6 years.

We had strapped it on the roof rack of my car and took it all the way to
the Goodwill store where some grubby guy rejected it because it might
have bedbugs. From the look of him, that might be a problem in his
house. He didn't even bother to examine it. But.... he said that they
would take the headboard and bed frame. I told him that would mean
having to untie all the straps and taking the mattress off to get at
that stuff, then having to load the mattress back on and strap it down
to take it to the dump. I wasn't interested in going to all that work.
Taking it all to the dump meant only having to do it once.

Charities are getting picky! My mom had two cannister type vacuum
cleaners. I tried to donate them to the Salvation Army. One is an
Electrolux which has always been a very good, reliable brand. The other
was an Oreck. Both work, both had attachments, extra bags, the works.
(It's not like I left the old dirt-filled bags in them.) The guy on the
Salvation Army truck took one look and said, "Can't take those, they're
too old." Hey, if you're shopping at the Salvation Army and find a
working vacuum cleaner for $10, what's the problem? I don't think the
guys doing the pickups should be making that call.

But when it comes to mattresses, it's probably a policy not to take
mattresses. I understand your POV, but even when I was very young and
broke I don't think I'd have bought a used mattress.

Well the EPA seems to disagree: "Experts believe the recent increase in
bed bugs in the United States may be due to more travel, lack of
knowledge about preventing infestations, increased resistance of bed
bugs to pesticides, and ineffective pest control practices."

I've found it seems to come and goes in spells these past 12 years or
so. We got et up proper in Osaka about 2003. The only time in our
lives. For seven years or so it seems endless stories come out of New
York and Paris. One story featured a *movie theatre* in mid-town NYC
that was closed while doing battle.

We worry each year before internat'l travel. Then as soon as we sleep
through first night we forget the whole thing.

My general idea is that it only gets to pandemic levels in
tourist-crazy cities like London, Paris, NYC, Rome. And likely gets
"moving" in Autumn as they shlep them back and forth and all around
over the summer.

While snooping about on http://www.epa.gov/bedbugs/ I find plenty of
info, including the clear indication that they have been on the rise.

I vehemently disagree with this post!

Always check the bed when you are in a hotel lifting the mattress up to look
for blood spots, etc. Unlike roaches, bb's are not because of filth or
cleanliness... For months, no one would come over to my house. Carries a
real stigma... Damn things are so small though not easy to see-- till too
late.

Never put a suitcase on a bed in a hotel. Put them in the bathroom, and
leave them there.

You never know, but my ex's oldest gf had them at her house. (He told us
after the fact.) Pretty sure it was from him. But like smoking, hard to
exactly say where the cancer specifically came from. You can get them at
movie theatres these days! (They like dark places.) The more I read, the
more I was creeped out.

Once had roaches at a low rent apartment in Denver, but beg bugs are worse.
Well both are bad, but bed bugs even more insidious.

That guy was not too bright or informed. They are just as likely to be in
the nooks and crannies of the bed frame as the mattress. After they feed,
they go crawl into a small spaces-- and they can fit into very small
spaces... Terminex had us pull out all our furniture from the walls, and
even remove electric outlet covers, and pull down picture frames.

Vegas is supposed to be notoriously bad, with all the international
travelers and hotels; some countries they are rampant and just accepted as
a part of life and come along on peoples baggage. Last time I was at the
airport, I saw some people put their suitcases in heavy plastic bags...
Apparently, bed bugs were just part of living for humans for many years,
until the middle of the last century. Military bunks apparently were often
infested.

"don't let the bed bugs bite" takes on a whole new meaning if you ever have
them.

TMI... I did a lot of reading when we had them. And made it even harder to
get to sleep at night... Eventually, you get exhausted and sleep for a few
hours though. Then wake up checking your body and sheets.

The first few times they sprayed the guy actually said we should sleep in
the bed and areas we know had some. Then the bed bugs would cross the
poison he sprayed trying to get to us. The poison did not work on them
right away though. Took few days or so. So we were the "bait" for them.
Did not sleep very well knowing that! Wife was even more freaked than me...
But nothing you can do. Takes long time to get rid of them. Then you
never know if you might get a random one from a movie theater or such and it
would start all over!

Nightmare!

