Oh, but this is easy ;)) Get a DVD from the library (at practically no
cost - a.k.a. free!) and do everything at home!!! Best part, there's no
extra company or crowd! The best seats are already there ;)

Sky, who'd rather save the cost and stay at home

P.S. Extra benefit, no exposure to potential unfluenza bugs

Hell, I don't know what's sold at movies. Raisinets?

Hard to say. I know we usually only go to the movies
to see things that have a lot of special effects. Otherwise,
we stay home and rent the DVD. Based on the thrust
of the survey, I'd probably have to say SFF, too.

I don't eat at the movies either. I can go a couple hours without eating
or drinking, and I don't like those movie snacks enough to pay those
outrageous prices.

You have good taste in chocolate. <g> Lindt is my personal favorite too.
We often sneak snacks into the movie as concession prices are assinine.

:-)

I most often wait for it to come out on DVD, but it really depends on
the movie. I've not been to the theatre now for a good 8 years or so.
Too easy to emulate it at home for a lot better price!

And I can use _real_ butter on my popcorn. <g>

Tough questions. I can't remember the last time I went to the movies. We
took the grandkids to see Aladdin some years ago. Before that, maybe took
the kids to some movie. Maybe went twice in the past 30 years or so.

For me, 2.5 yrs ago, to see The Bourne Ultimatum. Fact: hand held
cinematography is tolerable for tv, but it sucks on the big screen.
Damn near got seasick. Before that, the LOTR trilogy, so maybe 4
times in last 15 yrs. Movies are currently SO BAD, I don't even
bother renting, anymore.

Otherwise, popcorn w/ diet coke.

It is expensive these days, and there are usually a lot of hassles. I
can rent a DVD for less than admission for one at the theatre. I can
skip through the trailers. I don't have to wait in line for tickets,
wait through paid advertising. I don't have to listen to people talking
through the movies, asking dumb questions and making idiotic comments.
I have a decent LCD flat screen TV and stereo system. It is not the big
screen, but the price and privacy, being able to stop to go to the
washroom and much cheaper snacks, if necessary, make it a good deal for me.

I don't much enjoy the movie theatre experience. We go out to see live
theatre a lot more than we go to movies.

Plus, the audio is played so loudly you need earplugs.

The last current-release major-studio movie I saw in a theatre was
the remake of "The Quiet American". Since then I have seen
a couple revivals and film-festival thingies.

But I'm a fair Netflix addict, with MI-5 usually at the top
of the queue.

I don't remember exactly how long it's been since I last went to a
movie, but the last time it was Sophie's Choice when it first came
out. I despise what they call a movie house nowadays, one of those
twelve flicks at a time multiplex thingies, each small, all hard
c-ment, like sitting in a mauseleum, uncomfortable smelly seats with
upholstery never been cleaned. They couldn't pay me to go to a movie,
what with some rugrat kicking the back of my seat and folks who never
STFU. I used to enjoy a movie when it was in a real theater, with a
stage, real plush drapes, a balcony, double features, cartoons,
newsreels, shorts/serials, an entire enjoyable night out for only
pocket change. Then I used to really enjoy the drive-ins (however
reminds me of the most awful invention in all of history, the panty
girdle - hee hee). Now, like I said, they couldn't pay me to go to a
movie... there's plenty to watch on cable. And I don't care for many
of the new movies, most times I find myself watching movies from more
than 50 years ago, John Wayne still rocks.

I go to the matinee shows, usually there are only 4-6 other people
in the theater and I hardly notice they're there. And you get a
break on the price of the tickets. It's all good.

"Synopsis by Mark Deming

This dramatic recounting of the disastrous maiden voyage of H.M.S. Titanic
was produced in Germany during WWII and features an undertow of anti-British
propaganda absent from other versions of the story. The building of the
luxurious ocean liner Titantic proves to be a hugely expensive proposition,
and Sir Bruce Ismay (Ernst Fritz Furbringer), president of White Star Lines,
wants to make sure that the ship's first crossing is big news. It is at his
urging that Capt. Edward J. Smith (Otto Wernicke) pushes for a record speed
in their voyage to New York, sowing the seeds for later disaster. This
Titanic features a number of rich, decadent British passengers and a handful
noble German peasants. While the film was produced with the participation of

depressing than inspiring, and it was pulled from theaters shortly after its
initial release, though it has since appeared on television and on home

You're not missing much.

There's quite a few so-called blockbusters that I have never watched.
Among them:

Jaws (why doesn't everyone just stay out of the friggin' water until
they kill the dumb shark? DUH!)
The Godfather (too LONG!)
ET (looks dumb)
Close Encounters of the Third Kind (I was around in the 70's and
remember the overkill on that theme song blecch)

And many more that I'm sure I'm forgetting about right now. As for
the OP, I like butter and salt on my popcorn, don't eat sweets, and
drink Diet Coke!

Fresca, but they don't have it at our theater. Root beer is great but

Agreed, but it has to be *good* science fiction. It has to engage me
before the crappy science comes in. (I watch "Bones" on TV now
because I got to know the characters and I like the interplay between
them, even though the science is pretty crappy.) Or it has to have
*good* science, stuff that is believable. The latter is pretty hard
to do, takes a lot of knowledge on the part of the writer.

OT: Back when I was a kid and there was a movie theater w/balcony in
a nearby town, other kids bragged about a nasty trick involving a box
of popcorn and a drink. Go to the balcony railing, drink half the

I suggest renting a copy of "Gattaca". It's proof that a very good
science fiction story made into a movie needs little or no special
effects to work.

(laugh!) It's pretty bad. And the popcorn is often cold and stale.
And they sell it in crumply bags so you can hear people fishing

popcorn made the list of disgusting American foods.

That smell is one reason I stopped going to the movies for a long

Bachelor Party? You gotta be kidding. Tom Hanks has done a ton of great