That was what we were told too. Some things just had to throw away. Had to
throw away a nice mattress I loved; and bought a cheapo one from JC Penney
outlet... It was summer so we bagged lot of things and put them in the car

"That is what Australian's call the giant golden arches conglomerate

Three ingredients (salt doesn't count) that I have. I guess they just
go into the blender, correct? Simmered, or no?

OK, I just made some, but it really seems like it's asking for acid
(Dude, you got any more of that killer blotter?) So I'm thinking, a
little lime juice? Some whole milk yogurt?

I used yogurt and lemon, as per wife's preference. She loved it. I
thought it was good, I do think I used too much oil, and the jalapenos
were not hot enough.

I noticed you have a habit of claiming you don't know what's going on or
why.

How would you respond to a sick wanker who is deliberately trying to ruin
the group with a constant flood of nameshifted garbage? I don't feel sorry
for the miserable POS at all when people retaliate. He richly deserves it.
But feel free to protect whoever you want.

Just sayin'.

I notice you proffer your observations as accusations.

I ask questions of people to find out what they're thinking; not
because I don't have guesses about what they're thinking. And sometimes
I ask them questions so they can have a mini-satori about what a
malevolent person they are.

If they aren't amusing, I kill file them. What do you do? (That
quesion is not a claim that I don't have assumptions: I assume you
bitch and whine about how you don't like them. But maybe you reach out
to them through prayer, I can't be sure until you tell me.)

I'm not protecting anything, but thanks for your permission.

Now here's where my claims of not know what's going on (since I don't
follow this *particular* soap opera.): The guy got a job at UPS, how
the fuck is that Jihad-ready?

Richard, FYI, after working for UPS and FedEx I can tell you that the
"runners" at Xmas time are often kept on permanently. Your driver will
be asked how you did. Be sure to kick butt and don't bitch. I went
from seasonal to senior station manager at FedEx. Great money, benefits
etc.......MR

Change the lemon to lime. I never (well, rarely) do it, but every
time my son uses lime instead of lemon I tell myself I'm going to
change my wicked ways.... of course I never (hardly ever) do. That's
why I like it so much when he cooks Mexican. It's nice to eat other
people's cooking, especially when it's someone you love who made the
meal.

I'm not given to superstition or assumption, and you don't understand that
the dynamics of a hyper-agressive flooding troll are not simply made to
vanish by putting the perp in a killfile. I thought you had enough NG
experience to know that, but perhaps I'm wrong.

Yeah, right.

Generally it's a good idea to take some time to learn what is going on in a
NG before jumping into ongoing matters. In other words, if you had done
that, you wouldn't be asking me that question. And if you did do that and
still don't get it, no need wasting my time explaining something beyond your
depth.

They are observations that you consider accurate. I've met a lot of
people in life that were "mind readers" and knew what other people were
thinking. They claimed they were accurate, but I found they had worse
odds than flipping a coin.

I see you are claiming that you aren't given to assumptions...

I have way more experience than you might assume, and know that
ignoring noise-makers, as well as the people who who need to give them
attention through more noise are both nuisances.

It seems that answering the question would have been easier than all
that convoluted thinking.

I can no longer follow your analysis but conclude it's engrained in
some vendetta the details of which are irrelevant to me. But I will do
my best to keep out of your slap-fights from now on. In this particular
case it was "Jammy Toe" that I was responding to. So if you are also
policing on behalf of too many others it might be more difficult.

But I'll try.

Anecdotal and irrelevant, as well as demonstrably accurate, and should you
disagree... well, pfft.

Pee Wee Herman style response noted.

Yet you clearly don't understand the obvious in this case. Again, if you
don't agree, pfft.

If you consider that simple stuff to be convoluted thinking, I'm more
certain I was right that this discussion is just beyond your depth.

At least you just admitted you don't know what you're talking about, proving
me correct.

That's real nice of you. Go lay down if it gets too stressful.

And we haven't heard from him either since he started that new job Friday.
They must have worn him out running constantly from truck to door on Friday
and maybe Saturday too. heheh

I hope you did good with your new job, Richard/Somebody/Tom. As someone
else here mentioned, be nice to everyone and give it your all and this
seasonal job might turn into a very nice full time job with all the good
benefits they offer. And if they ask you if you will some overtime for the
holiday season, don't turn it down. They are all judging their seasonal
employees now. The top ones will get offered permanent jobs. Good luck with
it. :)
